Where do I even begin…read more... If your Ex hired a lawyer in El Dorado county with a name that rhythms with "Smessa Layer" DO NOT HIRED THEM. I honestly think they work together going back and forth just to rake up their clients bills. Not to mention, if they go to court for you, they charge each client for the court hearing an hourly fee only to give you 10 min of their time. I hired Luke to finish up my divorce once my ex's lawyer decided to ask for my retirement information. At this point, I was 85% done with my divorce. I had filed papers on my own, requested a settlement date, applied for spousal support, etc (payed all of that out of pocket). I had even come to an agreement with my ex. Things had transpired between us and the agreement was no longer a 'go' so I called Luke with the expectations of his solely getting me a divorce, I.e, write up an agreement stating that my ex keeps his things and I keep mine (which would have worked for both parties). Originally I was quoted $7500 as a retained and was told verbatim by Luke "we usually do $10000 for a retainer, but since you are almost done, $7500 should be more than enough". Halfway through I had to pay $3500 more and they ended up charging me close to $1000 over that on my final bill. For a simple settle agreement that I was forced to go to court for. I set them up with one need- a settlement agreement and it took months and thousands of dollars to get it.

The only remaining item was a distribution of the IRA. It has been 5 months and we've sent 20+ emails and phone messages with only one returned call 3 months ago. I understand busy, but that is simply neglectful. Just a returned phone call with some explanation would have made the difference. As it is, there will be tax consequences if this is not settled before the end of the year, and we live in San Diego now so dropping by his office to find out what's going on is not an option. 7/15/2016: A very honest and hardworking family law attorney, which is pretty tough to find in El Dorado county. He is reasonably priced, answers the phone, and gives it to you straight. It took a year and $65,000 to another attorney who was actually worse than self-representation to find Brad. He has worked hard, and been up front, and a breath of fresh air in a place even the Bar Association has classified as one of the worst counties in California to find fair representation.

Been 5-6 months going to xourt for my daughter and right before court i get a call from a different attorney daying brad is no longer my pointed attorney. The system is set for us good people to get skewered over and lose the ones we love.. i should of been my own attorney probably had a better chnace to get my daughter back. Just how i feel about any attorneys in placerville area.
