He has a professional demeanor and a friendly ability to clearly communicate with each student on an individual level. He celebrates the strengths and achievements in your process, speaks to habits, and helps break down those walls that we so often put up (I know I do). After every lesson I step out feeling freer, happier, and more confident. There is a great difference in who I am now vocally and who I was when I walked into my first lesson with him over a year ago. Also...Missy is new to Davin Youngs Voice and she is fantastic as well! I have taken a lesson with her and she is personable and professional. She's also crazy-talented and understands why we do what we do and how to enhance our singing technique. She is a great addition!

I've been working with Davin for over a year. As an actor who has also attended an arts…read moreconservatory and has taken singing lessons over the years, he's one of the best vocal teachers I've worked with. Seeking to improve my talents as a vocalist, I've also taken group as well as private lessons at Old Town School of Music. I personally find private lessons to be of much more use than group lessons as it affords much more time to address the technical concerns(bad habits, posture, etc.) that are holding me back. A satisfying one on one dynamic with a private vocal coach can be much more difficult to find. I've had teachers where the lessons don't seem like they're building on anything; the "arc" of the lessons seems disconnected. As a private teacher, Davin is the best I've worked with. What I like about him is that he will keep on me about my bad habits and he's not afraid to be direct with his criticism(another peeve I have about some private coaches is that they are afraid to lose you as a client so they tend to sugarcoat things). Anyhoo, I heartily recommend him as a teacher. I joked with him once that as a starving artist, I have a budget: Rice, Beans and Singing Lessons. And it's true. Finding your voice as a singer is one of the most satisfying and amazing things you can do and with his help, I'm well on my way. Thanks, dude!

Somehow took me several years to get here to write a review; didn't even think he was on Yelp…read more Robert has been teaching me how to use my voice as an instrument. How to care for and train it, and how to play it. I went from shower singing to singing in public, performing in public within a year and my confidence and my ability grew along with my repertoire. He is a past master at analysis of strengths and weaknesses, reenforcing the former and transforming the latter. Whether you want to sing in public, need help in finding your voice in business meetings or just want to have fun, Robert is for you, the thinking person's singing teacher.

RHR studios posts regular open meetups (although you have to join their meet up group and register for the event). Roberts meetup takes place at martuni's bar. It's essentially an extension of the school there. So I registered and signed up for The meet up. When I arrived at the location of the meet up, Martuni's staff tried to prevent me from going in there. I explained that I signed up for the meet up and had to show them that there was in fact meet up there which the staff at tried to deny that there was. I was aggressively Felt up by that Martuni's staff member. I can't blame Robert for that. But after I said "please stop touching me," she became agitated, denied that she had touched me, and asked me to leave. So I left. Robert, instead of apologizing and offering to make it up to me, banned me from the meet up group. So that's how he runs his business. Asess how Robert conducts his business prior to walking in to his own establishment. Then you might see the side of RHR Voice Studios that i see.

I got here 15 minutes before they closed on a Saturday, but never felt rushed. Bea showed me the new mouthpiece they have but also asked if I was interested in used. (That grosses me out a bit, but I was assured they're sanitzed). I looked through the mouthpiece drawer and actually saw 2 Larry Combs mouthpieces. That's what I played on the entire time I played clarinet as a kid/teen, and what I originally wanted to buy (only to find out they stopped making them years ago, so they're hard to find). I have no idea if I had an LC1 or LC3 back then, but they had both in the shop. I didn't want to try it out that day since I had literally never touched a clarinet in 23 years and didn't want my first time trying it to be where other people could hear me (lol), plus it was closing time. But I came back on Monday and was able to go down to their practice room and try out both mouthpieces, and ended up buying one for $50. Not too shabby. Both the guy (I didn't catch his name) who got me set up in the practice room and Bea (who helped me check out afterward) were super nice. Bea was a gem helping me both times. PM Woodwind also has my old ligature for sale so I may go back to buy one once I decide if I want to actually keep this hobby going long-term. They also have reeds for comparable prices to Amazon, and I'd rather support them than Bezos, so I'll happily come back here once I figure out what strength reed I need these days.

Twice I took my horn in, and I never seemed to get even a fair level of customer service that I felt I should. I certainly am not a professional player which maybe would put me in front of the line, but commitments made were never met. I continually had to call it was one delay after another. I then years later was interested in a used horn they had on their website. $4,500+ horn. I received a quick response to my email interest, but EVERYTHING then has to go through Paul and he's TERRIBLE with any attempt at a timely response. He's ALWAYS going to give me a call TOMORROW. The employees there are careful in what they say, but it's obvious during my conversations with several of them, that they, too, are frustrated with Paul's lack of timely attention. I waited 2 months for answers to simple questions and finally gave up. I don't need to put myself through such unprofessionalism. I checked 3 months after my initial inquiry and it was still for sale. My original questions were simple due diligence questions. I would've easily bought the horn, but I guess they aren't too motivated to sell it. Bottom line? It's Paul's store and he can do whatever he wants, but I don't have to tolerate it.
