It's so lovely to know that Dublin will never run out of surprises…read more Already a magic place for those in the know, Cow's Lane has delivered yet another marvellous, relevant spot for art lovers and collectors of things fun, fashionable and quirky: Cows Lane Designer Studio. A core group of designers and artists, already familiar to those who've frequented the Saturday Designers Mart at Cow Lane, formed the co-operative behind the March '09 debut of this unique store. As a more permanent version of that weekend delight, the studio boasts a eclectic collage of work by sculptors, jewellers, painters and artists whose work stretches into multimedia. Here you'll be able to take home that life-sized robot you've always wanted, along with a few delicate gold-wire bracelets, a scarlet hat and a sturdy hand-tooled notebook. Step into this brightly lit and colourful shop for an instant and powerful sense of the creative minds behind this venture. What's more, it's easy to bring that feeling home as the artists have priced their works for every day shoppers as well as serious collectors. Note to shoppers: bring cash, currently the shop is unable to accept credit / debit cards. Come here FIRST for a taste of brilliant, creative and modern Dublin.

And it's a good thing that they have this space on rainy days like today. The shop was very crowded on this Thursday afternoon and I was pleased to find out that some items were within my price range. What attracted me the most was the glass fusion jewellery by Deirdre Griffin. Griffin makes some really pretty pieces that are simple and colourful. A chunky ring goes for 15 or 20 euro while a pendant is more dear (30 euro). Besides jewellery, you can get some great decorative furniture. There was a log seat that was sanded down and cut into a cub that was selling for a whopping 400 euro. It was beautiful but sadly I don't have the cash to buy it.

They're stocking the fine-tip oil brushes and boxed pastel sets that would give any weekend artist a case of the vapours. But... does it have to be so hidden? I mean, how will people know that they can get sets of jelly jewels for their windows, quill and in sets, pipe cleaner animal kits and more if this place is so set back from the rest of the shopping area on this sizable centre's second floor... Could it switch spots with that Bershbear&M clothing shop a few doors down? It's not like that place is revolutionising fashion anyway. Maybe? No? Sigh. I'll just have to keep going myself to keep them in business.

Rather, it's a place to come if you're looking for fun, artsy activities. Whenever I visit home, my sister and I like to do random fun activities on lazy afternoons, often scooting over to the local art store to buy paint by numbers or stained glass kits. Yes I know that these items are primarily aimed at children, and yes I know that I am 25 years old. But are you aware how challenging some of those huge paint by numbers are? When you're done, you feel straight up ACCOMPLISHED. Anyway, Art & Hobby is basically a store filled to the brim with this kind of stuff. It's an awesome place for parents or babysitters to get some fun, creative and cool projects for their kids to spend rainy days with. From the ubiquitous paint by numbers to more elaborate model kits, this place has everything. They sell tons of school supplies, once again making it perfect for kids, and all sorts of pens, stationary, gifts and decorations. They also currently have Halloween decorations, projects and costumes.

I collect coasters from every country I visit and I spent 7 days looking for coasters with no luck. I even went into Irish Design Shop twice this day. After walking around the first floor looking defeated, a gal told me that there was an upstairs if I'm looking for anything else. As soon as I spotted these on a table upstairs I started to cry. Dramatic? I think not. I was ecstatic! I've since ordered artwork from them to deliver to the states. You'll regret not visiting their shop.

I really like the half-gloves that gave easy access to phones, but there were a bit pricy, so didn't purchase. Also gorgeous leather satchels, but I'm trying to not buy stuff I really don't need so resisted their temptation too! Went upstairs and got a really cool surprise! Laura Caffrey, a jewelry designer was working away and so had a lovely time chatting with her. She showed me these beautiful Silver & Enamel bowls (starting price is €410)!! that are also made by another artisan, and these were just so unreal looking! I coveted but might have to win that lotto to be able to buy one! If in the area, and have some spare time, stop in and speak to the artist and support local Irish crafts!! Yelp 98/ 2019
