These guys are great. Jonathan came out to assess a problem I had with a possible dead animal under the house as my tenants were smelling a foul odor. He was quickly able to determine that the smell was not coming in from under the house and that it was coming from behind a wall or a cabinet. I really appreciate that he informed me that if it's a mouse it'll stop smelling in one or two weeks or if it's a rat it will completely stop smelling within three or four weeks. This really helped the situation for me because I now know the odor will dissipate and there's no other action I need to take because it doesn't make sense for me to start ripping holes in my walls to try to find where it is when it's going to stop stinking potentially before I would finish doing all of that expensive work to my walls! Although, I didn't end up needing to actually hire them to extract a dead animal, I sure do appreciate how quickly Jonathan got over to assess the situation and his call to explain everything to me. On June 26, 2025, I signed up for monthly service after a positive interaction with the company representative. From the start, I was clear that I expect a high standard of care and that I would speak up if the job wasn't done to my satisfaction. I was assured that all spider webs -- including those on the house and patio furniture -- would be removed, and that treatment would include spraying for insects, fleas, snails, and whiteflies. One rat bait station was also to be placed in my cellar. However, during the first treatment several days later, this promise was not fulfilled. After the technician left, I found many webs still in place. I was also disturbed to see that a visibly dirty, wet web catcher had been used, leaving brown smudges on the eaves and siding of my home. In addition, I saw no sign that bait had been placed in the cellar. On July 14, I submitted a message through A-1's website outlining these concerns, canceling the 12-month service, and requesting to pay only for the first treatment without being charged the $350 cancellation fee. Apparently, the message was never received. Then, on the morning of July 17 at 9:15 a.m., I was startled to find someone on my front porch -- with no prior notice or appointment. I heard my front door open slightly (it must not have fully latched), and my dogs began barking. I was still in my bathrobe and, through the kitchen window, saw a web catcher. When I stepped outside, the technician introduced himself as the owner's nephew. I tried to explain my dissatisfaction and asked whether they had received my message. However, I was repeatedly interrupted, and he refused to listen. He dismissed my concerns, wouldn't acknowledge the smudges, and declined to view the areas I was referencing. Instead, he focused solely on the contract, insisting I couldn't cancel without paying $350 -- later reducing it to $200. When I didn't back down, he remarked, "You were so nice the first time we were here -- you're a completely different person this time." He also claimed I had told his uncle I planned to power wash the eaves, so he didn't believe the smudges were a problem. I clarified that any power washing was something I considered before signing up for their service, not after -- and that my attempts to hose the stains off had failed. I was treated with condescension and a power-based attitude, with no regard for customer satisfaction. I felt unsafe and disrespected on my own property. Additionally, when signing up, I was told I was receiving a discount because two neighbors had also enrolled -- but later learned that one of them is only receiving service every other month, which was never offered to me. This further eroded my trust in the company. I value respectful and honest communication in all relationships, personal or professional. I did not receive that from the technician or the company, and I am extremely disappointed in how this situation was handled. After I sent a follow-up email, my contract was canceled. Though I received a call from the owner, I did not answer it. Instead, I went to my neighbors for a hug and some understanding as I was very shaken by the whole event. read more

We are on acreage in the country.Lots of wildlife & bugs. We haven't had any mice in the house for 10 years or more since using A-1 Pest Management. One day I heard buzzing in the dining room and they bees were flying inside by windows, I called A-1, they came that same day & followed up the next day. !!!!-UPDATE AND A WARNING-!!!! If A-1 Pest Management charged you the 350 dollar cancelation fee I have some good news for you. Bank of America just gave me a permanent refund. A-1 Pest Management has a clause in their contract that says, It must be canceled in writing. Well Rick verbally canceled mine and I will assume he has and will verbally cancel yours... Especially if their is a dispute that goes against his "high and mighty opinion". Rick Hatfield's entire business model is to get his punk salesmen named Jared to write a contract, give subpar service by his tech to then cash you out of the contract for a year. They are seemingly act like they are honest people but they are just crooks. Rick tried to messaged me, while he was obviously intoxicated, threating me with a civil suit that he used the wrong legal term in and also had numerous words misspelled. This is a terrible operation from start to finish. I would also like to add Better Business Bureau has been notified of such poor service. Under A-1 Pest Management on the Better Business Bureau website, there is a review that seems oddly familiar with mine. It describes exactly what I went through but from 2022. Rick is a repeat offender of abusing the 350 Dollar cancelation fee. I would bet you most of his business comes from that. We live in the Atascadero hills and ants are a huge problem. This year I wanted to get a professional company to keep my house ant free. We hired A-1 because they had great reviews and were the highest-rated pest control company on Yelp. Chance came out the next day. He set out bait and said we should see little to no ants in 3 days. After 3 days we had more ants than we ever have had! Over the next 30 days (there was a 30-day guarantee) Chance came out at least 7 times. I had hoped he would do more on the outside of the house so bait and ants would not swarm inside. After 30-days there was still no marked improvement with our ant problem so Chance extended the guarantee for another 30-days. He was willing to continue coming to the house, but the bait was not making any difference so we stopped calling. Chance was nice, but the service did not work! read more
