If I could give this zero stars, I would! Hiring American Quality Moving LLC for our move was the…read moresingle worst decision we've ever made. They advertise as a professional, veteran-owned business with 14 years of experience, claiming to be fully insured and committed to exceeding customer expectations. None of these claims hold true. Red Flags Before the Move Even Started The issues began when a rented U-Haul truck arrived at our door instead of the professional, branded truck prominently displayed on their website. This was not what we expected from a company claiming professionalism. Prior to their arrival, my wife spoke with Ashley Duffin, who reassured us that our packing estimate was fine and that they "account for a specific number of boxes per room." However, once the team arrived, it became clear that there was no plan, and they were unprepared for the job. Unprofessional Conduct and Incompetent Crew Rick, the owner, arrived with two workers, neither of whom appeared to have any professional moving experience. At one point, Rick boasted in front of us about his personal life, bragging about how he "only pays $80 a week in child support" while taking $45,000 from his ex-wife's retirement. This wildly inappropriate behavior in a customer's home reflected his complete lack of professionalism and character. The Move Descends into Chaos What should have been a straightforward move from a two-bedroom apartment to a house turned into a disaster. Despite having a 26' truck capable of moving a larger home, it was packed so inefficiently that they couldn't fit half of our belongings. At the new house, they dumped all our belongings in the garage instead of placing them in the correct rooms as promised. I started moving boxes myself to speed things up, only for Rick to tell me to stop because they would handle it. He then abruptly announced he had to leave for Pennsylvania, wished us "congratulations on the house," and left us with his girlfriend's teenage son to finish the job. This individual was clearly unqualified and physically incapable of helping with the remaining heavy lifting. By 8:15 PM, the team had finally departed from the apartment. It was raining, and the truck was still over 85% full. My furniture was thrown haphazardly into the truck, with no regard for damage. Extortion Tactics Around 9:30 PM, I tried calling Ashley multiple times but received no response. Instead, I got a Zelle request for full payment, with no explanation or confirmation that the job was complete. When I refused to pay without speaking to someone, they held the rest of our belongings hostage. After 30 minutes, Rick called back, showing his true colors. He immediately blamed us, claiming we provided inaccurate information and had "250 boxes," which was a laughable exaggeration. He insisted we had caused the issues and demanded additional payment. At this point, I had no choice but to pay the ransom to avoid a confrontation in my new neighborhood. Payment Issues and Lack of Transparency Adding to the frustration, the company would only accept payment through Zelle or Cash App, claiming that their "state-of-the-art software" was down and they couldn't process credit cards. This felt extremely unprofessional and suspicious, further underscoring their shady practices. Extensive Damages Once we inspected our belongings, we found significant damage: Couches: Torn, stained with dirt and grime. Dining room table: Scratched and gouged. Dining hutch: Cracked. Various other items were damaged due to improper packing and handling. Unresponsive and Dishonest Post-Move When I tried to contact Ashley to request an invoice, receipt, certificate of insurance, and the procedure for filing a damage claim, I was completely ignored. Calls, texts, and emails went unanswered. To make matters worse, their response to the Better Business Bureau was to deny that we were ever their customers, a blatant lie to avoid accountability. Conclusion This company's lack of professionalism, accountability, and integrity is unacceptable. As first-time homeowners, this was supposed to be a joyous milestone, but it was marred by the disastrous service of American Quality Moving LLC. To anyone considering hiring this company--DON'T. If you've had a similar experience, please report them to the following agencies: Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) Public Utilities Commission (PUCO) Internal Revenue Service (IRS) Attorney General (AG) Veteran-Owned Small Business (VOSB) Department of Veteran Affairs (VA), including their Office of Inspector General (OIG). Rick Catlett and Ashley Duffin should not be allowed to continue deceiving customers under this or any other business name. If you'd like assistance filing complaints, feel free to reach out to me at vanikg0702@gmail.com. Let's hold this company accountable. Avoid this company at all costs!
