Went in for new brakes on my Ford CMax. They were so professional and supportive and got a great deal! Will recommend for sure.

These guys really helped me out when I was on a roadtrip. My car's check engine light came on and I could barely drive it. I just so happened to end up at this shop and it was a true blessing. They diagnosed the issue before closing and then I came back in the morning to get it repaired. They gave me a fair estimate from the start (better than any other shops around!!) and then later called me to confirm the repair and how much it would be. They had it fixed within the day. They went above and beyond fixing it AND they didn't charge me a ridiculous diagnosis fee that a lot of shops do. So far, so good after the repair! Thank you! read more

This is an auto shop that's different. They care. It's a repair shop like we had in years gone by as they really care. They diagnose issue quickly and estimate a fair price. They treat you like a valued customer and are extremely helpful. My partner and I stranded with very complicated repair and we have never felt once that they didn't have it under control. The entire staff is respectful cares about the community. I would not hesitate to take my business here. read more

We had some unexpected car troubles on a road trip. Luckily, A-1 was open and nearby. They were quick to make an assessment and took the time to show us exactly what was wrong. They were extremely helpful, going above and beyond to try to find the part and giving us all of the information we would need to get the issue fixed when we got home. Their pricing was fair and transparent. If we lived in the area, we would take our cars to them for everything. Highly recommend! read more

My car was acting up and was giving a list of wrong readings from the OBD two scanner the guys are red star tech we're unable to fix it but Hoss was open through the weekend and took my car in and did everything he could to figure it out even let me work alongside with him so I could know the problem for future reference! Him and his son were extremely helpful and did a great job! They charge very reasonable prices, and ARE OPEN ON THE WEEKEND!! These guys are family owned and run business and I would definitely suggest always taking your car to them for any sort of needs as they are a local business and always do their best to help you out read more

Hoss is a good man, charges reasonable/honest rates and forsure did a great job. I brought my car in for rear strut replacement and I had already had the part that I bought online. But when it came time to change it the parts the ball joint of the struts I bought wasn't exactly 100 percent the same as the original and was a few millimeters off... Making the job harder he called me let me know the situation (which I 100 percent understood) but they didn't get discouraged & told me he could make it work. That they already had one side in. I really appreciated him & his son Ray putting their experience to use and even tho the part was off a little, Him still being a man of his word and stuck to the price we agreed on. He also help me put my front bumpers right side on because it was being held on by some twine as a favor. So I tipped him 20 and went on my way. Great, honest & reliable service. I will forsure be coming back to have him check up on my car when needed. read more

I would love to keep this shop to myself, but I'd be doing you all a disservice. Hoss is an amazing man with a great heart, focused on helping people so they don't get ripped off by the bigger repair shops. A Santa Barbara gem for getting your car fixed. read more

I have had a hell of a week simply trying to replace my car battery. After being screwed by Autozone down the street I came here in tears. Thankfully they were able to help me change it quickly and get me back to work as fast as they could. I would highly recommend A-1 Auto Repair! read more

We broke down on the way through town. Pulled over and had quick service. Very affordable. Beautiful part of town. We even had the most amazing tacos from a stand across the street while we waited!! read more

Don't bother going anywhere else, this shop is the BEST in town. If I could rate them 10 stars I would. They are honest, trust worthy and reliable. It's a family owned and operated which I like. They service my Audi and both of my Prius's am I couldn't be happier with their work. read more

My car has been leaking oil for a long while and I neglected to keep up with the maintenance of my car. And being a bit younger I don't know much about why it was leaking and thought I just needed an oil change. Luckily I was able to find A-1 auto repair to help fix my car same day I called. The team was very nice and responsive and talked me through the steps they were taking to ensure my car was getting properly fixed and tackled the exact problem. My car has been leaking oil to other parts and they cleaned the surrounding areas and were able to identify what made my engine light and oil change light turn on. If I didn't head to them I probably would've ran into many more issues with my car resulting in replacement of motor which is a lot pricier than the initial service. Very appreciate of the great service provided and would definitely recommend them to others! My car is an older car as well and they had everything needed to help with my car. read more

It's so hard to find an good, honest, and affordable mechanic. Hoss is that man. A friend referred him to me and he has been the best mechanic I have ever encountered. He's to the point and doesn't try to up-sell you on unnecessary things. He's fast and let's you know exactly what your car needs and the cost. Definitely call before hand. I've always done this and he's been able to see me same day every time. I've referred others to him who have also been happy with his service. I'd never go anywhere else. read more

My car started shuddering while I was driving on the 101 on a Saturday, and every other place in town (including my usual) was either closed for the weekend or farther than I wanted to drive. I called A-1 from the gas station where I'd pulled over and asked if they were available right then, and thank goodness, they were! First of all, they're extremely easy to find -- right on the corner of Milpas and Quinientos. There were quite a few other cars being worked on when I pulled in, but a mechanic came over to take a look at mine immediately. Only a few minutes later, he and Hass were able to diagnose a problem with the spark plugs. They ordered the parts and after about an hour, I was on my way with a car that drove beautifully. Four stars for friendliness, speed, and fixing the problem. The only reason I withheld a star is because the bill came out to be pricier than I had anticipated and nobody informed me up front what the parts and labor would cost. (I probably should have asked, but it seems that it would have been more professional for them to volunteer the information.) For a fast repair on a Saturday, though, it was worth it. I'll definitely be back in the future. read more

The mud flap under my car was missing rivets. I stopped in to see if they had the part so i could purchase a few and install them myself. Hoss told me to pull my car around and he would take a look. He found i was missing 5 rivets under my car and installed all of them. He also checked my fluids before sending me on my way. Great service. Friendly staff. read more

super nice and friendly man! you approach the shop and he greets you with an awesome smile he doesn't BS or use car lingo he gets to the point and cost easy parking access got the job done in one day called me to fup on the repairs, explained the outcome of the concerns I'd had..no BS with this man so happy :) no BS w/EXTRA HIDDEN FEES or excuses #1 shop for this gal! read more

While driving back home on the 101 yesterday, I found that the motor on my driver's side window had died. And the window was down. And we were going to hit rain before the journey was over. And it was Black Friday so some places weren't open. Fortunately, we randomly exited at Milpas & came across A1 Auto Repair. Hoss said he could help right then! He had to go get the replacement motor, but we were back on the road in about an hour and a half. The cost was very reasonable, lower than I expected, especially considering my need & the lack of alternatives. A1 would definitely be my shop if I lived anywhere near Santa Barbara. read more

Amazing work done here I definitely recommend using a1 auto Hoss is very friendly and helpful I refer everyone to them

Haus fixed my drivers side window that wouldn't roll up. Very well done and reasonable price. Also my Mom recommended the place as they are honest and fair (ie fixing a problem with her car by replacing a blown fuse for no or very little charge) read more

Took my car in for coolant leaking on four different occasions and was without my car for three weekends in a row plus during the week! Each time he gave me the car back, he claimed to have fixed the problem yet it kept leaking coolant . He gave me the car back with an oil leak he had caused and the car is smoking after I paid him $800. When I confronted him, he said, "We were repairing & trying to find the problem. I confirmed with other mechanics he is supposed to find the problem first, fix it, and then charge for competent repair. My car never leaked oil until he caused this problem to collect more money, he thought. Plus now the car coolant is boiling which another mechanic says it is not supposed to do. So after he had the car for 9 days he has never repaired the coolant problem and he has my $800. I have to pay another mechanic to fix the damages he's caused to my car. He never called me with estimates nor assessments like other mechanics do. I had to keep calling him after he kept the car for two or three days. He did the work without authorization and charged later. He also put the wrong oil in my car and used whatever he had in the shop even though my car takes synthetic oil. Now I have to take him to small claims court to recoup my money and am paying another mechanic on top of what I paid him. After all the days he had to work on my car, he said the oil leak he caused could ignite and the car could catch on fire. He even hosed it down in front of me. He placed me and my child in danger! DO NOT TAKE YOUR CAR TO THIS INCOMPETENT! HE WILL RIP YOU OFF. read more

So upfront with everything he's doing to your car. No bs like some other mechanics who try to tell you that you need a whole new transmission, when really your car just had faulty wiring (such as in my case). Will be going back for as long as I live in Santa Barbara! read more

Hoss is the best! He helped me figure out a problem that another shop wanted an arm and a leg for! I am afraid to put this on yelp for fear that everyone will find this gem but I want him to stay in business. :) Friendly. Knowledgeable. Helpful. Affordable. The best I have ever come across in auto repair! read more

Hassan is the most professional, honest mechanic in town. I highly recommend him to everyone I know!

I would recommend this auto shop to anyone who values honesty, integrity, un-inflated prices in this industry that seem to get more of the opposite. However, I would caution on the wait time to get services, though. But all in all, Huss (the owner) is a gem of a find! read more

Very good price, got the part same day, had the car done in hours and job done correctly. What more can you ask for? Seems very knowledgeable. read more

5 years ago we were a homeless family in Santa Barbara CA and bought an old clunker from the ARC in Carpentaria so we could stay in it while trying to figure out what to do and how to get back on our feet. While driving it back to Santa Barbara it broke down on the 101. The highway tow service towed us to Hass' shop where we learned that the OBD system had taken a huge crap. Hass really helped us out of a jam on this one! He had the part in SUPER fast and gave us a GREAT deal considering we were broke. I have nothing but love for him and his family there. He was instrumental in helping us get to where we are today. If our family can help him keep as busy today as he was then, in just this small way, by giving him the review he deserves it wouldn't be enough! When we drove our car out of there he gave us a half of a dollar bill for good luck that we still carry with us today. :) read more

What can i say about A1 auto repair. It was definitely different! I'm a student at UCSB and couldn't find any decent shops in Goleta or Santa Barbara. I cant just take my baby anywhere! So i asked around and I heard about HOSS and A1-Auto Repair. I have never been treated like family at a business, but they will make you feel special. But Hoss definitely took care of me and my car!! I went around town getting estimates but nothing realistic to a student I saved $570 here!! I would recommend this place to ALL STUDENTS!!! GREAT GUY, GREAT JOB AND GREAT PRICES I LOVE THIS PLACE!!! read more

A-1 Auto Repair is one of, possibly the most under rated shop in Santa Barbara. I take my Land Rover to him regularly. All of the many repairs have been completed perfectly, and the owner Hoss doesn't replace things that don't need to be replaced. Finding an honest mechanic is hard enough, but Hoss is not only that, but also his pricing is absolutely fantastic. Best mechanic I have ever had, and it definitely doesn't hurt that he is also a great value! read more

When it comes to a major repair or replacement Hoss is the man. he undertook our engine replacement and dealt with it and all of the complications and was kind and gracious at every step. Hoss is honest and his prices are fair to low. Super low if you want to compare him to a dealer. He knows cars, and contrary to one of the reviewers here, is not after your money. He's been servicing our old cars for about 9 years now. Old cars break, it's a fact. If you've got a new Ferrari, he might not be your ticket, but if you've got a 2001 Toyota with 200,000 miles on it, he's your guy. read more
