In the Duluth area for work for a month I was looking for a gym and stumbled upon Northland Fitness…read moreonline. After reading the reviews regarding the gym and how responsive and engaged the owner was, I figured it would work. I sent an email with a few questions that was replied to within an hour. I went through the brief online registration process and Griffin set up my activated key fob to be left in a lockbox as I would be arriving after staffed hours. After using this gym for the past few days, I've realized it's the perfect balance between a hardcore gym where weights are being tossed around left and right, and a PF where you are very limited. The place is spotlessly clean, has a great selection of modern equipment, and the owner Griffin clearly understands that customer service/experience is key. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this place to anyone.

I clean up after my self at all times and always have. I don't harass. I keep my eyes to myself. I woke up on New Years day at 7 a.m. and checked my bank account as I had no money and was expecting my check. My money was there. I got to the gym and I had been locked out. Fob not working. I called the gym a few times and of course nobody answered as it was New Years Day. I left a voice-mail stating I was upset and left my name and number. I receive no call back. I call my self on January 2nd at 8:45a.m. Phone rang several times then the Manager Nick answered. I asked him what happened. He said I didn't pay on the 1st so he had to lock me out. I didn't tell him there was $1600 in my account all day on the first. I guess this guy gets up at 1a.m. or something and does this. I believe he did it on the 31st and then lied about it. Point blank. He has taken the money early before. I immediately said cancel my membership. He said "OK". No apologies no explanation. Let's say it auto debits at midnight. OK. In the free weight area they had dumbbells, barbells, squat/power rack with pull-up bar, a smith machine, and an array of benches. No bumper plates or lifting platform, but plenty of room to move around. There was also an adequately sized area for stretching, which I used for crossfit-style kettlebell and bodyweight workouts. It was pretty quiet but everyone I met was cheerful and friendly. The daily and weekly rates were very affordable. Quite a find, and I look forward to coming back next year!

It is conveniently located in Downtown Duluth, which is super nice and the facility has a cool open feel. I don't know what else they do, in particular, other than what's on their website.. I just know that I took a hot yoga class and it was nice. They have a locker room, one restroom/shower shared by all customers, water fountain, they provide yoga mats (if you don't have one), blocks, etc The first time rate for a new student is $6/class, then it goes up to $10/class after that visit. The instructor was nice and it was a good 1hr yoga class, I just wish it would've been slightly hotter. I enjoy the 100+ heat, but it felt more like a good 85 degrees, which is warm enough to make you sweat a lot but not hot enough to suffocate you. Still.. The building was not specifically designed for the hot yoga classes, but they seem to have adapted quite well. The room is charming and smells really nice. The lobby felt a little empty but very welcoming. I recommend people try a class here once.
