I was lucky enough to win 2 free tickets to this event, so my husband and I ventured out Friday evening to enjoy A Moveable Feast. After getting checked in, we headed to the main area for some appetizers. Interestingly enough, we didn't spot any silverware available here, so eating roasted potatoes and savory cheesecake with our hands was um, interesting. After some munchies, the event officially started with a musical performance. After this performance wrapped up, we were free to choose our next destination. The event is structured so you can sample various artistic performances and stop at food stations along the way. There was also wine (red and white) and water readily available. We made a beeline to check out some opera and ballet. We had a guest coming into town for the night, so we were only able to check out one additional performance after these two before we needed to head out, so that means we missed dessert, which I was a bit bummed about. The food was okay. A few bites per serving, but nothing too great. Most of it was vegetarian though, which we were thrilled about. :) The performances we seen were spectacular, and I'm really glad we were able to attend. I probably ended up dressing more on the casual side of dressy, as we noted probably 90% of attendees were in business casual or more formal attire. What a lovely fundraiser! My husband and me really enjoyed the whole event. We were gifted a pair of tickets from fabulous YELP (thank you!!!). From the very start, entering the UC campus, we were impressed! What an amazing, modern University! There are several performing venues in just one CCM building, amazing! Parking was easy in the underground garage and the whole event was beautiful, with elegantly dressed people, young talents around and unlimited wine around. The programme was very diverse and everybody could make their list of short performances to see. The venues filled very quickly, though! The opening act was a musical performance 'Jazz&Musical Theater Prelude', which was nice (very very loud in the small auditorium, though!). Unfortunately, it finished 10 minutes passed the schedule and it influenced the next shows, obviously. Even though it was a FEAST, it was mostly an artistic one, as the food was less than impressive. Wine and pepsi were widely available, but the food appeared only after 8 and was just OK. Anyway, it was nice to see the community support the young students and to meet dr Santa Ono, the President of UC and his lovely wife. Really amazing fund raiser! read more

This was such a nice event. We got to really see what CCM is all about. I really enjoyed exploring the building by finding new tables of really yummy food treats! Our favorite performance was the dance with the big band feel to it. This is not an event we have gone to in the past but we would be interested in attending again. It was a great mix of people and we really enjoyed walking around and mingling with people we don't usually get a chance to meet in our circles. Cool event. Great cause. read more

My husband and I had a wonderful evening at the Moveable Feast. I was very impressed by the Ariel Quartet, transfixed by the graceful ballet, entertained by musical theater ensemble, moved by the Philharmonia, and delighted by the opera. The food-it was plentiful, but not amazing. I was very impressed by how many dishes were vegetarian (or could be made vegetarian). The food relied heavily on cream-creamy pasta, creamy salad (Caesar) creamy mac and cheese, grilled cheese with creamy tomato soup, you get the idea. Also, we were told about cocktails on the CCM event map, but there was only red and white wine (though it was plentiful, and pretty good for wine). Two years in a row I've won tickets to Moveable Feast through Yelp. For those who don't know: Movable Feast is CCM's largest fundraiser of the year. Throughout the evening you eat delicious food, drink delicious wine, and see amazing performances that leave you amazing that you are watching college students. Each session lasts around 20 minutes and there are 4 sessions of entertainment plus the beginning and finishing performances. That means in the two years I've gone I've seen 10 performances and have yet to be disappointed by a single one. There's something for everyone: music groups like jazz band, ballet dancers, theater, backstage tours... the list goes on! It's a great event for both the performing arts enthusiasts and newbies. If I had been writing this review last year the review would be 5 stars no doubt! Unfortunately the food this year left me disappointed. I understand that they drastically reduced the ticket prices so that more young professionals could attend, but unfortunately I could tell in the quality of the food. The first year I left the event completely stuffed with some of the best food I'd had in a while. We would return to booths for seconds and thirds of our favorites. This year I often didn't finish the food from any of the booths. If the event is to truly be a 'feast' I think the food needs to improve a bit. Hopefully the planning committee can find a happy medium between ticket prices and delicious food. read more

I won free tickets to this event, and I was very excited to be able to attend it. The one snarl of the night was that my name wasn't on the list for some reason, but that got straightened out easily enough, and I put it right behind me so I could enjoy the night. I wasn't super impressed with the food offerings at first (boo, cold potatoes). However, later on, it was clear that there seemed to be an effort to accommodate vegetarians. That made me happy. I enjoyed some mac & cheese, pasta salad, cookies, and a tiny but incredibly tasty milkshake as little snacks throughout the night. The scattered events throughout the building were amazing. The string quartet put on such a spirited and emotional performance. The steel drums were fun and vibrant. I had never seen ballet before, so I chose to check that out, and it was so lovely. There were a few points that seemed a bit shaky, but the dancers came together and I think the entire audience was as moved as I was. Capping the night off with the symphony was perfect. I loved the pieces they played, and I was so impressed that apparently they'd only been practicing one of the songs for about a week. It was definitely a well-planned evening, highlighting so many of the amazing things the students are doing at the CCM. read more

So I won tickets to this via Yelp, and it's my college so it holds a special place in my heart. There was certainly no shortage of talent, from pianists to ballet dancers, to even a full steel drum band. The performances were on point and so much fun to watch. As for the logistics, this part was kind of fun as well. Except for the beginning, I wasn't on the guest list so that took a bit of sorting out. But after that, my guest and I were given a schedule of who would be performing and where. This is important, it's a little like a choose your own adventure as you pick your performances and wander about CCM. Again, you can't pick a bad performance. So should you be indecisive, don't stress. A note though, the line to get into the musical theater performance was very long every session. It's definitely worth seeing, but I'm not sure anything there isn't! But, if musical theater is your thing, I would recommend picking a performance adjacent to it so you are nearby and can get in line immediately. As for the moveable feast, I think that may be a bit of an overstatement. I'd eat before you go. There wasn't a ton of selection, in fact I think the same offerings were served at every "feast" area. There's plenty of wine available, more so than food, and although I couldn't find it, I did see a few beer bottles floating around in the crowd. It's a great night, and really a perfect sampling of offerings showing why exactly UC's CCM is one of the premiere programs in the nation. read more

my wife and i won free tickets to this event (thanks, yelp!), and we had an enjoyable evening. the food was delightful, and the showcases were superb. i especially enjoyed the jazz opener. my love loved the Philharmonia Orchestra finale. our only downside: it was a sold-out event, so it was quite crowded. read more

What a fun time. I loved the concept of this. A huge thanks to Yelp for the tickets and the chance to experience the amazing talent. We had been to a Musical production so we knew the level but not the breadth. The Philharmonic finale completely blew us away. They were phenomenal and we will definitely be back for a show. The steel drum band was fun and the Quartet was quite impressive. Wish some of the planning had been laid out better because we were late to shows when others ran over and we didn't get to see the Musical Theater since the line was completely down the hall waiting for the doors to open and it was a small space to begin with. The food was just ok but as expected for a mass fundraiser. read more

Our hometown world recognized theater and music college show and tell their best preformances around the UC facility while guest dine on highlighted bites from local eatery hotspots and imbibe from the open bar.
