This company is predatory. Stay away. I rented a U-Haul trailer on Saturday morning for $39 and was told it needed to be back early Sunday morning (despite them being closed from 5 Saturday until 8 Monday), and that I'd receive a text with after-hours instructions. When I clicked on the text it said it was expired and gave no further info. I brought the trailer back on Saturday evening and left it where I'd picked it up. I got an invoice Monday morning for $140. When I asked the reason I was told that I hadn't followed checkin procedures. There's just not enough space to explain the awful experience I had with A-1 Rental in Plainwell. At first they were friendly , but the second you complain about one thing they are the complete opposite. I rented a tent, tables, and chairs for my wedding which was on Saturday, June 24, 2017. The quality of their products are not worth the price you pay AT ALL. First off, they tried to deliver it 4 days before my wedding (Tuesday), when I told them, that day wouldn't work because the property still needed to be mowed, they called me back and said that they can leave the tables and chairs in the parking lot and still set up the tent and we can just mow underneath the tent, which in my opinion is incredibly rude to suggest. We met in the middle with them, and both parties agreed to set up being at 2pm on Thursday so my fiancée and I could both be present. I received a call on Thursday at 11 AM by a neighbor saying that they arrived at 9 AM and the tent was completely set up and they were packing up to leave. I immediately got on the phone to speak with someone and when I called, the owner basically said, "it's not my problem and there's nothing we can do about it." I then had to clock out and leave work and drive to the property site, only to find out that the tent was dirty, nasty, and drooping. On top of that they brought the wrong tables..... I had to call my fiancée and interrupt him at work to see if he could do something. My fiancée called the owner and we asked if the tent could be cleaned because it was absolutely filthy and had holes all over it and we asked for it to be set up the right way since not even an hour after it was set up it was falling apart. They had to come back 3 more times after that because there installers would not do their job properly the first or even second time (not to mention they brought an orange construction strap as one of the tent stake ropes while all the others were white talk about tacky and for a wedding?? I just found that ridiculous that they thought they could even get away with that) To continue, because of all the frustration and conflict we had to endure, we asked for a partial refund and they agreed to those terms as well as the ten to be cleaned. They sent two boys on Thursday evening around 6pm.. after work I went to see how the tent was looking, I told the boys that it looked better (still not as clean as what it should be since I paid over $1,300 for this service but it was two days before my wedding and this is what I was left with.) The next day (Friday, the day before our wedding) my fiancée called about the refund they replied, "We thought you did not want a refund anymore because you told the boys they did a good job." My fiancée told the owner he is still expecting a partial refund and the owner tried to push it off to Monday, but my fiancée insisted that it be immediate and drove to A-1 right away. When my fiancée arrived the owner would not even come out of his office and sent his wife instead, she snatched my fiancée's bank card out of his hand, slammed it back on the table, and threw a pen at my fiancée after all that she said, "you're lucky you dealt with Aaron, because if it were me you would not be getting any kind of a refund." Terrible experience with terrible people and I'm glad it is over with, I am telling EVERYONE to never go to A-1 Rentall. Also they left two ladders behind on our property and still do not know that they are missing and it has been nearly 3 weeks! Poor Business Management! *EDIT: They came back 4 months later to collect their ladders with no notice at all, we left one outside, in a hurry they thought they could grab their ladder and no one would notice, luckily someone saw them and tried to ask them what they were doing, they replied that they were getting their ladder, and then quickly got in their truck in left. If they had any business professionalism about them, they would have came and knocked on the door or called us, so we could tell them where their other ladder is at. Would not trust this owner to this business they lie and they will screw you if they can. Would not trust an employer that would fire someone that has sick kids at home during the Coronavirus!!!! Very bad work business ethics!!! Their equipment sucks and I wouldn't advise you to go this business especially for a wedding stuff cuz if you were to go inside and see where the dishes are sitting that you're supposed to eat off from.... Worst experience in my life! We thought we were renting a 20 by 80 frame tent, 17 60" tables and 10 high tops to be delivered Friday morning for a rehersal dinner and wedding. By noon Friday we had not seen them, called at 1 and they said they were on there way. They finally showed up and after about an hour they realized they had the wrong poles. They left, returned about 2 hours later with the right poles. Needless to say we did not use tent for rehearsal. Later that night we realized the tent was filthy. Covered in mud in spots. One of the top poles was not even connected to top support beam. We had to fix this ourselves because if there were any high winds people would have been hurt. Later that night we realized they sent 8 high tops and two small low tables. One of the 60" round tables was broken. The tent itself was not secured down. Sagging in the middle. So we called first thing Saturday morning. They sent someone out. I think he brought a new table and left. Fixed nothing else. We never saw them again The venue person told us it was not a frame tent that they sent. I will NEVER USE A1 RENTAL in Plainwell Michigan ever again and I hope you will not either! read more

Recently I used their services to rent basically a venue (tent, chairs... ect) for our outdoor wedding and they were awesome to work with! Very helpful in planning what you need and making a million changes before hand. Definitely an A+! read more

A-1 Rental in Plainwell Michigan did not fulfill their contract and left large tent, 2 port potties, tables, chairs, bar etc. For 3+ days beyond when they were supposed to pick up. This greatly and detrimentally impacted guest enjoyment of vacation home rental property where they left items. Prior guest who contracted with A-1 with correct pick up date during their stay did everything right. A-1 cannot be trusted to perform as needed, and dont provide a phone number they can be reached at after hours or in event of emergency. A1 equipment left on my property and they are unresponsive for a third day in a row. Do not use this company unless if you want to be let down. read more

Recently rented a tent, tables and chairs for a wedding rehearsal dinner by speaking to the owner in person. They were to set up tent, we had to do tables and chairs. When the crew arrived the morning of they informed my wife that set-up of the tent was not included, but she could pay them cash and they would do. I called A-1 and the woman there said that was not allowable, she would bill my card $50, which she did. The set-up was done, but we had to adjust to make it look right. Tent was dirty and musty smelling, which one of the deliverers said they hear a lot. Chair seats were stuck to frames and had to be wiped down. I called the owner on Monday and he told me that I shouldn't have been billed, after I told him the $50 was going to buy him a lot of negative advertising. He said he would credit my card immediately, as we had originally paid for set-up. The credit has never shown up. I would definitely recommend looking elsewhere for your rental needs, as what you get is not what you expect and their customer service is terrible. Plus it's hard to tell if the whole "pay us cash" thing is a planned scam or a one-off type thing. read more
