Monterey Pet Care

My husband Steve and I have been clients of Monterey Pet Care since January 2012. It is an…read moreexcellent company with quality staff - reliable, trustworthy, and accommodating. Initially, we arranged for daily walks for our two labrador retrievers when I was working full-time and my husband was recovering from hip surgery. But due to our busy lives and the excellent experience we had in the beginning, we have continued with a regular daily walk for our dogs since then. We trust them, and they really ease our load! We are concerned "parents". We center our lives around the dogs, because not only are they wonderful and loving family dogs, they are active, energetic dogs who need a lot of exercise. And because we have had dogs of all ages since January 2012 - young adult dogs, elderly dogs, and puppies - one dog with knee problems, and even one who had chemotherapy, we can attest that the walkers are good with all ages and conditions. We feel fortunate to have found Monterey Pet Care with its very dependable, friendly, and professional walkers. They arrive on time and treat our dogs and everyone they meet with respect. If owners have preferences, they will do their best to follow them - for us, this means they lock the doors when they leave even if we are home. Sincerely, Jeanie K.

My last sitter, Andrea, was just lovely -- on time, spent time with my dogs, and made them happy. (My neighbors and my cameras confirm this!). Thank you to Dan and to Andrea for making this work.

My English bulldog loves coming here. Second time he's stayed the night and zero complaints…read more Watching all the dogs going in super happy and excited to be there is a real comfort. Mine is still a puppy and has marked his territory both times he's stayed, but they kindly washed his blanket/toys I left with him before I picked him up. They offer walks/cuddles/baths/etc at an additional price, they have a full menu at the check in desk. Staff is always kind, welcoming, friendly and always willing to answer any questions. Thanks for taking great care of my pup!

I used Dawg Gone It for years, and looking back, I really wish I had trusted my gut sooner. My dogs…read morewould often come home acting strangely after staying there, but I never had any concrete reason to believe something was wrong, so I continued using them. One thing that always bothered me was the complete lack of cameras. For a premium-priced boarding facility, I believe pet parents should be able to check in on their dogs throughout their stay. Being able to actually see how your dogs are doing shouldn't feel like a luxury when you're paying a premium for their care. Then something happened that completely changed my perspective. I was out walking my dogs, Ollie and Evie, when a woman unexpectedly called out, "Hi Ollie! Hi Evie!" I stopped and asked how she knew them. She told me she had previously worked at Dawg Gone It. Naturally, I started asking her about her experience there and whether the dogs were well cared for. Her response genuinely shocked me. She told me, in no uncertain terms, "Never take your dogs there." I was honestly stunned. I can't speak firsthand to everything that may or may not happen inside the facility, and I'm not going to make accusations I can't personally substantiate. But hearing that from someone who had actually worked there, combined with my dogs' behavior after previous stays and the lack of transparency from not having cameras, was enough for me. I will never board my dogs there again. More than anything, I'm disappointed in myself for not questioning things sooner. Ollie and Evie are my babies, and knowing what I know now, I wish I had made a different choice for them years ago. If you're considering boarding your dogs here, I would strongly encourage you to do your own research and ask a lot of questions before leaving your pets there.

Excellent Dog Care…read more The review is long overdue but wanted to share for others who want to find someone who truly looks after your own furchild. In my case there were two furkids that needed varying care. Why I would return to Freya +'s: + Responsive. I needed day care services and even evening services while I had to attend an all day conference and participate in an evening event for a few days. Freya answered my calls and texts before the care, during the care, and after the care. + Timely. Always showed up on time when I had to rush off to an event + Caring. I judge how my two dogs react when she returned the following day. Dogs do not lie and they were happy to see her return. + Helpful. Often I had to rush in and out of my lodge while I had to attend an event and Freya made sure she could help me exit as smoothly as possible and minimize my dogs' separation anxiety + Senior care experience. I see that Freya was able to care for my senior dog who had more issues than the younger sibling. + Great feedback. She shared photos of my girls to just show me how they were doing that day while I had to leave them under her care. Overall I would not hesitate to have Freya take care of my senior dog and my other more lively furkid.

I carried her in, although on the phone they asked if I needed a gurney, which I didn't, but has kindly offered. The second they saw me and my pup, everyone stopped what they were doing to help. They could clearly see between my face, and her, that this was serious. Although our sweetie passed, they did everything they could, and kept me in the loop the entire time. The physician gave us great peace by telling us what had occurred, there was nothing we could have done, and even if we'd gotten her there earlier they probability to survival was low. In an extraordinarily difficult time they give my wife and I peace knowing we'd done what we could and it wasn't our fault. I had a mentor tell me, "why and what if are what keep you up at night." They did everything they could to shut down those difficult thoughts. While this is a sad outcome, I can't think every person who helped me and our pup last night do what they could. I'll never forget how you helped me through one of the most difficult processes of my life and thank you from the bottom of my heart.

I brought my French Bulldog to this emergency veterinary hospital on August 23, 2026, around 4 PM…read morebecause the entire left side of his face was severely swollen. We specifically told multiple staff members, including the doctor, that we suspected the swelling could be related to an ear infection. My dog was taken to the back, and despite being there for approximately six hours, I was never allowed to see him during the visit. We were told that they needed to discuss payment before examining him. We ultimately paid $243 for the initial "exam," $357.25 for blood work, plus medication fees, for a total of $761.21. After getting home, I checked his ear myself and noticed a significant amount of wax. I called the hospital to confirm whether his ears had been examined. Emily put me on hold to ask and then told me that they had not checked his ears. When I asked why, considering we had specifically raised the possibility of an ear infection and his face was swollen extremely close to his ear, I was told that they do not check ears unless there is a specific reason to. I find that extremely concerning. We specifically gave them a possible explanation for his symptoms, and his swelling was located directly next to his ear. I expected that to at least warrant an ear examination, especially after paying hundreds of dollars for an exam. I then asked to speak with the doctor or a manager. I was told there was only a shift lead. When I asked to speak with the shift lead, I was told she was busy and that the doctor was in the middle of a "procedure." I simply asked for the shift lead's name, and Emily told me I did not need to be given that information and then hung up on me. I understand that emergency veterinary care can be expensive, and I am willing to pay for appropriate care for my dog. What I cannot accept is paying $761.21 and later learning that something as basic as checking his ears was not done--even though we specifically raised an ear infection as a possible cause of his facial swelling. The lack of communication, compassion, transparency, and professionalism throughout this experience was extremely disappointing. I brought my dog here because I trusted this facility to properly evaluate him when he was clearly unwell. Instead, I left feeling like my concerns were dismissed and that the focus was more on payment than making sure my dog received a thorough examination. If you are considering bringing your pet here in an emergency, I strongly recommend asking exactly what will be examined and what is included in the "exam" before agreeing to treatment or charges. My experience left me deeply disappointed and concerned about the level of care my dog received. I don't need a generic response with " we apologize for your experience ,please feel free to contact us" what you need to do is train Emily for some customer service and the other lady who rolled her eyes when I was speaking to them during my visit.
