I brought in the wheel and the bolt, and this team scoured the shop to make sure I was given a washer that would work, and then tried to NOT charge me! Had three issues with mower that I explained and they only repaired two. This was not revealed until I used the mower. Took it back when I realized this and owner was unapologetic, rude and actually told me to take it somewhere else. This old man should just retire since he's working on putting himself out of business anyway. Stay away. read more

Used to be a great company; now, not so much... I bought a new Dixon Zeeter from McStephensons back in 1993. They prepped it, delivered it and I was very happy. A few years back, I had to replace a few worn sprockets and chains on the same mower and contacted them for price/availability--they were 3x the price I was able to get online. I like to support local businesses; but, I couldn't afford to in this instance. I asked if there was any wiggle room in the price and they said they were only making a few dollars as it cost them $169 for the parts; so, I pointed them to an online source that I was going to use because it was only $55.95 + shipping. Since then, I stopped in to get a fuel filter for my chainsaw. When I gave the lady $5 to cover it and it was more, I had to use a credit card to buy it because I was cash poor. The lady said she had given me the $5 bill back; but, she didn't--my wallet was empty. Ended up paying nearly $7 via credit card + $5 for a fuel filter. Lady started becoming pissy when I asked for the cash back, so I said "it's all good" and walked out--not worth $5 to me--I'm sure her till was $5 over at the end of her shift. Probably an honest mistake but a poor response on her part. Yes, I understand McStephensons is primarily a service shop, and not a parts retailer--which is why I was willing to pay nearly $7 for a filter that I can get a 10-pack of shipped to my door for $6.85 in the first place. Anyway, I think I'll direct my $ away from McStephensons to a different parts retailer, hopefully a local company. read more

I had no wrench to remove the blade from my mower. I sent it to McStephenson's to have the blade sharpened and balanced. Without my authorization they "repaired" my carburetor by discarding my custom spring and replacing it with a weaker one. This made the mower unusable in my thick tall grass. They replaced the spark-plug wire (which worked fine before they fixed it). They replaced the air cleaner (I had one at home ready to install) and they charged me $60.00. When my mower came back to me, the blade had been neither sharpened nor balanced. I will never, again, send any of my equipment there for servicing. You have been warned. read more

DO NOT TAKE IT HERE!!!!! Customer service is horrible! Totally incompetent staff. I took my Scotts by John Deer riding lawn mower in for normal service at the beginning of the season. Received mower back after a $300 repair bill. Saying that the carb had to be rebuilt and other minor repairs. Went to mow lawn the 1st time after service and the engine wanted to stall out when blades were engaged. I was very shocked. But after mowing a few times this worked itself out. I had told them it was leaking gas from somewhere as I would fill it up and with in a week the tank would be empty. This was not repaired so I would just shut the gas off in line. Issue solved temporarily. Then after a month or so the gear that engages the blades brook. So I took it back to be repaired. Also told them again about the leaking gas through the exhaust. It took nearly 2 1/2 weeks to be repaired. Then another $300 repair bill. The carb had to be rebuilt again along with the spindle repair. WHAT!!! No call for an estimate nor explanation of why. Then they left the key on and killed the battery. Which was only a year old at this time. Oh well! so the attitude was portrayed. I bring it home to mow the lawn after installing a new battery myself. The mower blades will engage now but will not disengage unless you turn the mower off and bang the mower deck up and down to break it free. Still leaks gas. So I take it back again They have it for a week and half and say everything is fine good and running. I call to tell them I will be by in 30-45 minutes and to recheck everything as I need to use it right way to mow a rental property. I stand there for 5min before acknowledged. Finally they come out and the BATTERY IS DEAD someone left the key on. It will be just a few min sir. After 30min I am getting PO'd. Mechanic come out and says the solenoid it bad and needs replaced. WTF!! Now you tell me after I took time off work to get here and wait 30-40 min. So I let them have it and say how incompetent they are. He says I'm not incompetent. Um.... yes you are if you left the key on killed my battery and there are other issue that need attention and when I call you tell me its good and running. No apologies nothing by them to make things right just pushed my mower to the door here you go. Then I get home to charge the battery they left tie down off and the screws so I had to replace one set. I WILL NEVER GO THER FOR SERVICE EVER AGAIN.!! This place is ran by a bunch of old farts that should have retired 10 years ago. STAY AWAY!!! read more
