My wife and sister-in-law arranged for a photo session in July of 2013 for their mother's birthday…read moregift, as the entire family would be spending a week in OC NJ and it seemed like a great photo opportunity. When the whole gang showed up at the appointed place and time- 3rd street- we were met by a really nice high school kid who held us for 20 minutes while he tried to contact the lead photographer and find out where she was and when she would arrive. With 9 smallish, impatient kids and a larger, impatient father-in-law, we tried to help this kid buy more time, but eventually he gave up and proceeded to take the pictures himself. I certainly have nothing against high school students apprenticing, learning, helping out...but this wasn't our expectation. Through it all, he was professional, kind, accommodating, and genuinely tried...while some photos were great, other pictures came out with shadows on faces, sun at the wrong angle, and other issues that should not be present on a professional photo shoot. Certainly not his fault...he did his best under the circumstances. The post photo-shoot didn't go so well. My sister-in-law had to make repeated calls to keep the process moving, and it wasn't until November that we finally were sent the photos on a flash drive. I really don't like leaving negative responses on yelp, but we didn't have a great experience. I'm just one client- and I hope others yelp with more positive experiences- but a $450 photo shoot is a lot more disappointing than a poor $2.50 Frappuccino!

While searching online for family beach portraits for a project, I came across some photos that…read morewere absolutely gorgeous. The light, the clarity, and the compositions were stunning. The colors were vivid and rich; reminded me of a Maxfield Parrish painting. I assumed they had to be from a company in California; the light and backgrounds were that stunning. I was thrilled to discover that it was a photographer not from the Avalon in California, but the Avalon right here in New Jersey! Shortly thereafter, my husband had the idea to give his parents a birthday present of a family beach portrait. I knew EXACTLY who to call. From day one, both Jeannie and Chuck were professional and friendly. Their website is very well laid out and easy to navigate. All costs are listed, so the customer understands what the investment entails. Jeannie photgraphed our family which included multi-generations and two dogs. There were small groups to photograph as well as the entire group. We can be a goofy group and her unflagging patience and pleasant personality made the entire process fun! When it was time to review the proofs, the entire process takes place in an online meeting. I spoke with Chuck on the phone while he went through the photos which showed on my computer screen. There was one I liked but needed to be cropped; no problem. Actually, the only problem I encountered was how to narrow down the selections...there was one great picture after the other! Chuck was extremely helpful, friendly and patient while I asked questions and made decisions. The pictures arrived carefully and thoroughly packaged. We lined them up and "ooohhhhed" and "aaaahhhhed" in admiration. My husband's parents just could not get over how beautiful these portraits turned out. The entire family was completely impressed! When I took all of the pictures to be framed, the reaction from the woman behind the counter was priceless! "WHO did these pictures?!?!?" I told her that it was Avalon Art Photography, and her response was, "I frame alot of these beach portraits from all over the area, and these are the best I've ever seen!" Well-deserved praise! Our portraits have graced our walls since last fall. They bring us immeasurable joy. Jeannie and Chuck will always hold a special place in our hearts for their professional, top-quality work as well as being nice people to work with.
