It certainly wasn't quiet but we had no difficulty having a conversation. As we finished off there were even more people waiting to get in. There are big screen TV's that featured a football game. I ordered the Cod Tacos with a side salad for $15.99. They were quite filling even though they're probably one of the lowest cost items on the menu. There is lots of parking and it's easy to find as its right on the TransCanada Highway. If you don't mind waiting for a table you'll probably enjoy a meal here. It's pretty much a chicken place (with a few exceptions such as my cod tacos) and if your okay with that then you'll find something to satisfy your hunger at Jungle Jim's.

I had seen some favorable reviews on this restaurant, so when I finished my shopping, I went in for a quick lunch. I'm really glad that I did. I ordered a simple lunch of the Newfoundland split pea soup and a bologna sandwich. I really like split pea soup and their version was one of the best that I've had. It was chocked full of seasoning pork, carrots and as a bonus, a big dumpling was located in the middle of the bowl. The bologna sandwich took me back to my childhood days, as not many places these days offer bologna as an option. The bologna itself had a very good flavor and the sandwich was fixed very much like a BLT, with lettuce, tomato and mayo. Based on my experience here, one should at least give this place a try and if I happen to be back in the gander area again, I certainly will be back.

Let's run away to Gander and Get Mary'd!!!…read more Funny story. I was visiting St. John's for a few weeks. I'd tried to make plans with a dear friend of mine but our schedules seemed to be in conflict. Then while travelling the province enroute to The Change Islands, we decide we'd not had enough Mary Brown's since we'd been on the island, and therefore it was the perfect destination for lunch. Who should we run into in the Gander Mary Browns? My friend from St. John's entire fam damily! Bumped into my friend's sister in the hallway by the bathroom. Screamed so loud when we saw each other that people in the restaurant thought I was being murdered. I was so excited to see her I couldn't even remember her name!!! And guess where they are headed? The same tiny community we were..... A twist of fate that could only be experienced by Newfoundlanders. (It's a small world after all.....) Seemed like fate brought us here. That and hunger. Fueled up to continue our journey with a Big Mary meal complete with their famous seasoned wedge fries and salads. The kiddlywinks ate the wedgie poutine - many thumbs up. On our return through the area a week later we stopped in again. No chance encounters on that day - just great chicken, wedgie poutine and salads, and fast service.

When you walk in there is a door chime that sounds for the staff in the back to know when customers come in. I waited 5 mins and still no one came to the counter. I could see a guy in the back so I know SOMEONE was working there. He did not even look towards the counter during 5 minutes. So I rang the bell on the counter. No response from him at all. I waited another 5 minutes then called out to him a hello. No acknowledgement. So I rang the bell again. Still no response. I don't have time for staff that ignore paying customers, so I turned to leave. Finally after 15 minutes, he WANDERED toward the counter, I told him not to bother and left. Very disappointing experience here!

This place is definitely the small town diner ambiance and you could tell most people knew one another. We came right at lunch and it was busy but we still only waited 5-10 min for a table. We were served right away and the server was patient with us when we changed our minds a bit choice wise. We had the special which was a chicken wrap and a turkey wrap both with soup. The food came out quickly, was fresh and the soup very flavorful! Our waters were kept full and the server was so sweet to our little girl and even gave her a special cookie treat. We had hoped to try the famous "moose farts" but they didn't have any that day sadly. So we "settled" for the chocolate dipped peanut butter cookies that will remain a staple in our minds as one of the top cookies ever! Great stop for lunch for sure!

Heather, Donald and Angie (and the rest of the staff) are exceptional representatives of this restaurant company. Our son has anaphylactic allergies to dairy and nuts, and Swiss Chalet's excellent allergy program means it's the ONLY restaurant we know about that he can safely eat at in Canada. On our first visit about a month ago, the staff accommodated over our 30 hockey players and parents with less than 2 hours notice, allowing our son to safely eat in a restaurant with his hockey team for the 1st time ever. Our server Heather and manager Don were exceptional and attentive hosts, and our family and team were sincerely grateful. On our 2nd visit yesterday, we were lucky to be served by Heather again, and she remembered our son's allergy AND HIS ORDER from over a month ago! We are so impressed and thankful to these wonderful people for their outstanding professionalism and incredible customer service. The food was, as always, excellent and the service was authentic, genuine, and first rate. We highly recommend the Gander Swiss Chalet/Harvey's; exceptional people should be recognized and celebrated for the value they add to their patrons and their company. My son said he doesn't remember his first Swiss Chalet meal, but that he will never forget this meal, because of the service. Thank you from us all.

Google)…read more Conveniently located near the 330, I figured it would be our best option before heading up to Twillingate for the day. The breakfast and lunch options are prominently displayed on the menu by the counter, but the top item drew both my attention and hunger - the touton breakfast sandwich. Coming with the standard egg, bacon and cheese in a split touton. There's a "mega" version that comes with another touton stacked into/onto the regular version, with an added sausage patty, but I stuck to the base version. We grabbed our coffees (serve yourself from carafes) and sat down to wait for my food. My wife snagged a piece of carrot cake and it was top notch - wonderfully light, fluffy and moist and the delicious cream cheese icing, was, uh, the icing on the cake. Sorry, I had to! It wasn't long before my food was before me. The touton got the sandwich press treatment, with the griddle's indentations readily apparent in the touton. The exterior was lightly crisp from this, and the dough was pleasantly chewy. The bacon was good and crisp , and the fried egg and cheese slice combined for some breakfasty goodness. The home fries were not as expected, as they seemed to be from-frozen french fries that came with an herbal seasoning. But hey, it worked, and they were good enough for my wife to steal a bunch of them! To our deep regret, we won't yet be home for a few days, so getting some of the very tempting breads or sweets did not seem prudent, but I hope that GBB knows that we really, REALLY wanted to. The Bread Box's inglorious strip mall location belies what an asset they are to the town, but judging from the mid-morning crowd there, Gander already knows.
