If you're not local and don't know about red carpet, you may be a little taken aback on first…read morevisit. This is definitely a dive bar but a beloved dive bar to the locals. The decor is what it is and we don't mind. It is pretty much the only place in Charleston that has an outdoor patio and a rather large one at that. It is also dog-friendly on the patio. Thursday nights in the summer they have a grill night and offer your choice out of two meat options and comes with a couple sides. Very delicious and very reasonably priced. FYI, if you're interested in eating on Thursdays, you should call them in the afternoon to reserve your meal as they usually are reserved up pretty quickly. It's not something you can arrive at the bar and just order. They sponsor the local kickball league so you'll often see young folks in their team T-shirt's hanging out on the patio after the game. You'll see a diverse mix of people at this bar and it's definitely a safe bar to imbibe at. The drinks are very inexpensive compared to anywhere else. Great spot! Locals approved!

You could hear the crickets outside calling plays. Honestly, the quiet was perfect; it meant I could fully enjoy my existential dread without background noise. Overall .... good and clean

2/23/21 Man this place brings back memories…read more..  I am sure I meantioned this place in one of my reviews about Marshall University. If I didn't,  then let's take a trip back down memory lane. Many years...now decades ago I was a young 18 year old kid who wasn't as open minded about gay rights or gays in general.    Why?  It wasn't something I was really exposed to.  I smile now adays on how much I was exposed to it and just didn't see things for what they are.  Its is amazing on what you see on tv or by word of mouth and to some degree you might believe. This until you are bitchslapped (had to use that word ladies) back into reality.   I had heard of sexual acts going on at my old high school (which at the time was an all male school), but that was between two students that wanted sex. It had nothing to do with me so why be grossed out or afraid? Fast forward to the night I was with a friend who had to stop by Stonewall for some reason. I was a little hesitant to want to go in there. Why? All of the things I had heard about being sexual assaulted and other ludicrous thoughts going through my head. Well I pulled my head out of my ass and went with the flow. As we approached the club, we saw several women walking towards the club. These women were actually men dressed up as women. Some men did a better job looking like women then others, but that is besides the point...no...not really.   Why? Because as things turned out, tonight's agenda happened to be a drag queen contest and some of the men I saw just flat out failed to look like women.  Nevertheless,  they were up there having fun and that in the long run is what really mattered.  The building for this club is not very big, but it was packed with students who came to have a good time.  I did not notice the first time I was there, but the second and third time I went back, I noticed more straight men where there having a great time at the club.  Marshall University had several clubs, but the only other one I can think of is The Wild Dawg. I don't know rigjt now if this place is still around. Nevertheless,  Stonewall ended up being the best place to go have some fun and drink beer. Many of the other clubs I had visited had nothing on Stonewall.   I was quickly set free of bullshit theories about LGBTQ community.  My mind was more welcoming to all lifestyles...is that the right word?...I don't think so...I will say I keep an open mind now.   Looking back, my friends, family, classmates, employees and bosses have all had someone who was a member of the LGBTQ.  More importantly,  some of them felt comfortable to confide in me they were gay.  I am happy later on they came out and stopped hiding who they are.  It wouldn't have happened without the friendship of others who they trusted.   I am seriously digressing here, but I am happy to say I was proud to be able to have had a hand where gay marriage was accepted in all 50 states. Back on track, Stonewall had two sections where you could dance, but I normally shook my ass on center stages. I was once asked if I was gay or straight by a guy, but sadly he was let down that I wasn't gay.  Still, he would have wanted to hook up with me if I were gay.  Cool:)  Going to the Stonewall to dance helped get rid lot of problems I was having at school.   Who would have thought that a Gaybar could be so much fun...hell, it's in the first words right there.         Gay: "The word gay arrived in English during the 12th century from Old French gai, most likely deriving ultimately from a Germanic source. In English, the word's primary meaning was "joyful", "carefree", "bright and showy", and the word was very commonly used with this meaning in speech and literature." This club  will always have a special place in my heart. Because it changed me from a homophobe to a open minded person in one night.  About the only thing that wasn't appealing  on my first experience to the club are the bathrooms.  The bathrooms were messy and I experienced my first smell of weed. (Check out my review on Noble Gas for story) This first hand experience changed me too, but that is another story. As packed as the club was on that day, I can understand why it was messy.  All in all this place is a 5 star club from when I was here last.

I as an older cross dresser go to the Stonewall club cross dressed and I have always been accepted…read moreand had great interactions with the staff, drag queens from the drags shows and other guests. The music is a little loud and the parking lot is very tight are my only complaints. I sincerely enjoy my time there as Willa and please say hi to me if you see me there. Sincerely, Willa
