My son got his suit for homecoming here, and the entire thing was ill-fitting and sub-par quality. There was a clip-on tie, suit jacket was too big in the shoulders, lapel, and arms. Vest was too big. Trouser legs were hemmed to different lengths, with both legs being too short. The creases at the hems weren't even pressed. I came to find a formal dress for my aunts wedding. The selection was basically all prom styles which I didn't want as I'm 23. They weren't even cute, almost tacky. I had an appointment and the lady helping didn't make it a fun experience. Beware of this business. Young, inexperienced, unprofessional staff. Deceptive and unethical business practices. Customer service was non-existent, immediately following the purchase and payment in full plus shipping of the wedding dress and veil. It was extremely difficult to get status updates from A Formal Affair and Buttons & Seams Alterations. Alterations were extremely sloppy. Akunna completed all measuring for alterations. Dress required 4 dress fittings. Dress was complete and ready for pickup, with multiple residual lining issues Monday, 9/16/2019 before the Saturday, 9/21/2019 wedding. Upon arriving at home, we noticed the neckline, which had been lined, had loose scraps of fabric exposed above and below the lace. The lining on the side of the dress split and separated from the lace. At the third dress fitting, Akunna attempted to charge a rush fee of $190 when she realized that the wedding date was just two weeks away. Akunna had been informed when we originally purchased the dress in February 2019, that the wedding was Sept. 21, 2019. She mistakenly thought the wedding was Sept. 28, 2019. Akunna started making multiple excuses for the reason we were suddenly in a rush mode for these alterations. Akunna expressed that shipping took 15 days instead of the originally scheduled 7-10 days because the dress was shipped from China and was held up in a port. Akunna expressed that A Formal Affair was understaffed. Akunna expressed that the schedule was very complicated and Akunna, Molly and Alex all needed to be present for the next fitting. Akunna expressed that we were contractually bound for rush fees. After listing a multitude of excuses, Akunna ultimately paid the $190 rush fee. A Formal Affair does not appear to have a corporate office as stated by Akunna. The email address for A Formal Affair is aformalaffairga@gmail.com. According to Akunna and A Formal Affair Manager, Marissa, the corporate office in New York does not have a mailing address, telephone number or contact person. Akunna and Marissa both suggested that we contact the corporate offices at aformalaffairga@aol.com . A Formal Affair presented Buttons & Seams Alterations as a separate company, which allowed them both to blame the other when alterations were not going smoothly. Ultimately, the dress was completed for the wedding. The $125 bustle failed within minutes of attaching the loop to the designated button and we secured the bustle with a safety pin for the entire reception. At no time during the four dress fittings did any employee at A Formal Affair apologize for the process or show any empathy for the stress we were feeling. A Formal Affair was our only vendor to receive less than 5 stars. I would not recommend purchasing anything from this business. read more

AKA *A Formal Nightmare* Brides - if you want the days leading up to your wedding to be some of the most stressful of your life, then this is the suit rental shop for you! My husband and I selected suits for our wedding a full 18 months prior to the day of. That didn't stop this store from neglecting to send 2/8 of the suits on time and sending the wrong bow tie for the groom not once, not twice, but three times! On the wedding day I could only shake my head when I also realized they sent the wrong pocket squares for all of the groomsmen, and most of the suits did not fit. Working with this business was nothing short of an exercise in frustration, disappointment, and disgust, and over $2500 was spent on this delightful experience. Buttons and seams Expensive and unprofessional (passive aggressive). Gave them 5 months to do the alterations and was told it was enough time for everything that needed to be done. Failed to mention that they would be moving locations while they had my dress and only found out after not hearing from them for over a month and arriving to an empty building with a sign on the door with the new location that was under further construction after fearing they stole my dress. Could not get in contact with anyone for that reason for a month and a half on the phone and in person. A week before my wedding they failed to take into account the need to get the dress cleaned and claimed people would do it in 24hr...the cleaners they referred to me pretty much laughed at the concept. So I then was told I had to choose between getting the dress cleaned or getting the alterations finished that were already paid for and "nonrefundable". After calls from me, my family and the store I got the dress from, something was worked out to where I could get the dress cleaned and altered however I received the final product the morning of my wedding. They charge an exorbitant amount to rent a tux, have you pick it up a week before the event, and charge $75 per day for each day after the event it isn't returned. Why don't you get a week afterwards to turn it in?? They are only open Friday to Monday 10-5 too, so if you go to school and have a job, you're toast. Pretty underwhelmed by the experience here. We came on a Thursday (with an appointment) and there was one person working in the whole store from what I could tell. Not sure what would have actually happened if anyone else came in... The consultant was ok, nothing special. Didn't seem to super understand my sister's style but did pick out one that was great on her. Dress selection was big enough, not great and not bad. Viewing area furniture is a bit worn and for whatever reason you can't take pictures... Doesn't make sense when you're trying on a hundred dresses in one day. How on earth could you remember what they look like? Snuck photos on my phone instead of my nice camera anyway. The one my sister liked was supposedly an "A Formal Affair original," but we definitely found it later on the internet under a designer called Kenneth Winston. Actually their sign says you can't even use your phone (call, text, nothing!) in the store...but why? As a maid of honor who accompanied my sister to 6 bridal shops, I would have gone CRAZY if I couldn't use my phone even to browse the internet while I waited for her to try them on. After a terrible experience at Treasures we decided to head here to salvage our wedding dress shopping trip. At this point, I was ready to buy a dress just needed to find the right one. We walked in the shop and the woman at the front was a bit friendlier than the last shop and asked me what I was looking for. I purchased my wedding gown from A Formal Affair. I was measured and the shop threw in free length alterations because I purchased my dress the first time I tried it on. It came in 5 months. Once the dress arrived, the seamstress at the store quit. When I came in for a fitting everything about my gown was wrong. The dress literally fell off of my body when I moved my shoulders. The length was wrong- obnoxiously long. I took the dress somewhere else to be altered and that shop turned me away and said it was 4 sizes too big. In the end, I spent $500 more in alterations at another shop. A Fomal Affair blatantly ignored my attempts to make good on the length alterations. They refused to call my mother or I back and never paid for their inept measuring. My experience with this store was awful. I called them to determine if they had the styles of bridesmaid dresses I was seeking for my wedding party. My goal was to determine if they had the dresses for try-on whereas my ladies are different shapes and sizes and would like to see a dress on them before placing an order. They advised in order to try on the dresses they would EACH need to pay a $25 fee for bridesmaid consultation. I was OK with this whereas although odd, I experienced this once at a bridal shop in Miami and figured their consultants needed some sort of compensation for their time even if we didn't purchase. Things went left when I asked the lady on the phone if she could verify the in-stock status of the dresses I was interested in so I could determine if the trip to the store (35miles) and $25 per girl was even worth the trip. Once she realized that I wasn't booking without having my style questions answered, the lady on the phone grew very rude and kept trying to secure an appt without confirming my styles. She advised I had 5styles in mind and she was really busy but promised she would look at the styles and call me back. I was taken aback by her attitude but I figured she may have been having a rough day and would call back with the info when she had a moment in order to secure the beloved appt she was trying to force me into. It took 5days and 3 voice mails left to their store before I finally got someone on the phone! They were unapologetic about ignoring my calls and offered nothing but excuses. My 1st voice mail was garbled and hard to hear ( I called from a desk phone at work), the 2nd call they heard clearly but when they were calling my # it wouldn't go through (total crock of lies), and the last voice mail, "they never received". To TOP THINGS OFF, when they looked up my styles with me on the phone they DIDN'T HAVE NONE OF MY FIVE DRESSES IN STOCK. IN FACT, THEY COULDN'T EVEN TELL ME WHICH dESSY DRESSES THEY DID HAVE IN STOCK! The lady says, "well you should come anyway we have some others you could look at". Uh no! I researched these dresses for WEEKS & MONTHS. I knew what I wanted. In retrospect, I don't think they even carry the brand I am interested and instead of telling me this they wanted to waste my time, take our $25pp and hope we fell for another dress once we got there! I'm happy I didn't let them jerk me around and force the appointment on me without the details I was seeking being supplied. They are rude, lazy, liars, money hungry and full of tricks and excuses. I wish I had read all of the reviews prior to going to this place. It's obvious that Akunna and the rest of the employees at the store monitor and dispute negative comments on their different platforms, so the negative experiences can be a little hard to find. I'll start by saying Akunna is a wonderful saleswoman. We felt very welcomed and attended to early 2019 when I went to try on wedding dresses. However, there were a couple of odd things about how they ran their business that gave us red flags: 1) We weren't under any circumstances allowed to take pictures of the dresses until the papers were signed to buy it, and 2) we weren't allowed to know who designed the dress. However, I ended up trying on a dress I loved, and we went ahead and bought it. But we still felt weird about not having been allowed to know the designer. Every other wedding store provided this information to give the designers credit. We then read through all of the reviews for this place and dreaded November when my dress was supposed to arrive. It's very likely that A Formal Affair has these dresses made cheaply overseas to mock actual desigers' dresses. SO many negative reviews complain their dresses didn't look like the original, weren't sized correctly, etc. On the day my mom and I went to pick up my dress, they weirdly had us do a 'dress check' to verify it was what we ordered, and we had to sign papers after looking at it and BEFORE even trying it on. My mom and I had already decided to probably have the final alterations done by a personal seamstress, but A Formal Affair repeatedly would mention their "neighbor seamstress" in the business "next door". The seamstress' building is literally connected to A Formal Affair. I tried on my dress (which, thankfully, was the fit and look of the dress I tried on... I think we were one of the lucky ones in that aspect), and she mentioned changing to go next door to the seamstress. I asked if I could just keep the dress on and walk through the connecting door, but she said they don't use that door. We didn't think much of it, so I got out of my dress, put it back in it's bag, changed clothes, and Akunna walked my mom and I up the stairs, out the door, and down the side of the building to the front entrance of the seamstress. We walked into the seamstress' office.... and the seamstress was the same lady who was just working as the receptionist upstairs at A Formal Affair??? She clearly had just walked down the stairs and used the connecting door. My mom and I felt SO uncomfortable. Several negative reviews mention issues with alterations, but A Formal Affair tries to make it very clear that this is a "separate business" - most likely so that customers won't hold them liable/write negative views specifically for A Formal Affair, even though it's clearly run by the same people. I changed into my dress to have her figure out what alterations were needed, and this lady could not pin my dress. It was as if she's never pinned a dress for alterations. She struggled so long to pin parts of the dress that I stopped her before we were finished and told her we were going to go elsewhere for the alterations. I would NOT recommend this place to anyone, but ESPECIALLY to a bride. In reading through their negative reviews (specifically on Google Reviews), you'll notice they only respond to some of them. They don't appropriately address the concerns regarding their policies that I've stated above. I was shopping for my bridal gown last Fall and shopped at two other places prior to finding A Formal Affair. I knew they were an appointment-only operation so I called right away and made my appointment. I tried on 12 dresses in the other shops and didn't find anything that suited my body. In just an hour here, I found my gown! Akunna and Marissa were so patient and kind during the fitting. It is EXTREMELY important to make the appointments so that they can designate the time accordingly, this shop is a boutique-size/style shop. My anxiety was relieved after finding the dress of my dreams on day one here. The only concerns I had were: 1) it is a very small shop, so it can be overwhelming for someone who doesn't do well in small spaces (like myself) and 2) I felt rushed on my 2nd and 3rd dress fitting which caused me to get a panic attack. Shame on you formal affair. After purchasing an expensive prom dress last year we returned this year. We made it clear that this year we wanted something less expensive a new salesperson helped us. We found a dress but under closer inspection we noticed a stain and a pulled bead. Another girl came in the on her phone and seemed to be the manger. She was annoyed I was pointing this out. Tried to say what did I expect this late in the season. I should have walked out right then. She offered A discount. I said if they had another I'd pay full price. Again she got back on her phone. They said that kind of stain is from people trying on and the discount would cover fixing the bead and stain. There were no others similar in her size. I should have walked away. But I believed them. They helped me last year. Went straight to seamstress who saidSEVERAL of beads were in bad shape and the stains were oil based. And yes I said stains. In bright light the dress became like a crime scene with oily blotches. I called the shop and said I was coming back this is not what I bargained for. They sAid don't bother all sales final. I said but I bought under your assertion this was no big deal AND IT WAS LESS THAN TWO HOURS since purchase. When I asked to speak to owner the snotty front desk girl said no she was in change and spoke to me like trash. It's been a horrible experience and I have a 500$ stained gown for my daughters senior prom. I should have trusted my gut that this woman just wanted a sale. Adanna the owner will not call me. When it came time to decide, she didn't offer her opinion, but asked me questions about how I felt. It was our first day looking, as a mother I said "lets see what else we may find". We went to 5 other stores, my daughter was adamant about the one dress from their store. I called the next day at opening and got a voicemail, I left a very detailed message. NO RESPONSE. I called again at 12:30 to get the voicemail again. I thought maybe they were at lunch. I called at 2, where someone answered. I told them my daughter wanted the dress, was I committed, yes , I needed to bring $50, until her father came the next day. I drove the 40 minutes, with cash. We walk in and BRANDI says, this is awkward, but I just sold your dress Talk about deflating your little girl, but how unprofessional. She knew we were on our way, she could have called and said I have another buyer. I have NEVER dealt with people so low. The dress was a sale, she decided To show it, within the 40 minutes it took to get there. To the store , train your employees better. The client was actually not even checked out when we got there. Initial email correspondence from A Formal Affair stated it takes up to 7-15 business days for the gown to arrive in the store from listed ship date which would put the latest date of arrival at 7/15/16. As I do not live in state, I called a few days after 6/24/16 to get an estimation of when the gown will be in store to make travel arrangements for pick up. I received no response. I called a few more times and received the run around with either no call back when leaving a message or told no information can be provided without the manager present who seemed never to be available. I finally decided to email A Formal Affair on 7/18/16 after getting no where with associates in store and leaving multiple messages with no call backs. Akunna, who I believe is the manager, emails me almost a week later on 7/23/16 to tell me the gown has been delayed an additional 2 weeks. This is unacceptable as this causes a major inconvenience and major expense that I did not plan for. At this point, I want a full refund for poor customer service, inability to deliver product purchased in time frame agreed upon and undue stress working with this vendor has caused me. I have requested a refund and have been completely ignored by A Formal Affair. I wish I never stepped foot in store and gave them my money. This place is horrible. The sales associates are very pushy and rude and more focused on making a sale than ensuring the customer is happy. Do not turn your wedding dress shopping experience into a nightmare by going to this dingy little shop. I recommend Wedding Angels, Treasures Formal, and Atlanta Bridal Couture. read more

Rude consultants. Were not helpful unless you were willing to spend over $600 for a dress. Would directly call you out on your choices if they were slightly out of your price range. Bad experience overall. read more
