I cannot say enough good things about A Baby Step Adoption. Some highlights: 1. Startup. When we first signed with them they did a great tutorial covering what to expect, costs, timeframe, things to consider, etc. It was incredibly informative and a great way to kick off the relationship. 2. Birthmother matching. I love the way they transparently match birthmothers with potential adoptive couples. They send out birthmother profiles to all clients currently looking for a match. If you think you're a good fit for the situation you tell ABSA to submit your profile to the birthmother. Then the birthmothers looks through all of the profiles and chooses an adoptive couple. Then you have at least one mediated introductory conversation before both parties decide if they're a good match for each other. It's an anxiety-producing experience but ABSA made us comfortable. 3. The pregnancy. We were matched with our birthmother when she was four months along. ABSA did a great job working with the birthmother and providing us with information. We ran into a few difficulties with our birthmother along the way, but ABSA went above and beyond to ensure that she and we were comfortable with everything that was happening. 4. The birth. ABSA was at the hospital as soon as the baby was born and acted as an excellent representative for both us and the birthmother in the hospital environment. They also did an amazing job shepherding all of the paper work and other items that are required in this situation. 5. Finalization. ABSA made it very clear what we had to to prepare for the finalization process. And on the finalization day we had an excellent experience at the courthouse. They've also continued to check in with us to see how everything's going. Final thoughts: when it comes to something as important as adoption, you want to work with people who you can trust, who are experienced, and who are professionals. ABSA is all of those things and more. They made what could have been a very chaotic and anxiety-filled experience something that we'll always remember fondly, and it was the perfect preface and first chapter for life with our amazing daughter. When we are ready to adopt again we will be going right back to ABSA. I cannot recommend them highly enough. read more

If anyone is considering adoption, they are silly not to use A Baby Step Adoption (ABSA.) When I started down this road of adoption, I initially signed up with another agency and thought I was out in left field for a long time. I learned of ABSA and once I met with Barbara and Liz, I knew it was the place for me. They were thorough from start to end. Letting me know the finances, the matching process, etc. The networking emails you receive from the agency is what I think stands them apart from the others. You have the ability to request your profile be presented to the birth mother. In short order, I was matched with my first birthmother and unfortuantely experienced a failure (to NO fault of ABSA!) They were wonderful in helping me heal and once I was ready again, I was matched with another birth mother and happy to say I am the proud mom of a 17 month old son who has changed my life. Everyone does their research on adoption before taking the first step, but A Baby Step is the right place to be. read more

We had a wonderful adoption experience with A Baby Step Adoption. When we began the process with A Baby Step they gave us a helpful overview of what to expect, how the finances worked, how to put together a profile, etc. We were paired with a caseworker immediately who was always there to answer our questions throughout the process. We were really happy with their birthmother networking system--instead of the traditional waiting list model both the birthmother and prospective parents could see the profiles and choose a situation that best fit their needs. We were matched with a birthmother very quickly and although there were some bumps in the road during the process, A Baby Step was there for us the entire time. Our daughter was born in August and officially adopted in December. Barbara and her team made the legal adoption process seamless and we couldn't be happier. We have successfully adopted two children through A Baby Step Adoption and couldn't be happier with our experience. The agency helped us through every step and made the process pretty easy compared to everything else we had been through! We were matched with our first birthmother pretty early on and had a perfectly healthy baby boy about two months later. We agreed to adopt another child from the same birthmother a year later, but that adoption failed and Barbara and her staff were then there to help us through the tough time. When we were ready to adopt again, we had just begun the search and were matched with another birthmother immediately. We now have two healthy happy children.
