I like the Treasure Shoppe. Although it carries some of the expected things, they're so reasonably priced I felt like I was stealing them when I got the total at the register. There's a little bit of everything here and it's all mixed together so I had no choice but to take time looking at everything. Treasure Shoppe has quite a few handmade goods from locals: jewelry, soaps, and miscellaneous decorative items. I wish I knew how people came up with these simple, yet creative ideas. When I saw the handmade knit shawls (and hats), I nearly bought everything they had -- the price was so incredibly low, there's no way the person who knit those is making a profit. They weren't made of the lightweight yarn using large knitting needles either, it was the heavyweight yarn, made with smaller needles that create a garment meant for warmth, not frills. The ladies that work here are incredibly friendly, chatty, and sweet -- everything you'd expect. Except for the guilty feeling I had for walking out with some cute things for a bargain price, I had fun exploring and look forward to doing so again.

Well, normally a Roses department store is located in a lower income neighborhood within a run down building - providing some of the basic necessities for a family. This location was a complete surprise! They had a very large furniture selection with pieces from Ashley's furniture, rugs, and more. It puts you in mind of Ollie's (if you are familiar with them). The store is huge and very well maintained. Shelves well stocked, floors clean, items located with ease for the customer to find. We are not from the area and never heard of this store before, so we went inside to check it out. When you walk in there is a good sized vestibule with a counter to your right. We were greeted warmly by a lovely woman with striking red hair who was helping a customer at the counter. I quickly realized that the gentleman she was helping was trying to sell her a small refrigerator, We continued straight through another set of double doors into the store portion where items are being sold. It's actually a really cool concept. For people not from the area, think "Once upon a child" where you sell your baby stuff and other people can buy it without paying department store prices. You get paid, the store gets paid and people in need save money. All the employees we spoke to were really friendly and helpful. You can tell a lot about a business by the people it hires and how well they work together and with customers. We were able to get the things we needed at a good price. A new cord, still in the packaging that works great and a few other items I saw while inside. By the time we left, the front room was crowded with people waiting to sell things. This seems like a popular store in the area and you can feel good about shopping somewhere that really helps the community.
