Poseidon's Traditional English Fish & Chips - Gluten-Free Fish and Chips!

From the moment I heard about Poseidon's Traditional English Fish & Chips, I knew I had to try it,…read moreI was super excited, despite embarassing myself at my own pronounciation of their name. They opened around two years ago, and the majority of their menu is gluten-free, they seem to really care about a product which is healthy and inclusive (gluten-free food being healthier, and more inclusive for those with allergies), the only food items on the menu which aren't gluten-free are the pies and puddings, which is still such a small part of the menu. The location is good within Bolton town centre, it is close enough to the town centre, you could easily get a bus one or two stops, or walk, but it isn't so close you'll get stuck in an insane amount of traffic with no parking, infact there's street parking right outside and a free car-park just meters away. The menu and gluten-free selection was impressive, it included your traditional fish and chips as well as jacket/new potatoes, fish cakes, sausages, scraps, scampi and pretty much anything you'd find in a regular chippy, so that was great. It is slightly more expensive to order on Uber Eats, I ended up paying around £2 more, I do feel they could be more clearer on labeling what is and isn't gluten-free on third-party sites, some items were marked gluten-free, and some weren't, I didn't realise this place was entierley gluten-free until asking when picking up my order. My food was pretty good, the fish was great, the batter was crispy, it was presented well in an easy to eat box, and the fish was great quality too, I would have liked a touch more salt on my chips and a slightly thicker cury sauce, but I was pleased with my food overall, the jumbo chippy sausage was also very good. They do only have limited opening hours, they're open between Wednesday and Saturday, and only open for "lunch" on Friday's, meaning if you do want to eat here you will most likely need to visit in the late afternoon / early evening. I would have liked to see a seating area, but there wasn't much room for this, but the inside was clean anyway and the location is good for eating in your car, if you're OK with that. 4*

Ordered the Haddock Fish with an order of chips and mushy peas. Fish was great! Chips were decent, not the best, but the fish was definitely the star of the show, cooked to perfection in a light, not overly oil-saturated batter. The kind lady behind the counter let me try a dollop of their gravy (it was wonderful)! Such a gem with good quality food in a no frills package! Great for a quick lunch or dinner as you're walking about and exploring the area. Would definitely come back!

I instead order a battered sausage and some chips. the ambiance was terrible with a thick clammy smell as if there was no airflow for years. Alright food but wouldn't consider going back until they figure out their problems and get their priorities straight and hire new faster less judging eyeing staff who clearly did not like my appearance and hope they figure out what the smell is and that they remove it immediately. really a shame about those because the food was great and five stars just wasn't worth the wait and the smell.

It's very confusing to review restaurants, pubs, coffee shops, and other businesses as an American…read morevisiting for a bit. I did visit the Strawberry Duck with a local. When he told me about the name of the pub (several times), I was enchanted. I had the fish and chips and much were very fish and chips. I am also a long time vegetarian trying to eat some fish. Failing miserably. The draft beer selections were the same as every other pub in London that I had tried. Found out in my next to last evening in England that Heineken controls the draft scene. I was searching for local, traditional British beer. Only one place in Oxford! I'll keep trying!! Delightful and charming brewpub or pub (again, American). Very homey feel to the restaurant/pub. The service was something. Fine but I enjoyed my experience thoroughly!

After walking for 8.5 miles we ended up back here where we had booked a table for dinner…read more Walking in we were led to a table right in front which was in a middle of a 3 way much to our dismay as people kept constantly walking past us. What I did see of the decor was nice. The majority of the waitresses were young and what I felt inexperienced . Asking us immediately what we wanted to drink without providing a menu and us having to enquire what the soup and pie of the day was. Drinks ordered I browsed the menu. It was just a lot of generic pub grub with not a lot of fish dishes. Saying that I did see some fish and chips get served that looked fab. I did find the menu a bit uninspiring but luckily I clocked the special board and saw the Strawberry Duck with bubble and squeak with garlic mash. Himself had the minted lamb pie and we shared chipolatas with mustard mayo. The starter was nice but forgettable...the mains were the star of the show. My duck was cooked to perfection and everything tasted fresh. The sauce was of perfect consistency and not too sweet. The mash could have done with more garlic but it was a fine dish especially while sipping yummy gooseberry gin. The minted lamb pie was rich and full of flavour with thick chips that were a little undercooked in the middle. To finish we had coffee as we were full. Overall I felt the service let it down a little, Asking if we want sauce when the starter was served with it, not asking how are food was in the beginning , not informing us about the specials etc and in the end we had to order Drinks at the bar as felt a bit neglected. It was nice to have a swift recommendation of what to have with the gin though and the bill was reasonable . Yes I would come back if I went for a walk in the area.

From the moment I stepped foot into the shop, I was greeted with warm smiles and a delightful aroma of freshly fried fish and chips. The menu at Tib Street Chippy offered a wide variety of options, catering to both traditional and modern tastes. I opted for their classic fish and chips, and I was blown away by the quality and flavour. The fish was perfectly cooked, crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. The chips were golden and had that ideal combination of fluffy interior and crispy exterior. It was truly a match made in culinary heaven.
