Barney was friendly and professional on our initial call, but unfortunately we didn't proceed after our first mediation session. For our situation, which involved a career pause, income imbalance, and more nuanced spousal support considerations, his approach felt very formula-based. He seems best suited for simple, straightforward cases with minimal complexity. After speaking with other professionals, specifically a CDFA who has worked with Barney and learning more about mediation, I feel better about my decision to pause, and find someone better aligned with our needs. read more

We worked with Barney during our divorce mediation and had a very positive experience. He was professional, diligent, and well-prepared throughout the process. We had both in-person and virtual discussions with Barney over a two month period. We especially appreciated his openness to creative settlement options and his clear, responsive communication. He made a difficult situation feel much more manageable. We are grateful for Barney's guidance and would recommend him to anyone seeking a fair and thoughtful resolution. Laz & Kelly read more

We are currently in the process of using Mediation services from this office. We met through Zoom. A consultation is free to help decide whether or not to use Mediation. Once we were able to move forward, Barney was extremely helpful and knowledgeable in helping both my ex and I decide on factors regarding our divorce. It was very informative and I feel like they did most of the work.' The only thing I had to do was attend the meeting and set our agreements. Everything was done through email via docusign. I only had to come to the office once to drop off notarized signatures. Prices are fair too. Thank you Barney and Brianna for making the process easy for us! read more

This review is long overdue. I HIGHLY recommend A Healthy Divorce. My then-husband and I each had our own divorce attorney for about 18 months, had spent thousands of dollars on legal fees, and weren't really making any progress towards finalizing things. We decided to give A Healthy Divorce a try, and I'm so glad we did. Barney was very helpful and we got everything finalized in two or three sessions. Barney was able to accomplish so much more in those few sessions than our separate attorneys had in 18 months. And for far less money. I am so grateful to him! read more

If you're looking to settle your divorce amicably and fairly, Barney is your man. Let's face it, divorce is hard, emotional, tiring, and a life changing event. Barney, being a former divorce attorney brings his skill set plus compassion and empathy to your situation and actually makes what could be a contentious drawn out process fairly straight forward. In reality it is, CA law is pretty straight forward when it comes to divorce. Once you understand that and can remove the emotional component of ending a relationship (not an easy task), Barney lays out for you what the result will be. I'm so pleased I found Barney to help me and my ex-husband reach a divorce settlement. read more

Nobody gets married anticipating that they'll ultimately divorce. In the event you need these services and you're amenable to finding a solution that works for the two of you, then Barney is your best bet. Under most circumstances I think his flat rate deal makes sense. Regardless, even if you go over and you're charged at an hourly rate, it's significantly less than if each party hires an attorney and takes it to court. Once you do that, you've handed over all the decision making to somebody who's not you and your soon-to-be former partner. You have to know what is 'enough' for you and not be seeking to take your soon-to-be former spouse to the cleaners. You have to be willing to sit with the messiness of it and the emotionalness of it and trust the process. Barney's really good at letting things breathe. He's not ignoring you when he doesn't answer your email quickly. He's letting you marinate in your own stuff. And you have to. You and your soon-to-be former spouse are untangling finances, residence, kids, belongings, assets .... It's a lot and on top of that, it's emotional. No one person in this process is going to be super happy. But if you can walk away from it feeling as though it was fair, that's the best anyone can expect. Definitely hire a consulting attorney to review your document to watch out for your best interests. But you need to keep them in check with acknowledging what you know you've given up in exchange for peace of mind and cohesiveness in the light of separation/divorce. Check your gut and figure out what's enough for you. read more

I should have done this years ago. Barney help me with my divorce and child custody case a few years back and still years later feel the need to tell everyone what a great job he did for me. Barney is not your typical money hungry lawyer he is out for your best interest , I never felt rushed and he always listened to my concerns he made me feel at ease and relaxed during the whole process. Barney went up to bat and spoke for me like if he was going through it himself. I would give him and alma 10 Stars if I could. Thanks Barney read more

Barney Connaughton is great at what he does. Instead of making matters worse in a tense and heartbreaking situation, he is able to resolve things peacefully. This is good for everyone, especially if there are children involved. I am a fellow attorney in the community and I know Barney to have an excellent reputation in the legal profession. I also had a family member use his divorce mediation services so I know of his effectiveness. If you are getting divorced a mediation at a Healthy Divorce is the best option, by far. read more

I have known Barney over a year as his insurance agent. Although I have never had to use Barney's services, I have heard from other attorney clients and friends of mine that Barney has a great reputation in the legal community. He is honest and friendly, and most importantly, he has the award-winning experience to get the job done quickly, efficiently, and cost effectively. During these troubled times, with the pandemic going on and courts being closed, Barney can still provide his clients a way to move forward with the mediation process and get up to 99% of the work done, all from the comfort of their homes. I'd give Barney 10 Stars if YELP would allow me too! My wife and I both agree that Barney's separation and divorce mediation experience and service was "key" in helping us come to a quick, easy, fair and amicable permanent separation agreement. When we began our search for someone to help us we met with two other local attorneys too. When we told them we were meeting with Barney later that day as well and that we would get back to them with our decision as to who we wanted to represent us, they both said that Barney was "The Best" and if we didn't pick them we were in good hands. They were "Right ON." Thank You Barney. read more

Barney was clear, compassionate, and exceptionally easy to work with throughout the entire process. He is highly responsive and concerned for the best possible outcome for all parties. Additionally, he provided us with an up-front, accurate quotation for the work he would need to complete our mediation, which is something we did not find with other mediators with whom we initially consulted. It was as good an experience as we could have hoped for. read more

Barney is a blessing. I went to a guy in Poway before him for a consultation. Fancy office, good talker, smooth and made no bones about how dialed in he was and that if I brought the money, he'd crush my ex in court. I walked out of there knowing I couldn't do that to the mother of my kids and fate led me to Barney's office. He's a good, honest man who wants to make the process as painless as possible, ESPECIALLY for the kids. I don't know who Nessa D is below, but she's either a fake, or she's disgruntled because Barney wouldn't blindly be her attack dog. He will be your advocate when it's needed, but he's adept at walking you back when you're on the edge and feeling angry. He keeps the process moving along and is not unnecessarily communicative, incurring billing for no reason. He is fair and earns every dollar he bills you. Mediation was not an option in my case, but Barney kept it as close to that as possible, avoiding all litigation so far. I am especially thankful for the way he was always calm and respectful and kind to my ex and her attorney, even when they maybe didn't deserve it so much. I highly recommend Barney. read more
