What a surprise this store turned out to be.
This is actually a shop owned by a Mennonite family. Now I didn't grow up in Southern Alberta, I had no idea what a Mennonite was when I came here, I'm still a little puzzled, but I'm figuring it out.
The reason I ventured in is that many of the Mennonites here are from Mexico, so I figured they might have some Mexican treats. Well holy frjoles, do they ever! The have a great selection of hispanic foods, even several types of tortillas presses. A great selection of sauces and even locally sourced meats.
Additionally, they have a wide variety of German products, hand crafted furniture and sewing supplies. Yes, sewing supplies .Many traditional Mennonite women make their own dresses.
Hanging on the wall were some weird clocks. I didn't understand why they were there, and their presence confused me. They were really tacky.
If you're in Taber check it out. I'll be back there soon. read more
