After living in Bristol for over a year, I never had the opportunity to visit Caron Jewelers…read morebecause every time I walked downtown, usually on a Sunday afternoon, they were closed. But today, they were open!
As soon as I walk in, I pick up a postcard on the side table advertising a trunk show on Dec 12th of rare earth, semi precious gemstone jewelry - think agates and drusy. For the last few weeks, I have been searching online for this exact kind of jewelry to gift my mother. Diane, one of the owners, notices my interest and beckons me over to the display case of these beautiful pieces. On close look, my jaw drops! The pendants, necklaces, and earrings are all so beautiful! Over the next 45 minutes to an hour, Diane patiently shows me the Rare Earth pieces, taking them out of the display case to give me a closer look and explanations of the types of stones each piece is made of. Because the stones are all unique, each piece is one-of-a-kind. Some of the pieces are more like wearable sculptures rather than jewelry. I could have stared and admired them all day!
She then gives me a tour of the other items they carry, including fine jewelry, pearls, watches, vintage consignment pieces, and even pottery made by a RISD graduate. But my favorite items are the Rare Earth pieces, and Diane is so nice and welcoming to me as a drool over the shiny, sparkly, swirling stones that I can't tear my eyes away from.
If you are in the Bristol area, definitely visit this store. Even if you are not into rare earth gemstone jewelry, they have a great collection of unique pieces. Now, my goal is to save up enough money so that on December 12th, when I attend the Rare Earth Trunk Show (from 2-7pm by the way), I can get something special not only for my mother, but for myself as well!
