1: Contacted AW Electric as they had the best reviews. Reviews do matter.
Outlined work to be done and need a estimate.
2: A scheduled date was given for two days out. Arrived on time: Mike and Josh.
3: Explained to Mike what the situation was:
Flicking lights in all areas of the house. Not only flicking, but sometimes went brighter or even off completely.
I already had Georgia Power Technician to come out earlier that day to see if problem was with incoming electrical power. Technician put a voltage meter on the outside meter which showed voltage reading of 125 Volts on each phase. Per Technician, incoming voltage was within specifications of +/- five volts on each phase. I know voltage increases or decreases depending upon demand in the area. There was no surge or drop off noted.
Technician mentioned that since house is over fifty years old, problem can be circuit breakers may be going bad. Also noticed that there was no main cutoff circuit breaker in house power panel box. ( Who were the original electricians on this house and builder?- don't know for sure!)
4: Mike fixed a broken wall switch in one of the bedrooms. We discussed other issues-
He took pictures of the main electrical panel, and wrote down what the required electrical work needed.
Upgrade 100 amp panel to 200 amp
Install need outside Emergency Power off circuit breaker.
Add generator transfer circuit box
Add GFI receptacles as required by code in kitchen and bathrooms.
Install new Smoke/Fire alarm detectors as required by new electrical code in all bedrooms.
Check condition of electrical wiring done by previous electrical contractor's
Add new ceiling box for future ceiling fixture.
5: Estimate arrived about three or four days later.
Let's be frank- nothing is cheap these days.
The estimate was about what I expected and well, more, as I added additional work after the first meeting with Mike.
I agreed to the estimate.
6: Scheduled was texted over for the work to start on the 29th of April. Coordination with Georgia Power was required for them to disconnect power on the scheduled date.
7: On the 29th, a A&W company box truck pulled up at the appointed time! Mike and Josh were ready to do their work.
8: I had already prepared for power to Refrigerator and other appliances as needed using standby generator.
9: Mike and Josh did what they had to do in a most efficient manner. Cleaned up work areas afterwards, checked all new circuit breakers and labeled power panel (which originally was never done when house was built) and put in panel box the correct way, which again was done incorrectly by the original electrical contractor. Columbia County Inspector did show up and passed work with no issues. Georgia Power arrived back on site to reconnect power, and power was restored.
10: Mike and Josh were customer oriented, and worked very well together. Each had a specific work area and they both assisted each other when required.
