I'm sure these small towns don't get many visitors. We checked in, got a room on the bottom floor- that was nice. Upon entering the room it appeared okay. I wasn't expecting The Hilton so my expectations were low. A quick look around and it looked like they were trying to make it look nice. But after really looking around it was more like they were trying to cover up vs update. If you like a bed that creeks with every movement you make AND feels like you're laying on the ground- you'll enjoy this place. Oh my mercy!!! If we could've stayed anywhere else we would have! I was going to just sleep in the truck, but... there was a man throwing up outside our room! By morning I was at the end of my rope and couldn't take anymore. There must have been a time this place was amazing, it had 5 stars!!! FIVE STARS PEOPLE?!?! I must have missed those days. Bad reviews are not my thing but someone has to say something. We snagged a room here to get us the majority of the way from Dallas to Eagle Rock Loop (Arkansas) so we could knock it out without a 4.5h drive leading up to it. I am so glad we did! Upon arrival at around 8PM, we had to call so the inn keeper could let us in, then we got a tour, and were shown upstairs to our room: #4. The floors are creaky with charm, but there's a private bathroom in the room, window-unit AC, and a large and powerful space heater (we were toasty on a freezing night). So much personality and personal touches here. A modest, but complimentary, selection of snacks and drinks are available in various places, too! All in all, I'd definitely come back and stay a little longer!

Upon arrival we received a warm greeting from the gentleman at the front desk and he showed us to our ground floor room. The decor in the hallway set the tone (rather rundown but featuring displays about the area and history of the hotel), one of the rooms we passed was missing a door and had a bed sheet covering the door way, perhaps it was being rehabbed? Our room was clean, sheets were nice and the beds were comfy but the room didn't feel finished (bare concrete floor, exposed pipes and electric lines from the room above running along the ceiling). The bathroom was clean but tiny and a bit rundown. After seeing the room for the first time, I'm certain that had I been with my wife, she would have insisted we get back in the car and keep driving. The hotel restaurant is closed for business (not sure if that is temporary or permanent) but that was definitely the only attractive room in the building. The whole marketing emphasis of this place is that it's "historic" but it's only from the 1940's, my home is much older and I've never thought of it as historic. Frankly, it felt like the whole "historic" thing was just an excuse for being so shabby. All in all I'd say that whoever is in charge of cleaning is doing a wonderful job but the whole place is rundown and desperately in need of restoration. You will be hard pressed to find somewhere decent to eat in town. We received a couple of recommendations for "El Rancho Mexican Grill" and it was pretty awful.

I absolutely loved the style, vibes, and welcomeness we received immediately upon arriving and throughout the entire weekend. Jane and Pat are so awesome, I loved getting to know them! Every morning there was coffee as well as fresh veggies and herbs we were more than welcome to use. The gardens, herbs all throughout the grounds, as well as the fire pits and outdoor kitchen, I loved it all! For dinner our first night, they had prepared a pizza dough for all of us and we just had to provide our toppings, which we prepared on our own before baking it in the brick oven. It was so neat! The owners poor initial plot planning was the 1st major mistake made. The Glover River has destroyed the same bridge over it, just a little upstream from the cabins 3 times due to heavy rains and flooding. The county finally got tired of continually rebuilding the bridge, so the last time it washed away, they decided to not rebuild. The owners were aware of the flooding potential hence; the cabins being elevated 8' off the ground sitting on piers. That was a good solution to protect the cabins, but what about the clients cars? These cabins are in a mess, a tent would be better.

It's a beautiful place on the Glover River, which you can see from every cabin. The owner Kim is very nice and friendly, they are also busy with running a farm it's best to call them to get a hold of them. They have no TV or radio in the cabins, we have AT&T and had almost perfect signal if needed. The suspension bridge was out due to floods they have had, also the dock is gone. The have canoes which are free to all guest. They do horseback riding too. It's about 25 mins. Top to Beavers Bend. They have a Queen, Full and two twin beds in the cabin. There is room for a blow-up bed too. They charge per person, which is nice. They also do a 10% off Military discount. The seclusion is nice you can't see the other cabins really since it's heavily treed.

We arrived and service came quick at the ring of a bell. Got our rooms booked, and was able to quickly get to our rooms with no issues with the lock. Inspected the room and found some issues: broken cover for the AC and some cracks along the tub, not perfect, but all worked as expected. Went ahead and started looking for any signs of bed bugs, and thank the Lord there was no bed bugs nor any signs of nesting. We did enjoy our stay. And we were glad to see changes done to upgrade the service compared to previous reviews.
