We hired A-1 carpet cleaning and repair two clean our basement carpet after our cat peed in the basement. John came and cleaned the carpet and found mold. He told us he could do mold remediation by cutting out the dry wall, replace the carpet pad and replace the molding. John then required more money to do the work. We gave him the money (we had used him to clean carpets before and he seemed decent enough) and he did the work but did not finish - he left the new drywall unsanded and unpainted. He broke one large piece of furniture as he uninstalled it to get behind to replace the drywall that had mold. He did a horrendous job on the molding. We contacted John to have him come back and finish the job. He gave us excuses after excuse as to why he couldn't come back and how busy he was. At this point we just want our money back for the work we will have to pay someone else to do. read more

I thought John was a good person and have used his company a number of times over the past 20 years for carpet cleaning and power washing. I have always paid him and been flexible and accommodating. Now he has four of my rugs in his warehouse and won't return any of my calls or texts. I was actually concerned for his health and well-being until I read other reviews on Yelp. UPDATE- After not returning calls for over three months, John recently delivered our rugs. I suspect the negative review prompted him to finally get a hold of us and deliver our rugs. I do not relish negative reviews, but I don't like having my rugs held hostage for 3 months. I will try and set the record straight and you, the consumer can make up your mind. That is what Yelp is for: 1) John took rugs and not return them for many months. 2) He sent his wife to personally collect for the work, so he was basically paid in advance. 3) The positive reviews pretty much are him and his wife- which is fine for a local business. John Lloyd is a complete deadbeat. Do NOT ever use or trust him. Had a very bad experience with him and am so disappointed in this man who I totally trusted. Had mildew issue on 8/1/19 and called him to come clean my furniture and he was here on 8/2/19 to take care of. He was so helpful (had used him many time before). I unfornunately paid him upfront for new carpet. It took quite a few months getting quotes for the restoration work to be done. When finally finished in Feb. called to let him know carpet could be installed after I paid him another 500 plus to clean my ducts.. Scheduled me twice for installation and was a no show both times and would not return calls. Filed a civil suit and today constable called and said he does not live at address listed as his address. Had brand new truck when came to clean ducts and telling me about the Jeep he bought his 16 year old daughter. Guess I helped pay for both. A very shady individual. DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH HIM. This is the absolute worst company I have ever dealt with. Terrible communication. Changed price on both jobs. And they were both terrible quality. I was out of the area when they did the work so I did not see the completed work of the first one when John Lloyd did the second one. I had also prepaid him $2000 to refinish hardwood floors at a third house which I cancelled. He refuses to return the money. I now know he is not a registered contractor in PA. I can't speak to his ability to clean carpets but he can't do vinyl floors. That's for sure. And he refuses to refund my deposit for work he never did. Lawsuits are already filed. I will NEVER use this cleaner again. SHADY + Overcharged me 3 times. This cleaner was recommended by the apartment manager where I live. They came out late without any contact to me and just sort of showed up well off of schedule, then once they actually cleaned my carpets they never offered me an invoice but instead ran my card to charge everything after the fact. When they did there were extra charges and the amount being charged was quite a bit more than my quote he gave me face to face. I called to have this changed and they said it was a mistake and that he would have it fixed because his girlfriend runs the financials. I was then "accidentally" charged AGAIN. I called back and they offered to leave the additional money at my apartment manager's office which was A- never done and B- the manager said they couldn't even do that legally. So I call back and now they have not returned my calls, their answering machine box is FULL and my bank is investigating the charges which have now almost DOUBLED the initial quote. I recently had A1 do my area rugs. Not only did they leave the rugs so damp that they took 2 days to dry I also paid more than I was quoted over the phone. When I attempted to speak with one of the workers I couldn't even understand what he said. I thought that he was on something. Very disappointed. read more

Horrible is an understatement!! Was referred to John Lloyd A1 Carpet Cleaners to do mold removal and drylock on my basement walls. After a few days mold was gone and he told me the drylock job was complete. I very rarely saw Mr. Lloyd at the job, it always seemed to be his friend doing the work. That would have been fine if I didn't find out, after the fact, that his worker was just a friend who was helping out and knew nothing about putting drylock on basement walls. My contractor came to my home to continue the work he had started and I was told the drylock was in no way complete. I had another mold remediation company come out and had to pay them over $1200 to complete the job that A1 said was complete. Mr. Lloyd would not return phone calls from myself or my contractor and only after threatening to go to the Attorney General did he respond. His response was that he did nothing wrong and was extremely rude to both my contractor and myself. Mr. Lloyd was EXTREMELY unprofessional, left trash all over inside and outside my home. Since he had been referred by a friend (who I don't blame at all) I didn't feel I'd be taken advantage of, which was a wrong assumption on my part. Lesson learned, referred by a friend or not, in the future final payment will never be made to a contractor of any sort until the job is completed to my satisfaction. DO NOT hire him for mold removal/remediation. He might say he can do the job but it will be done half way and he'll charge you a fortune!! read more

I had hoped to be writing a strong, supportive review for John and A-1. He carpeted an apartment and stairs in my building and steam cleaned appliances. His team generally did a nice job, however at the end he owed me money for part of a full upfront payment on a related job that we decided not to complete. I have given John every opportunity to repay me and tried to be as cooperative and lenient as possible over the past 4+ months. However he has been extremely unprofessional, does not respond to attempts at communication (e.g., rarely returned phone calls or texts for weeks/months on end), and after finally agreeing that he was at fault and committing to pay, never followed through. This despite my paying him either full upfront for his services or at least 50% up front and the remainder immediately following completion per his requests. For this reason I would, unfortunately, strongly recommend against using his service. Should this note trigger a resolution to this issue I will post an update. read more
