They started tearing off on a Friday but stopped. This wouldn't have been a bad thing but that was one the numerous freak winter weekends we were having, and the ridge caps had been removed and replaced with a flimsy piece of aluminum that blew off by the next day exposing the roof underlay to the weather. Looking at their work the ridge caps were all uneven and look like a sloppy mess and most of the flashing wasn't done right including bent eaves troughing not properly adhered to the house. Following their work and attempt at a cleanup they left a lot of shingle residue and nails and were asked to go over it again with the roller magnet. We were out for a couple of days finding roofing material all around our house and neighbors. There has been no follow up or inspection as of 6 weeks from completion and we were assured that a thorough inspection would be done to ensure the quality of the workmanship. We were also promised eaves trough cleaning upon completion and found that it was not done with multiple nails and tar build up.

They all, with one exception, assured me that they would look at the job "next week". Of course, I'm still waiting for those roofers. The exception was A2Z Roofing, who looked at the job the same week and provided a written estimate the next week. To help us decide, they provided pictures of the shingles as well as the manufacturer so we were able to see the colour and quality of their work. Within a week of accepting the estimate, A2Z finished the job and cleaned up in an afternoon. They gave plenty of warning so we could get the car out of the garage. They even cleaned inside the garage to ensure that there weren't any nails for my tires to roll over when I put my car back in the garage. I appreciate A2Z responding when others didn't and I appreciated the personal care they gave us on our small renovation.

I am glad my instincts were correct, because when I hired Kayne Kempton (Canadian Contractor Services) I expected good work, but I think I just got the best contractor in town! The work was finished in good time, and, especially with my feature wall, I was very surprised to see that the end product was so good, I could not see any markings left from the patch work! Ardent Roofing was one of the first to show up on a Google search, and the company's website looked professional and trustworthy. We obtained a quote which had good pricing compared to a few of the other companies we seeked out, and was actually cheaper than some other roofing companies. We had narrowed our choices down to two companies, Ardent Roofing and Rapid Roofing & Renovations. I asked both companies for references from previous satisfied customers, so that I could verify their workmanship before taking on such a large project. A man named Murl responded to me quite rudely that they "have lots of good references" but refused to give me any and just ended it at that (rude, short email), and told me I had better book with them now otherwise I won't get an appointment secured for the spring, as they get very busy. It was completely unprofessional and rude, and they clearly didn't want our business, because they were willing to give up a $15,000 project for a re-roof of house, garage, fascia, soffits and eaves - just because I asked them to provide references. I have never come across a home renovations company before that refused to provide references, so I find this really strange, and it is clearly just bad business tactics. Rapid Roofing, on the other hand, provided us with five references of the last five houses they re-roofed, and all of them gave us fantastic reviews, and some even gave me their addresses, so I could pop by and have a look at what a good job they did. It's a shame that one person representing what seems to be an otherwise successful company just ruined a job and lost the company out on thousands. If you're going to do a re-roof, I'd suggest going with Rapid Roofing (they also have a 10 year workmanship warranty and 25 year roof warranty, along with higher quality shingles).

They are truly a company with integrity and I would have no problems referring them to a friend.
