I thought that was the end of the price hike...I was wrong they now have hiked it up to $158.50. I called management bc 1 I was not made aware of the price change. it was ridiculous that I had this many price increases for nothing. nothing has changed I was still in the same unit. when I called management they said they sent a letter to notify me(they did not) and the best they could do was change the price to $138. not to mention they consider you late/over due on your due date. my due date is on the 23rd of each month and they considered me 1 day late when I went to pay on the 23rd. once they even put a lock on my unit I wasn't even 1 week late. Don't waste your time here look elsewhere!!

This review is about Extra Space as a corporation. It is not directed at the individuals that work…read moreat this facility, all of whom tried to be helpful. This corporation uses predatory practices to bait consumers in the door, offering exceptionally low rates at the start but later dramatically increasing those rates past fair market pricing. I'll provide my experience as an example. Searching other reviews, I can see I'm not the only one that's had a similar experience. I was a customer of Extra Space for 3+ years in total. In total, I ended up renting 3 units from them - two 10x15s and a 10x20. In all 3 cases, these were offered at low introductory rates with an increase in rent after some period of time, typically 3-5 months. I would not have an issue with this, as the intro rates were well below market pricing, but in every case where an increase was applied, the new rate was well above market pricing, and I would have to visit the office to question why. This in and of itself is predatory, as the corporate office is clearly hoping renters won't question the rate and will just pay the new overinflated price. This pattern repeated multiple times across all of my units over the course of my 3 years renting there. The change that finally prompted me to look elsewhere for my needs occurred this August 2025. My two 10x15 units were billing at different rates, with one at $91/mo on promo pricing and the other at $118/mo (not promo priced). I fully expected to see cheaper unit increase in price to match the non-promo priced unit, as this would be reasonable and that price is on par with the rates of other storage providers in my area. However, when I received the rate change notification, I was advised the cheaper 10x15 would be increasing to $165/mo! This is the going rate for 10x30 unit! I contacted the local office and staff on site was not able to adjust this price, so I reached out to the corporate office via phone. They refused to adjust this price and expected me to pay the additional ~35% markup on the second unit, providing NO justification for the dramatically higher price of one over the other. Customer service on the phone also clearly stated Extra Space's preference for "short-term" renters over those who stay put. It's worth noting that in my 3+ years renting here, I never had a late or missed payment. I never caused any trouble or drama at the facility. I never mistreated staff on site, even when I had to wait over an hour for someone to come address a broken gate at the facility. This corporation cares not at all about its customers, and they are clearly only interested in your money. Renters should steer clear of this company entirely, at this location and all of them across the country.

Due…read moreto the lack of security at the unit site, I left my lock on the unit even after moving my stuff out as I was afraid people would tamper with my unit. There are beer cans scattered in the wooded area behind the unit and it's often poorly lit so being a young female I refused to go to the unit alone to begin with. The day I was supposed to be out, I had a medical emergency in Syracuse, which I informed them of, and told them I would race back to the unit to get the lock off. When I did it was too late and they threatened sending my bill to collections for being a day late for a unit I was no longer using. I paid the bill just to find that they were renting out the unit, I PAID FOR, and there was a new lock on it. I would never recommend this company for storage. i never received a notice that they were renting out my unit either. I drove up and found another lock on my unit that I paid a full months worth of rent for. I did not get reimbursed for the rent either. I tried leaving a review on their website but apparently they only show the good ones.

I felt the cost was reasonable until I realized that I would be charged an administrative fee (half the cost of my unit). Additionally, I choose the Dix Ave location because of the cleanliness, however they tried to switch me to the Dix Ave location in Glens Falls. (That location is dirty and has a pest problem - rodents, I know family members who rented from that location). I received a notice that my rent will change in November. The last straw and the reason I will be leaving my contract is they want to randomly raise my rent $20+ dollars - I feel like this is a bait and switch (I got a nice, discounted price, with this price change, I am now paying the 'regular' price) - nice try PS. Thankfully I didn't move too much in, and I can leave easily. BEWARE!
