Many thanks to the staff and the great folks that donate to the hospice house. Although, we haven't lost our loved one as of yet, one week at the hospice house and we feel so supported. Going through these tough days are easier by visits from priests (at least 3 times a week), food prepared daily, attentive staff, and all the comforts of home. I can not say thank you enough!!! My loved one feels better about transitioning knowing that prayer comes from 90 year old priests and deacons that have traveled as missionaries throughout the world (with more than 65-70 years of serving under their belt). I think my loved one is in good hands!

This is a hospice residence on the campus of Catholic Charities on North Harvard. Towards the end…read moreof my moms life journey this place stepped up and made her last days as good as possible given her state. The property is only about 3 yrs old but looks brand new on the inside and outside. I believe they can house up to twelve guests although while my mom was there there were only 2, including my mom. The staff was nothing but kind and focused on treating their guests respectfully. It is NOT a medical facility, there aren't IV's everywhere and noisy equipment. The rooms are comfortable with TV's and Amazon Alexa to provide music. Normally (outside of this covid stupidity) there is access to a nice outside garden area, a chapel, and an inside social area.Hospice nurses check regularly on the guests to make sure they are as comfortable as possible.The staff not only check on the guests regularly but also check on the guests of the guest. In my moms case it seemed at first her meds weren't making her comfortable. The staff here noticed exactly the same thing so when the hospice nurses came by they worked with them to insure my mom was medicated adequately. I can't say enough about the staff. Hospice work HAS to be one of the hardest jobs on a persons physical AND mental well being. I know that I would be wholly inadequate to do this work and I really appreciate the folks that make it their calling. If you have to bring a loved one to this place I can say that they will be cared for and respected. Go to their website portacaeli.org and give them any support you can, this is a worthy ministry.

When I signed up with them I was told they have no problem working with moms primary doctor, etc. However, they did not work with her doctor. When there was a question they couldn't/wouldn't answer or a concern they couldn't/wouldn't address with me I would have to go to my mother's primary for the answer/info. They were never "comfortable or compliant" with her primary doc's findings/advice. Especially when it came to meds. Also, when my mom had a stroke while we were in the park, of course my knee-jerk reaction is to call 911. I did, long story short they abandoned me in my time of need. No returned ph calls fr anyone. The following Mon I was called by their social worker telling me I did an unforgiveable no-no by taking my mom to ER & they dropped me just like that. NO ONE EVER TOLD ME THAT! I was told they would work with her outside providers! Their motto is "Compassionate guardians of comfort and dignity"...They were none of this to my mother & me!

We had the worst experience with this Compassus Hospice company. My mother was sent home with…read moreHospice because of her serious illness, not an impending death. However, her condition began deteriorating very quickly. We called on a Friday and then several times a day until someone finally came out on Tuesday. By then, my mother was unconscious. We were given many different excuses why no one could come out. I specifically asked for the director to call me but I was never called. Very unprofessional and I would never recommend this company.

Our mom was in a facility contracted with CURA hospice; so although you should have freedom of…read morechoice they can tie up valuable time getting into contract with your preferred provider. Our mom was released from the hospital into their care with explicit instructions for pain control which were not followed. Resulting in 12 hours of our mom screaming in pain until they finally got their act together. A preciously limited day we can never get back -mom passed 3 days later.

They've cause unimaginable stress for my family. It's no surprise Prairie House got sued for…read morewrongful death (public record). They are all lazy and incompetent. My dad is a vascular dementia patient and multiple times they increased the price, promising higher level of care when in fact the care got worse. The call notifications of my dad's falls went from being an FYI to them complaining " he doesn't help us" referring to attempting to help dad up from falls. They didn't bother to clean his room, it took us being there and asking for them to lift a finger. They let my dad walk out of the facility to test drive a truck with a Ford salesman and they believed my dad (dementia patient) when he lied saying the salesman was me ( his son), even though they've seen my face many times. Then while dad was in rehab from a toe amputation, prairie house took the opportunity to say they could no longer care for his needs leaving us with 2.5 weeks to scramble and find his new home and move out his belongings to avoid unnecessary payments around the corner since a new month was coming. Front desk is incompetent, you ask her to put in a request and she waits for you to leave then goes back to drawing pictures, she literally draws at her desk all day. Nurses aides hideout and play on phones then act annoyed that you exist when you politely ask for help. Run away from this place.

I feel this is just about an economical choice and not really caring for your loved ones. I do not recommend this business at all. There's a very good movie about this sort of thing it's called I care a lot.
