This place is ADORABLE, my little girl loves going to ballet & tap here! Her teacher, Ms. Eleana, has the patience of a saint.

Her women-centered playlists and shouts of encouragement during Kick & Punch are seriously empowering, and even though I have no rhythm and no coordination I feel so free and so confident. That woman had me SMILING while doing sit ups to Beyoncé yesterday!!! I dare you to find another workout class that makes you smile while doing sit ups. I haven't quite worked up the courage yet to go to a full on dance class (see my note about no coordination) but I do thoroughly enjoy the array of fitness options offered here. Even though they are no longer on ClassPass, I see myself switching over to a membership in the near future...because how could I not support this amazing woman-owned local studio!

I have experience with music and a lot of energy, and I needed a new hobby since my work was taking up all of my time, and I needed a way to de-stress. When I found TextureDance in my neighborhood, I decided to give dance a try, since it was convenient for me, and dancing always looked fun. I have LOVED going here! I didn't really know what to expect when I started dancing, but this place managed to exceed my expectations. Damon is a fantastic dance instructor. Even though he's a very experienced and skilled dancer, he is great at explaining things to beginners, and encouraging everybody to do their best, regardless of skill level. Every time I go to a class, I leave feeling great, and my body feels excellent for the rest of the night after having a good workout. Since starting here, I have gotten myself back in much better shape. I use the monthly membership option, where I get unlimited classes for 30 days, then register again. This option has been great, as it's allowed me to go to 3-4 classes a week, as my schedule allows. They're great for people with busy schedules, since you can attend as many or as few classes as you can, and you can register for each one individually. Anyway, I just want to encourage anyone who's in Chicago and wants to learn to dance, or to get in better shape, try TextureDance! It's a great environment for everyone, regardless of your level of experience.

Two vogue classes I've taken here were low-key kind of traumatizing for me. I've been dancing for a while and I normally enjoy my dance classes, but I hate the way that Damon often attacks the idea of masculinity in this class and it left me feeling deeply disrespected as an enby person. I hadn't felt that energetically misaligned and uncomfortable in a space in 10 years. I felt pressured to mask autistic traits because I was singled out for not masking those traits, making the environment very ableist. That day, I felt on the non-speaking spectrum and it was like he was trying to explain to me what was happening in the room socially, as if I didn't know. I *did* know, I just did not want to engage in the social dynamics as an autistic person who came to dance, not to socialize verbally that night. I feel perfectly fine not "fitting in" in a space, just let me not fit in! Just let me exist! I felt consistently projected upon instead of *seen*. I came in, confident and empowered as usual, and left feeling worse. My favorite vogue teacher here only teaches advanced classes now and I'm looking to figure out how I can test into her class so I can continue having an autistic-friendly, enby-friendly voguing space again.

The pricing is on point with most child courses in the city. The location is really the stunner for me. The classes are priced similarly to other adult drop-in classes in the area. The studio is spacious and welcoming with incredibly clean studios and tidy bathrooms. We were greeted warmly by reception when we walked in. The class itself was not my favorite. Their classes are only an hour long rather than the traditional 90 minutes. Our teacher also did not teach this class at a beginner level. It was definitely more intermediate. Many students in the class were struggling to keep up, so it was frustrating that the teacher did not adapt instruction. My friend did ballet for 15 years growing up and even she was struggling to keep up in this class. If you are new to the studio, it might be worth calling to ask about levels. I wish I had, as the class was too hard to be enjoyable for me. Overall, I would like to try another class here, but I will either wait until a different teacher is available for beginner ballet or I will come back in a few years when I'm at more of an intermediate level.

She clearly had favorites (we weren't one), and we observed her not even address my daughter despite her running toward her yelling her name out of excitement in class. Sure, you might have a couple favorite kids, but never show it. It got to the point that my daughter made comments to my wife and I at home that "Ms. Nicole won't say hi to me." For anyone with young kids or had young kids, for a 3 year old to say this, it must be a pattern of behavior. It broke our hearts. And to cap off the experience, the night of the recital, my wife and I admit we forgot to pay the remaining balance with everything else going on in our lives (expecting baby #2 in 3 weeks to name the biggest). Nicole greeted my wife and mother-in-law in quite possibly the rudest and most disrespectful way imaginable...."I don't have time for this tonight. She can't come in until you pay!" Thankfully we had enough cash to pay, but she released our tickets the day before and would have sent us home for an oversight we clearly were willing to pay. She caused a scene, and it was completely out of line. Her tone, demeanor, attitude, and overall treatment of people she doesn't care for is unbelievably disappointing and unfortunate. Not to mention, the lack of organization at the recital, the lack of food and drinks for young kids, etc. was all shocking (it was from 4-7p). Wouldn't recommend it to anyone.

She teaches a well organized class that covers dance basics in a fun and creative way. The location is super convenient - big parking lot with a Dominics, Old Navy, Marshalls and Starbucks in easy walking distance! The facilities are great and well kept. The business is run smoothly, efficiently, and the communication is fantastic! I never feel like I wasn't notified about something or that I'm out of the loop! I would highly recommend Collective Dance to anyone wanting to put their child into a dance class. What a positive, nurturing and loving place for a little one to learn to creatively express themselves!

The teacher had the kids sign a contract about commitment, teamwork etc (cool!) my daughter took it super seriously bc she's like that. The teacher himself then proceeded to come late or not show up at class at all (no notice or group txt would even come from dovetail after the fact- we just show up and it would empty the majority of times. After months of this they gave us a $100 credit and 1 email about it. They transitioned it to a new teacher who was really dependable. They told my daughter they "thought we would place in top 10, like 6 or Better." My daughter is type of person who latches onto that so when they didn't place, she felt it more Than needed. It was clear her time at park district (McFeteridge) brought out waaaaay more talent and she grew waaaay more there and with very strong routines. Great artistry from Dovetail tho. Teachers were nice. They txtd us during paid sessions they wanted to walk the kids to 7-11 instead of class time. The other families were nice and we vibed with them- not competitive etc. did pizza with them couple times over year. my wife took a class at dovetail for adults and loved it. My daughter had classes (not completion) that went well and she really loved all the teachers.
