This gets a little confusing (not really, but just in case), so please bare with me.
I adopted my new, precious, eight week old, angel-kitten who I named Loki, from Petsmart. But Petsmart doesn't actually do the adoptions, they go through animal shelters. It's a really good deal, especially taking into consideration how horribly some young pets are treated.
So, I adopted this kitten and filled out all of the paper work for both Petsmart and A.C. PAW. I was surprised, no, shocked, no, horrified, even, to find out that my young male kitten had already been neutered. It took me quite a while to get over this. The adoption volunteer explained that agencies were now fixing their kittens at as little as seven weeks and two pounds, for fear that the owners would never do it.
Now, when I adopted my first kitten, Frost, they (Petsmart) included the neuter, at the appropriate age, at a vet of choice, right in the adoption fee. And at five months, and a few pounds I did have fixed. And I feel much more comfortable with that arrangement.
Now, while I am glad this place is taking the precautions that they are able I am less than pleased with the fact that they seem to be disregarding potential future health risks.
I would also like to mention that my vet did not agree with this strategy, but commented that it is the new "fad."
Jezuz, that makes me sick. read more
