My mother lived here for about 14 months before passing away 2 months ago. Moving in and out was/has been a nightmare. When we moved into, we gave them 5 weeks to get her room ready after we signed the contract and paid, and absolutely nothing was done in that time. Getting her in to see the nursing director for intake was ridiculous. We ended up putting her into a different room than we originally signed for - two weeks after she was supposed to move in. And we were charged for rent for the whole time. In addition, the previous maintenance director was stealing from residents for years before they fired him, and he was only caught because a resident set up a camera and caught him. Nursing directors have come and gone, and no one seems to want to take responsibility for prescriptions. There were many occasions where my mother was without her daily meds because they hadn't been reordered. My mother passed away on March 25th unexpectedly and now the business office is trying to charge us for food and rent for the entire month after she passed. It took multiple calls to even get the business director to look into the ledger to find their mistake. 2 months later and we are still fighting late fees, wrong move out (death) dates, and all I get for an answer is "that is what corporate told me". When I ask to talk to corporate, I am not given a number and am told this company just bought several new facilities and she is not answering the phone while traveling. I am still waiting for a response and resolution. If we had to do it over again, we would choose a completely different group of facilities. Dealing with this mess of a company while grieving the loss of my mom has been exhausting and painful. There were a few positives: The activities director is wonderful and some of the nursing staff really go above and beyond. Other residents were wonderful and sweet as well.

My life at home is hectic and i was unable to enroll in benefits because of this. Everyone gossips about each other when they're not around, including management and there is no team effort - just a toxic, free-for-all atmosphere. We never have the equipment or ingredients to to our jobs properly and nothing is ever done to resolve that. There is a lot of noticeable favoritism within the company and you will receive contradicting information and orders from various levels of management. There is a reason for high turnover rates here and it isn't because employees are lazy. I wouldn't let these people watch my dogs.

My dad is a vascular dementia patient and multiple times they increased the price, promising higher level of care when in fact the care got worse. The call notifications of my dad's falls went from being an FYI to them complaining " he doesn't help us" referring to attempting to help dad up from falls. They didn't bother to clean his room, it took us being there and asking for them to lift a finger. They let my dad walk out of the facility to test drive a truck with a Ford salesman and they believed my dad (dementia patient) when he lied saying the salesman was me ( his son), even though they've seen my face many times. Then while dad was in rehab from a toe amputation, prairie house took the opportunity to say they could no longer care for his needs leaving us with 2.5 weeks to scramble and find his new home and move out his belongings to avoid unnecessary payments around the corner since a new month was coming. Front desk is incompetent, you ask her to put in a request and she waits for you to leave then goes back to drawing pictures, she literally draws at her desk all day. Nurses aides hideout and play on phones then act annoyed that you exist when you politely ask for help. Run away from this place.

My mother was forced to pay $1000 for bedbug treatment; the bedbugs came back (another $1000 treatment), which is understandable since the housekeepers use the same vacuum cleaner going from apartment to apartment, and bedbugs live in the walls & carpet. The general manager insists on blaming my mother for the infestation. It's illogical. This is the only bedbug issue she's had in her entire 94 years. My mother spoke of other people on her floor having bedbug problems too. There is a tiny clause hidden in the leasing agreement (which is 45 pages long) releasing CCWH from responsibility for bedbugs. How convenient...Reminds me of a Slum Lord. Because of this, my mother moved out as quickly as possible due to bedbug bites. All her furnishings/personal items were left due to the high probability of the infestation traveling to a new locale. All of her personal items, including treasured family photos & heirlooms had to be left for trash. When mom left, CCWH was given short notice, less than the required 60 days because she was getting bit by the bedbugs. CCWH has now turned this over to a collection agency. They are seeking $16,000 which is more than 4 times the monthly rate! We requested arbitration 2 months ago as required by CCWH lease. The request was ignored by CCWH. On a side-note, mom paid $900 (CCWH price) to get her balcony screened in. She was then not allowed to use the screened in balcony as it was considered unsafe. CCWH locked the balcony door from the inside of her apartment so she couldn't even open the door for fresh air. The weekend mom moved into the apartment, the lady above mom overran her bathroom sink because couldn't turn the water off. The water came through the ceiling and ruined all the Sheetrock in mom's bathroom. It took 10 days to fix the problem; mom couldn't use her own bathroom in the apartment! Mom is now forced to hire an attorney to handle this issue. Look elsewhere.

I am desperately trying to get another family member to move in here. The staff is amazing as are the activities and day trips. They remodeled the common areas within the last two years and it looks amazing. I really can't exaggerate on the staff, especially Amy (in sales). I would recommend this if you're looking for independent senior living for a loved one. (Fairly reasonable, too!) (The only issues I hear about is that the food is sometimes too institutional.)
