When I signed up with them I was told they have no problem working with moms primary doctor, etc. However, they did not work with her doctor. When there was a question they couldn't/wouldn't answer or a concern they couldn't/wouldn't address with me I would have to go to my mother's primary for the answer/info. They were never "comfortable or compliant" with her primary doc's findings/advice. Especially when it came to meds. Also, when my mom had a stroke while we were in the park, of course my knee-jerk reaction is to call 911. I did, long story short they abandoned me in my time of need. No returned ph calls fr anyone. The following Mon I was called by their social worker telling me I did an unforgiveable no-no by taking my mom to ER & they dropped me just like that. NO ONE EVER TOLD ME THAT! I was told they would work with her outside providers! Their motto is "Compassionate guardians of comfort and dignity"...They were none of this to my mother & me!

How ever, I wanted to Thank each of you for what you did, I know it's your job but I also know its more than that, just what little time I had to play nurse/caregiver, I seen there is absolutely no way to do your job and not have heart and connection, no way! It's a hard job mentally and physically and definitely emotionally, you've got to be one extremely strong human being to do what you all do, and still go home to your families and home life and sleep. So Thank You all for being there and helping me with my mother. Im sorry it has taken me 6 months to Thank You all, it's been a rough 6 months, no one or nothing really prepares you for the loss of your mother, I've never really been the type for much emotion but this last few months I've turned into a cry baby and have no idea how to deal with these so called emotions haha. There is one person I do remember her name, and I wanted to make sure I gave her the biggest Thank You, she was the last nurse that came in to help me with my mother, and even after getting my mother turned and in a more comfortably position, gave her medicine, rubbed my mothers head and stood there by my mothers side with me as my mother struggled to breath, and after telling her it was okay to go if she needed to go, she didn't have to stay, she insisted on staying with me, and as I told Ms. Tammy King once more, if she needed to go it was okay she could go, My mother took her last breath. I just want to Thank Tammy so very much from the bottom of my heart Thank You for staying with me and Thank You for helping me afterwards with what to do and who to call to come get my mother as I was completely lost and had no idea. Thank You so much you have no idea what you being there meant to me. Thank You all ALL OF YOU for helping my mother stay as comfortable as she could, thank you for coming in to help me, thank you for showing me, and teaching me what I needed to know. Thank YOU. My mother was not completely there mentally but I know she would have loved you guys. Ok one more time Thank You all for everything you do. P.s. From November 2024 to Jan. 2025 I was taking notes on all my mom's hospital stays and things that went on. good and bad. and before my mom got to sick I had told her I was going to write a book about her and the infection, She told me "Do It. Finish It and Make The Big Bucks" well i'm not real sure about the BIG BUCKS but in March of this year I finish my book and I published it for the world to read. "you have never really LIVED until you have done something for someone who can never repay you" ----Mother Theresa My family and I are forever grateful to the great souls at this hospice house. Many thanks to the staff and the great folks that donate to the hospice house. Although, we haven't lost our loved one as of yet, one week at the hospice house and we feel so supported. Going through these tough days are easier by visits from priests (at least 3 times a week), food prepared daily, attentive staff, and all the comforts of home. I can not say thank you enough!!! My loved one feels better about transitioning knowing that prayer comes from 90 year old priests and deacons that have traveled as missionaries throughout the world (with more than 65-70 years of serving under their belt). I think my loved one is in good hands!

This is a hospice residence on the campus of Catholic Charities on North Harvard. Towards the end…read moreof my moms life journey this place stepped up and made her last days as good as possible given her state. The property is only about 3 yrs old but looks brand new on the inside and outside. I believe they can house up to twelve guests although while my mom was there there were only 2, including my mom. The staff was nothing but kind and focused on treating their guests respectfully. It is NOT a medical facility, there aren't IV's everywhere and noisy equipment. The rooms are comfortable with TV's and Amazon Alexa to provide music. Normally (outside of this covid stupidity) there is access to a nice outside garden area, a chapel, and an inside social area.Hospice nurses check regularly on the guests to make sure they are as comfortable as possible.The staff not only check on the guests regularly but also check on the guests of the guest. In my moms case it seemed at first her meds weren't making her comfortable. The staff here noticed exactly the same thing so when the hospice nurses came by they worked with them to insure my mom was medicated adequately. I can't say enough about the staff. Hospice work HAS to be one of the hardest jobs on a persons physical AND mental well being. I know that I would be wholly inadequate to do this work and I really appreciate the folks that make it their calling. If you have to bring a loved one to this place I can say that they will be cared for and respected. Go to their website portacaeli.org and give them any support you can, this is a worthy ministry.

However, her condition began deteriorating very quickly. We called on a Friday and then several times a day until someone finally came out on Tuesday. By then, my mother was unconscious. We were given many different excuses why no one could come out. I specifically asked for the director to call me but I was never called. Very unprofessional and I would never recommend this company.

She treated my mother like she was her mother, and that's the first and only time I've ever seen that quantity and quality of love from anyone outside of an immediate family member - under any circumstance.
