I inquired about work for one of my older vehicle and asked about where it would be parked since the owner stated it would take a few days for work to be completed Concerned that it was just outside parking with no gates surrounding the property, I decided to ask and he commented by saying: "Well, your car is insured right?" This is just not something you want to hear when you are thinking of leaving a priceless vehicle that's been in your Family forever. I just said "Thank you for your time" and vowed to never return. I recently found out that the person who referred my friend to Woodlake Auto Repair was a LONG-TIME CUSTOMER of Woodlake Auto Repair, and had actually told the owner, who knows him well, that he would be paying for the repair. This is important because the shop was overcharging a LONG-TIME CUSTOMER and not just some random person who was a new customer!!! Please know that I have restored cars, am extremely knowledgeable, and have done many brake jobs on my own cars. The owner was very evasive. I asked to see the rear brakes, and I noticed that all four wheels were still on the car. I asked if the wheels had been removed before, and he said no. I asked how then did he know it needed rear brakes? He responded that his mechanic told him it did!!! He became very belligerent and ordered me off the property. As a result of my experience there, and since the shop had NOT given my friend a required-by-law written estimate, I suggested that my friend remove his car from the shop, which he did. An inspection of the brakes revealed that the rear brakes were in excellent condition and did not need any repair!!! They flat out lied about what the car needed to be repaired! -Called Stuart on Thursday, Feb. 16 asking if they were open on President's Day and let him know my airbag light has been on for the past few weeks. Said yes, bring in the car at 8:15am. -Dropped car off at 8:15am, told the mechanic same situation, took my name and phone number and told me they would call me later to let me know what they find. -Didn't receive call, so I called them at 4:45pm. Stuart was out sick but said he would call me right back, which he did. -Said the light is a 'normal function of my car'. I asked him to for more details, he said I can pick up the car and they would explain. -I pick up my car at 5pm. Otto proceeds to tell me the airbag light in normal, as if my child or what not would sit in the front and it's normal (and no, I know my car, the light he was explaining in the middle of my console is NOT a normal light that remains on at all times-but I do not correct him). -I show him the BLINKING RED LIGHT that demonstrates my passenger airbag is not working properly when I start the car. Otto proceeds to then get out the car code reader. I'm standing outside in a t-shirt, sun is going down. It's cold. I wait 15 minutes for him to tell me he did find the code that shows my passenger airbag is not properly connected, but alas, cannot find any codes. -Tells me there was a 'miscommunication' with first mechanic. Wants me to bring in my car again. I will not return. read more

Stuart is the owner and he is one of the best! I normally do my repairs but when things are a bit tough I Trust Stuart to get it done right! He is not the cheapest. That's because he uses Really good parts and gets it done on the first repair. He is a man of his word and has great craftsmanship. Which is very hard to find. If you're looking for a man to do the job right with good parts this is your guy. If you want the job done the cheapest way with the cheapest parts which will break down later down the road go to Pep Boys or some other bad place. read more

Located in what used to be Chevron gas station before the double-wall-underground-barrel law took effect, is this diamond in the rough. Stewart is a very personable owner, who doesn't gouge, upsell, oversell, or pressure sell unnecessary services or parts. Communications is always professional and courteous. The repairs are done on-time and for better than market price. They could use some fancier paperwork (like their estimate sheets look like they are copies of copies of copies) but it's the service / repair that matters. read more

My original mechanic retired and referred me to a different mechanic went there for several years and they just weren't doing the job I expected. The fallout was my car was slowly starting to deteriorate engine wise. I took it to Stewart as a recommendation from a friend. My 2005 Nissan Xterra wouldn't start, so I called AAA and had them tow it to A-Z Auto because it was very close to my home, and based on the (few) positive reviews here on Yelp. I had passed by the place many times before, but never been there, so I was a bit anxious. When the Tow driver heard where he was towing my truck to, he nodded in approval and said "Good choice". That was reassuring. I've got my car back now and thanks to Stewart and his guys, it's running great. He noticed that my truck was due for an oil change and checkup, so he took care of it while it was in for the original issue. He gave me a fair price and the turn-around was great. I had been going to another mechanic prior to coming here. All I kept getting was one problem after another after they worked on my car. I decided to give A-Z a try and WOW, what a surprise! I brought my car in because I had a check engine light that had come on and then went off on a regular basis. Stewart, the owner, asked me to leave the car and told me there is a diagnosis charge but if they did the work the charge would be applied towards final bill. Stewart called and said he couldn't find the reason for the check engine light so I told him to keep it a bit longer. After a few days he still couldn't find a problem. He called me and told me of his findings. He didn't try to give me any BS or sell me on any un-necessary repairs. He asked for only 1/2 the diagnosis charge and told me to come back if the light comes back on. About a week later the light came back on but stayed on this time so I brought it right over to Stewart. He put a diagnosing machine on to read the code and it turned out to be 2 of the cylinders were misfiring and he'd have to look further into it to get the exact cause of the issue. I left it and the next day he called and told me exactly what needed to be done. When I picked up my car he told me he did a few extra things but he wasn't charging me for the work. He described exactly what Otto, the mechanic who worked on my car, did and showed me the old parts which caused the issue. He also said that I should see an increase in gas mileage. I couldn't believe how good my car was running after I got it back. The best it's ever run since I bought it. Idles great, much better mileage and runs smooth. I've had other issues with my car and brought it back and each time Stewart took care of me. I would highly recommend going to A-Z for all your service needs. I recently was visiting the LA area to attend a funeral and started to have trouble with my transmission. I was a long way from home as I live in the Bay Area. My engine was revving up, and I didn't think I was going to make it to the family reception, much less all the way home. I drove past A-Z Auto Technicians and stopped in. They hooked up a diagnostic machine to my engine to get a reading, drove my car, gave me great advice, called a transmission specialist for me, and even gave my travel companions a ride to the funeral reception while I waited with my car. I had a used 2002 BMW ragtop Z3 and no mechanic knew how to work on it until I took it to Stewart's A-Z Auto Techs. But that's not all! As the car began to fall apart, and A-Z mechanics couldn't find replacements, they fixed a hanging door hinge and made the driver's side door handle solid. They made sure I had tires that weren't bald. They tuned the engine to make it rev like a race car. They always were gentlemen and never took advantage of this customer, who is a single woman. They never gouged me on prices. Fair and honest, that's what A-Z techs are. When someone rear-ended and wrecked the car in 2016, Stewart gave me even more good advice on whether to try and fix it, or get a settlement check to replace it. I got paid $1,000 more than when I first bought it back in the day. Stewart even said he'd volunteer to be my "man" to show the adjuster that he couldn't take advantage of me. I had an unplanned encounter with the owner of this shop today. I was told that my review was cold and that he felt that he had really gone the extra mile trying to fix my car. so I thought I would review my review, maybe out of frustration, I had written something out of line. so what would warrant a bad review? a dissatified customer . My car, after several trips back to the shop, one of them involving a tow truck . I agree that there was much effort to fix my car . but I repeat, almost $800.00 dollars later my car is undrivable. i was forced to buy another car to get back and forth to work which was an expence I did not need. If the car was fixed or something done to make this right, this review would be much different. And again, I used to really like going to this shop, My car is old and querky would like to surprise me from time to time, They would always fit me me in somehow and get me back on the road. But to spend this kind of money and not get my car fixed is frustrating. a refund, even partial refund being offered to a loyal customer would have taken the sting out of this situation.
