A PLUS POWER EQUIPMENT Dad didn't look at their reviews, they have a 2.4. Could be less now with my review. Where do I start. Took the lawn mower in because it wouldn't start after replacing the air filter and spark plug. They told us that they'd probably have to clean out the carburetor. Called after looking at it and told us they'd need to replace the air filter, spark plug, blade, oil change and rebuild the carburetor and they'd pressure wash it so it'd be all clean (looks like they just took a compressor and blew the dried grass off). Provided a quote. Had to remind them that we literally just replaced the air filter and spark plug. Took about $8 off the bill. Got it home and it didn't work! Took it back and they tried to say we put water laden 2 stroke gas in it. Then called back to say it was ready but it was going to cost an additional $25. They clearly do not stand behind their work. Went to pick it up after having a conversation with them. Told them we wanted to see it start before taking possession, they couldn't get it to start. Long story short, they tried taking advantage of a senior citizen. Will never do business here again and I recommend you don't either. read more

I used A Plus in 5 Corners for a dozen years to repair and service my yard tools and they were great. I WILL NEVER GO BACK! Not sure if the guy with the gray beard that ran the place retired or what but there is a punk named Donavon running it now and he is a complete JERK. They had my mower for 5 weeks and kept telling me a few days. I called to voice my displeasure and he told me to shut up and he did not want to hear it and did not care if I was mad. I went down the next day to pick it up and go somewhere else and it was amazingly done. But the cost had gone from $150 to $290. Even though I paid it when I got pissed he again told me shut up and get out of his shop. When I got home and inspected it there is now rust all over the deck and there was none when I took it in. They must have let it sit in the rain for a month. read more

My push lawn mower would start then stall right away and since it hasn't been serviced in a while, I figured it would be a good idea to take it in for a check up. A Plus told me it would be $15.00 to check it out but would take two weeks with the backlog they had. After two weeks, I get a call saying it would be $166.00 to fix my mower, so I declined, reason being I paid just a little more then that for the mower brand new a few years ago. I went to pick up my mower and the $15.00 fee turned into $35.00. Strike 1. I take my mower home and start researching the issue online and consulting my mowers service/users manual. One suggestion was to check the carburetor fuel bowl screw holes (there are 2) for blockage. Sure enough they were plugged, so I took a safety pin to clear the two small holes, reinstalled the fuel bowl screw and tried to start my mower. Bam! Fired right up. Today I called the owner of A Plus (Gerald) and explained the situation and asked what did they actually do to diagnose my mower issue and why would it cost $166.00 to get it going. I could have purchased a brand new mower (same make and model, just newer) for maybe $50 more then his repair estimate. When I pointed this out to Gerald, he started arguing with me. Strike 2. I was being nice, calm and collected in my call and discussion. As I told Gerald what I did to get my mower working he started saying he "doesn't do shotty work and needs to warranty things" and if I want shotty work, he can recommend someone to me. Strike 3. His website claims they are "an honest company and take pride" in what they do. If being honest and taking pride is this sort of service, I suggest you avoid this company or at least proceed with caution. read more

I can't recommend. customer service far below reasonable expectations. They never, ever return a call left to voicemail. Sold me a $600 Redmax backpack blower with no air cleaner in it 2 years ago. Now carb is full of dirt and won't run properly. Astounding they would sell a NEW UNIT without one. Factory of course denies warranty claim and says they would never ship a new unit without an air cleaner. read more

What a bunch of monkeys - reminds me why I usually fix things myself. I tried to have them fix my lawn mower - it cost me $115, took them 7 weeks and the repair lasted for 4 starts of the mower - barely. With the help of sears and google I fixed it myself in 1 afternoon for less than$20 (I'm not a mechanic). Took a Lawnboy mower in for a tune-up, oil change and because it took tremendous effort to pull the start cord. They told me that the engine was completely out of oil, and had seized, and the engine was completely shot, hence the difficulty in pulling the cord. They offered to place a Honda engine on the mower, and the charge would be about $320.00. I picked up the mower, paid the diagnostic fee of $35.00 plus tax, as their offer of a replacement engine was silly. I could buy a very nice used mower for less. I shopped for a mower on Craigslist, and found a decent mower, and offered the seller the Lawnboy for a small price reduction. I dropped off the Lawnboy, and about 20 minutes later he called be back, telling me to come pick it up, as it started easily, and ran beautifully after he cleaned out the under carriage of an amazing amount of grass. I went to the shop with the mower the next day, asking for a refund of my diagnostic fee. They apologized for the mechanic, and said that he'd been fired, but they would be unable to refund me the charges. They did offer to give me a free tune-up, which they said was a $125.00 service. The tune-up would include a new air filter, spark plug, oil change, sharpen the blade, and clean underneath and top. Well, retail price on the air filter is about $6.00, the spark plug is about $2.50, the oil is about $1.00. I had recently purchased an air filter and spark plug. I topped off the oil, and it looks very clean. I had also at the beginning of last season purchased an expensive mulching blade, which was still in excellent condition. The craigslist seller had cleaned up the mower. So, at the most they were offering me was a new air filter and spark plug, which was probably about $5.00 at their cost. Unethical business. Quoted price for lawn mower tune-up conveniently didn't include price for parts. Lawn mower sputtered (lopping) after tune-up. Never had this problem before; owner blamed my fuel. After complaining, he offered to prove his point, and would clean fuel system. I told him I was unwilling to pay anything additional. Upon return, had to wait 15 minutes before anyone asked if I needed help. Mower still sputtered, but less so. Owner didn't recall our previous conversation and wanted $40 for service, but eventually offered to accept only $20. Wish I had seen comments on this company posted on portlandcitysearch! read more

Brought in a leaf blower for an estimate/repair in November. It needed a carb kit. Did not get estimate for month and a half. Approved carb kit repair. They finished working on it April 8th. Picked it up, $158!!!. It was not what I had asked for. The're dismissive and argumentative. They lied to us about the price and the time it would take. They said they weren't done because they sent their guys to training, they also said they sent it to the factory to be looked at, but they didn't, (When we asked for it back.) Avoid this place at all costs. I went in to pick up a blade flange to attach the blade to my new mower engine. They asked me what the part number was, i didn't know so I asked if he could pull out a couple and I would be able to identify it or at least be able to describe it better with a visual aid. Has unwilling to assist me in selling myself a product. He told me to bring to motor in and he would be able to do it. I tried to explain it was not an option for me to bring in he then walked away and started helping another customer. Not to mention being extremely rude they honestly do not deserve any business what so ever. I left upset and frustrated, fortunately later that afternoon I drove passed a garage sale and the next door neighbor owns a mower repair shop, he was extremely helpful and I left there with the part I needed. DO NOT CONSIDER USING THIS BUSINESS!! I wish I had researched them before I called them. They did the job, but their attitude to customers is absolutely unacceptable! Our mower is huge and I needed someone who could pick up and repair. We described the problem and were told it was worn belts. After having the machine for 10 days we called to find out cost and how much longer. First, they could not find our mower. When the owner came on he was nothing short of snotty to our questions. They charge $50 for pick up and delivery and a 2 hour labor charge seems high for belts. But when they have your machine you are stuck. its back for $260. Another review says that he owner thinks he is "Gods gift" to mowers, I heartily agree! I told him he was rude to my husband and his excuse to me was that he talks to so many people he does not remember and does not care. Well, he lost a customer now and I will tell anyone I can to never use these people again. They have many units for sale in their lot. warning! !!! do not go to this company. i was quoted $329.00 to fix my 54" ride around mower. i was told it would be 14 days. i called numerous times in the next 7 weeks. still not done. week 8. i called. they said it was done and it would be $688.30. i said what happened to the quote of $329.00? they said "don't you remember, we contacted you about additional charges and you authorized them". i was never contacted at all for any additional charges and certainly never authorized them. when i asked jerry woll/owner , he simply said my employee "dan" has written on here that you authorised these charges. he then said "ok. no problem. i'll just go out there and take off all the repairs i did and you can have it. do not trust these people they are liars and will rip you off. also extremely rude. judy read more

I brought a riding mower to them for a new engine to be put in. They called to say when I brought it in the hood was broken. ( it was not and was fairly new). I went down there but went to the mechanic, he apologized and said he broke it in the shop. I then went to the owner and he refused to admit their error. Cost to me $400. They then called to say one of the hood latches was missing. (was on for them to be able to remove the hood). I again went to the mechanic and he admitted he lost it in the shop somewhere. Cost to me $20. They then said the new engine was in and ready to pick up. I mowed for around 5 hours when the electric clutch fell off. I had another shop do repairs and found out APlus mechanic put in the wrong bolt size and stripped the threads totally out. Cost to me $201 for a new clutch and $300 for a new crankshaft for my "brand new" motor. They lied at every step in the process and never once "manned" up and admitted their errors. Talk about gutless business practices, this one beats them all. Buyer beware and learn from my experience. read more
