Came by and spoke to owner Jim very professional and honest, the door mirror for my BMW Z4 broke off, I went to just about every welding shop in the valley, everyone said it couldn't be welded, some said its aluminum, some said is zinc, some said is cast etc. Jim said "leave it here and see what I can do, I'll charge you $35" Came back next day, he had done his magic! I own a home in the Hollywood Hills that underwent a $2 million renovation in 2003. With four stories, it took a large investment and a great deal of attention to detail to get my place to look as great as it has. I have a wine cellar and an accompanying adjacent bar underneath which there have been a matching under-counter Sub Zero freezer and refrigerator. The freezer recently gave out and there was no comparable freezer available. As a result, I had to buy a different freezer that, instead of having a single door with a built-in handle, has two separate drawers that require panels and handles to go with them. The rest of the wine bar has beautiful, uniquely-designed custom-made handles made of steel with a brass finish. But when I contacted the original designer of the handles from back in 2003, he said that they only had the 4-inch version of the handles and that he wouldn't create matching 10-inch handles that would match the rest. That's where Jim came in. At first, Jim was dubious about being able to make handles that would match adequately. But with time and some conversation, Jim agreed to take on the task and wow, did he deliver! The handles are not an exact match, but they didn't have to be exact. And, unlike the originals, the new handles were made from real brass instead of from steel with a brass finish. His work was truly amazing and his price was really reasonable to get exactly what I had hoped for. Jim is a true craftsman and he is seriously creative. I plan to use A-1 Weldors for all my future projects that require his amazing talents. read more

I needed the risers on my custom pedalboard cut, but the company is in Maryland. Thanks to Yelp, I found A1 Welders, which was only 5 minutes from my house! I brought my risers, they took a quick look, and asked me if they could hold on to it and look at it in the morning. No problem. When they called and gave the estimate (fair, considering the work done), they asked if I could wait another day. While I preferred not to, I said what ever worked best. I wanted a bike rack for my Honda Goldwing and had some parts that could be fabricated. Jim not only fabricated the bike rack, but saw how the frame needed to be reinforced to handle the weight. He understood that towing a trailer is different from the downward pressure the bike would create on the tow hitch. That was 8 years ago, and it has worked great. When I got a new Honda, I went back to Jim to repeat that work on the new bike. He really knows what he is doing, and it work is great. P.S. I see that Kambiz M. wrote a bad review saying he marked up the job 300%. I also found out the guy asked for one weld on the phone, but brought in 3 times more work when he showed up. Not cool. I found A-1 on a google search. I just needed a stove grate repaired after it broke when I dropped it on the tile. The owner Jim, was so helpful and fixed my stove grate for a really respectable price. Then I asked him to make a custom grate for the opening that leads under my house. I gave him the measurements, we discussed it briefly and a couple of days later he called saying it was ready. Fits perfectly and looks perfect! My girlfriend needed the aluminum legs on her massage table to be shortened and cut down for ergonomic reasons. It wasn't something that a handyman could do, since it was a very hard aluminum that is used to craft aircraft parts. She was afraid to do it, since making any alterations to the table would void her warranty. But, she also didn't want to drop another $600 down for a shorter, custom made table. She took her table to a few places around town and they each quoted her nearly double the price that Andy quoted. She was very happy with the work he did and he gave a very fair rate. She says she wishes she'd had the work done a lot sooner. Call before you visit, since he's a one man operation. He seems to be there until 4pm on weekdays. I discover A-1 Welder on trusty old Yelp. I been searching for a welder nearly two years. I've red the positive comments about this place, so I had to give it try. I had this 30 year old commercial food steam table that needed to be repaired. The sneeze guard, legs, and the bottom burners were all the loose from 30 years of wear and tear. So, Jim the Master ninja Welder did fantastic job with it. He resurrected my steam table by welding all the loose parts together and giving it another 30 years of life. I just wish I knew about this place years ago. He would of save me the time and the run across LA county. Jim is one of those old school made in America welder that has that American talent that is forgotten. His work is so professional. This is as "boutique" as it gets in the welding business. When civilization finally crumbles to dust, Jim will be there welding it back together. Jim will gladly do the smallest of jobs with his honest, (if stressed-out) disposition, although you may have to wait because he is extremely busy all the time. Unfortunately, I cannot speak to the quality of their work. I tried giving a call to discuss a job at my place of work and he was needlessly very rude with me. I had to call three separate times just to get him to speak with me. The first time he answered, but then sent me to voicemail. The second time he interrupted me before I even finished introducing myself and said, "I'm not interested", then hung up on me. When he finally heard me out, it turns out they don't do mobile work. Fine, I understand that, but the whole interaction makes me wonder what happened to this guy to speak with me this way.
