After I decided to repair my car here, he didn't respect the customer at all. - OVERPRICED, DONT CLARIFY ANYTHING, BEING RUDE WHEN YOU ASK QUESTIONS. My engine went hot and the coolant was leaking. I came to the shop based on its high rating on Google Maps. He did a diagnosis and said it is the water pump issue and asked for a labor fee of $600 to replace it. Upon mentioning a lower quote ($430) from another shop, I was informed of additional charges like diagnosis and towing if I chose to take my car elsewhere. Then he asked for a new labor fee of $500. The next day, he messaged me that another part, the coolant tube, is broken as well and needs a replacement. He charged another labor fee of $180 to replace that. Then I messaged back to ask if the water pump (his original diagnosis) is broken or not. He called me back immediately and asked me to not disturb him. Said something like "He is the best one out there", "I am not here to teach people", "I am well-educated". I am quoting some words from Sam when I was at his shop: (1) Sam: "Bring somebody who understands English and knows the car." (2) Sam: "I am 52. I have way more experience than you do. You gotta have to learn a lot of things. Because when you are working with professionals, you gotta shut up and listen to the people." Me: Is it professional to let a customer shut up? Sam: "Yeah, because the customer is dumb." After getting this horrible service, I found that there are many other customers receiving such bad service. I paid my tax." Me: I paid my tax as well. Sam: "Maybe you pay somewhat, I pay a lot." Me: "So any difference?" Sam: "A lot of difference. Business owners have a lot of rights. That's why the cop cannot do anything." (2) Sam: "You are not gonna understand. You gotta learn a lot. I need you to sign right here. I need your payment. Otherwise the cop will come and arrest you." (3) Sam: "My job is not listening to customer, listen to my work." Me: "You also need to listen to customers." Sam: "You are wrong. You gotta learn hard way. So I called Larry at Showcase Auto in Pasadena where I had recently bought a used truck--another great experience and 5-star review--for his recommendations knowing they were in the car business. Larry had only 1 tranny guy... Ken at A-1 Champion. I called A-1, and Ken answered and said bring it in for free check. Ken called me a couple hours later saying it was the TCM, and he could replace it and completely service the tranny for just over $800 (I feared it would be double that). Car was ready the very next day. Couple days later, it slipped out of gear at a stop light (ugh, I thought 'on no, here we go'). Called Ken and he said he would send a tow truck to pick it up. He called me that same day and said the torque converter had failed and damaged the pump (a $1,200 fix). Called him the next morning to discuss what I needed to do. He said 'just come pick up the car'. I was confused since I didn't authorize any work. He said he fixed it and the cost would be zero $$. I tried to at least cover labor but he wouldn't take it. Ken runs a tight shop and I could tell he is all business. The folks there are attentive, responsive, and focused on getting your car back to you quickly. My experience with A-1 was very good with quick and fair-priced repairs. They fixed only what needed fixing, instead of up-selling a bunch of unnecessary repairs. I appreciated they making sure it was done right, and standing behind their work. I will go here for all future tranny work, and would highly recommend A-1 Champion to my family and friends.

They also did my leaf springs and reinstalled the shocks, but failed to bolt the bottom bolts down. A brake chamber was installed incorrectly, with the brake hose rubbing on the frame. This eventually caused the hose to break, leading to a roadside breakdown. The problem I see here is a lack of attention to detail and rushing through jobs without truly diagnosing the issues. I also dealt with a third-party warranty company that required the shop's business license and certified mechanic certificates. The shop promised to provide these but never did. They kept saying their mechanics were certified but refused to prove it to the #Warranty company. I expected more -- especially since they always claimed they would "look after me" as a customer. In the end, when I pressed for the documentation, they simply said, "We don't have to'
