I would highly recommend training with Jeff, not just to get in shape, but to learn effective real world techniques that aren't taught at karate and tae kwon do Studios. Don't waste your time anywhere else, do it the right way with Chicago kickbox.

Jeff's the definition of an awesome trainer! He not only is very passionate about kickboxing,…read moreboxing, martial arts, etc. but he makes sure to take the time to EXPLAIN about the movements your body is doing during the exercises he puts you through, which not a lot of trainers take the time to do so. He broke down workouts step by step and made sure I did them correctly. He was always all about form vs. function! His sessions are always fun and I get a good workout in. The boxing portion of my workout is my absolute favorite! He's also very knowledgeable about supplements and has given me A TON of advice about weight loss (my own personal goal), what to take and what not to take, what works and what doesn't work, etc. He also knows what he's talking about when it comes to food and macro breakdowns. Overall, I would recommend Jeff to anyone who wants to actually meet their fitness goals as well as LEARN a thing or two about supplements and muscle activation.

The new facility is HUGE, a definite upgrade over the old place. Not only is there more mat space but a weights area and heavy bags. More than one classes can run at the same time which means a larger variety of classes, more advanced level Jiu-jitsu, Muay Thai and even two dedicated MMA classes a week. What has NOT changed is the quality of instruction, the friendly, laid back atmosphere and it's competition focus. All of the instructors there are really laid back-there are no formalities here, which makes it really easy to ask them for help with techniques or questions about how to do moves. Walk up to anyone for help or even some practice and they'll be more than happy to do so. A couple months ago, Mark the head instructor said it best: "this isn't a business, it's a family." You can tell from the beginning that this isn't just a school to just learn but a place where people come together to share a common interest, almost like a clubhouse. While I like the new facility and the space what I'm going to miss most is the people I get to see week after week.

I've never been fit or athletic, so it was intimidating for me to jump into Kickboxing. All the instructors make workouts so much fun. Now I look forward to class every time! The community culture of members and instructors is so positive and inclusive that I didn't feel like I had to hide in the back from day one. The classes and instructors specially Furkan are great and they help you throughout the class to make sure your posture is right specially if you're a new comer. Every meeting and check in with Huda was super helpful and encouraging. Every class showed better results each time. I've learned so much in such short time since I've joined. All thanks to the ILKB team and everyone in it for helping me accomplish my goals

On the day of the consultation I received a call from Quentin, a super energetic employee who told me that average weight loss from their customers is 60-120 lbs, and that in the 6 week program I should lose 25 lbs. We went through several pieces of information and again, I should have known better because isn't that what the consultation would be about? After hanging up super pumped, I received another call from Quentin a few hours later explaining "the last spot for the free program was just taken" but I could still come in to talk about the paid memberships. Niiiiice try.

In a time where nobody really knows what new crazy challenges tomorrow is going to bring they have been up front and very communicative. I don't tend to give out my main email when signing up for things, but even though it wasn't an email I checked regularly I was still able to communicate the goings on before and during the Gym being closed. Between email and Facebook I was able to remain informed as things unfolded. I was given the option to freeze my account while the gym had to be closed but chose to for the sake of the small business keep my membership -- and became incredibly thankful for Louisa and Connor doing live Zoom workouts. We were informed when they would be and I was able to plan my day around them. I know corporate had video ones available, but I prefer to be directly motivated by my beloved trainers :) -- then when places were able to open their doors again, 9Round Northbrook was more than happy to have their members back. I unfortunately wasn't able to start going in quite yet so they let me freeze my membership until I could. They are incredibly personable and flexible and it's so refreshing. I've recently been able to start going in to workout again and they are following all of the CDC cleaning recommendations (and take our temperature upon arrival) so I definitely feel safe going to workout. I do miss the ability to randomly show up (we call first now...for now) I miss this place whenever I am gone for any period of time- and MAN do I need it! I get bored easily so I'm always looking for new (not so fun) ways to break a sweat. My most recent…read morediscovery - hit 180, which offers a variety of classes at many different times throughout the day. They are one of the few studios to offer both 5am and 530pm classes. You won't catch me at a 5am, but I'm all about the 530pm to prepare for my real workout of the night (bedtime with 3 children). Hit 180 classes occur in a massive personal training studio located behind Mariano's (or tick tock daycare to be exact). Parking can be challenging during the popular workout times, but they have a valet on staff then. They should really get him a valet shirt because the first time I handed him my keys I feared I was falling for a car theft scam I saw on Oprah several years back. Hit 180 is basically circuit training. It's a great total body workout where you get a bit of cardio in (rower and a few other torture machines). The majority of the class is weight lifting which I like but I wouldn't mind just a few more spurts of cardio throughout the workout. All instructors have been good and spend a lot of time correcting form, but my favorites are Alex and Carl. Surprisingly I've either been alone or with 1 other person in all Hit 180 classes (I hear the early morning classes get pretty busy) so you basically get all the benefit of a personal trainer for a fraction of the price. They also offer some other classes such as boxing, kickboxing and tabata. I tried the boxing with Edward, which consisted of a warm up, circuit training and punching the hell out of a bag. It was a great workout and fun, although I wish he spent a bit more time helping me and my other "new to boxing" friends with our form. I'd definitely go back though and can't wait to try kickboxing and tabata. I love the hit 180 class, but would like to see even more variety on the schedule. If you're looking for a new workout I recommend giving Hit 180 a try. Your first class is free and I highly doubt you'll only go once.

Update and changing my review from 4 to 2 stars:…read more After class yesterday, I noticed that my pinky finger started to feel numb, and something felt weird about my wrist and forearm. And then, my hand was just completely weak--I couldn't type or pick up a glass of water. Went to urgent care and got X-rays, and thankfully it's not broken, but there's inflammation around the nerves. The doctor said it was because I wasn't wearing wraps and may not have been wearing the right size gloves. I now realize that it's not just annoying that the instructor never checked to see if everyone had the proper equipment (it wasn't even the instructor or an employee that showed me where the gloves were--it was another student in class) but it's dangerous. No stretching afterwards, no equipment check... Unacceptable. So yes, fun class, but not worth it for the injury. Don't go unless you have the proper equipment, and you do your own stretching before and after. _________________________ I did the Cardio Boxing class with Nick for the first time this morning, and holy crap--that class will kick your butt. I read the reviews on ClassPass and saw that other people wrote "I thought my arms were going to fall off" and "I thought I was going to die" and then, of course, I was like, "oh yeah? let's see..." This class is one hour of non-stop cardio and strength. The "warm-up" is getting on the treadmill and running...and then doing 60 push-ups, and then doing 50 jumping jacks, and then mountain climbers...and then burpees ... then chest presses... then more pushups, then... (on and on). Then, finally you get into the circuit, which included hitting one-on-one with Nick, hitting the bag, shadow boxing with weights, step-ups on a giant tire, biking, rowing, the climbing machine, etc... And then finally you get into the ring for a last 15 minutes of punch combos on the bag. If you don't have gloves, they've got a bin full of them that you can borrow. I would suggest bringing your own wraps. I don't recommend this class to novices. It's very, very intense, and there's almost no instruction, so know your punches before you go. I had a great time, got a great workout, and would definitely return next time I'm in the area, but docked a star because there wasn't any instruction, nor was there instructor-led stretching before and after.
