Cranes of Remembrance
Eva M.

I love art galleries. I just do. They are like free museums. The art rotates regularly so there's always something new to see (eventually). For the latest info, see antgallery.org. This A/NT Gallery is an artist run, all volunteers cooperative gallery. So you just might run into an artist whose work is on exhibit! (Side note: I know of similar artist run galleries in Kirkland and Edmonds; I always run into the artists at those.) The current major exhibit is called "The Memorial Crane Project", which will end on April 23, 2021 at this location. Look up memorialcraneproject.org for more details. It contains numerous strands of the origami cranes, one for every person who died of COVID-19. There are list of names on the wall as they continue to track this devastating pandemic. Other pieces are timely for the pandemic, such as an 8x30 print on metal titled "Pandemic, 2020". I saw a very pretty cherry blossoms watercolor by Tatyana Brown; cherry blossoms are currently blooming or almost done blooming. Viktor Sirotin's work has brush strokes reminiscent of Vincent Van Gogh. Also of note is Tom Saknit's minimalism pieces of "Redacted Photography". The location is very near the International Fountain, on the same side as the public restrooms. Definitely worth a visit.

I love Handmade Showroom! I make it a point to stop here every time I'm in Seattle and I always…read morefind a gift for someone here and my cats always get a little something. They have a great cat/dog toy section! The store features art and goods from local artists and there's so much cute stuff. I can easily spend 15-20 minutes perusing all the goods. I found the employees to be lovely whenever I visited. They sometimes would tell me about an artist if I'm looking at their wares and I love hearing more detail about things but I never felt pressure to buy anything.  Also they sell anything under the sun here from jewelry to vases to clothes to things for kids and babies. Great variety. I found a random darling egg sticker for my friend who loves eggs and my friend found these cool mushroom magnets for her sister who loves mushrooms. See, this store is amazing!  Pacific Place is a shell of its former self. A lot of the stores have closed and it seems like most people who do come here are coming to eat at Din Tai Fung or HaiDiLao but if you're in this mall make sure to stop by the 3rd floor and check it out! Highly recommend it! There's something for everyone. Also can be a fun way to while away some time if you're waiting for your seat in the above restaurants.  Also I just learned they have a website  https://thehandmadeshowroom.com/ so apparently I don't have to be in Seattle to shop their goods! Free shipping on orders over $50.

If you haven't visited before, you really should!!! Pacific Place might seem a bit empty right now…read moredue to: a 'rebuilding' phase, but there's a hidden gem you need to discover - The Handmade Showroom. Prepare to be amazed by this store filled with treasures from local artists. It's the perfect spot to find items that will impress your Instagram-loving friends, who love selfies and followers. Upon entering, you'll be greeted by a curated selection of handmade jewelry, bags, soaps, spices, cards, chocolates, clothing, pillows, pet supplies, and kid-friendly items. Boom, instant Christmas gift giving! Don't hesitate to inquire about the latest arrivals and popular items; that's a surefire way to boost your 'Likes' on social media, as you impolitely take pictures of stuff that other people will love to receive. In all seriousness... The Handmade Showroom is a wonderful small business that celebrates and supports local artists and craftspeople. It's definitely worth your time.
