Going off and talking about medieval times.. I get it but.. It's 2025 and we're talking about HOCKEY girl. Used to be a good channel (in my opinion) and it now just annoys me as soon as I turn on the radio to hear Savannahs (Pretty sure) loud high pitched voice. Now looking for new recommendations. They play the same songs at about the same time and it probably isn't a coincidence. Each station probably fears losing its listeners according to which song might be playing. When it first started HOT 107 played 10,000 songs commercial free which lasted a really long time and now it is just commercial free Monday's (also like the bounce). One thing I do enjoy about this station is that they are on the air with Ryan Seacrest 11am - 3pm, Monday to Friday. I get bored of hearing the same old Edmonton radio hosts so I welcome the change. You can pretty expect much of the same from this station as the bounce. I do like how they compete against each other and that gives me more options now. If one's playing crappy music I just tune in to the next one.

Rob and Audie have their morning show and are veterans in the business. They should get rid of the Morning Mindbender though. They ask a question and have people calling in with their guess. With the internet, most people can just find the answer. I also liked Shane Michaels with the afternoon show. They have the Hall of Fame weekends and will play songs from featured artists. I became bored with the repeated songs, and found a new radio station that is now my main one. I will still listen to CapFM when nothing is good on the other station I tune into. SONiC 102.9 is the freshest sounding commercial radio station in Edmonton. It is a Modern Rock…read morestation which means that no classic rock or current mainstream nausea is allowed. For the most part. They are owned by Rogers Communications, so they're not as "indie" as they probably want us to think they are. So unfortunately, bands like Green Day, Blink 182, and Offspring still claim squatter's rights on SONiC's airwaves. Garner Andrews' morning radio show transcends the other stations' wacky morning zoo crews. Andrews is laid-back and natural, and I enjoy his off-beat sense of humour. His "salute to substandard service" and the "Bring Back Pie" movement are funny stand-outs. Garner Andrews (to my knowledge) has never staged a sex act with a stripper and leaked the video online for publicity like another Edmonton morning DJ whose name rhymes with Ball Gown. One thing I don't like about SONiC is how they ignore their roots. There were a lot of bands from the '80s that spawned the type of music that SONiC plays, such as The Smiths or Hüsker Dü that the station doesn't ackowledge. They rarely ever play anything pre-1990s. The '90s are oldies for them. I know they're called "Modern Rock" but that's just a stupid industry adjective to describe a genre that we used to refer to as "Alternative." If you're sick of hearing "Stairway to Hotel California" on K-97 and the Bear is testing your sanity, turn it to SONiC. You will probably discover some new music that you will like.

If someone wants music they are in the wrong place. the morning show starts the broadcast day and is a very good morning show. the talent isnt big name, but they have fun together and they love sports and it shows. its a very very easy listen even if you arent a fan of the local teams then the station feeds us some jim rome which i cant handle so i change the channal, but alot of people like jim rome. to each their own, and a station needs to appeal to different tastes. the lunch hour and the hour after are focused on the oilers and this is the bread and butter of the market place. oilers rule the city's interest and these 2 hours of show have a heavy mix of 'insider' info and outsider opinion too. then comes a 4 hour block with a guy that is totally tapped into the local market. the station would be better off if it had the rights to broadcast oiler games in the evenings but those rights are owned by the competition. instead the station fills the evening with out of market programming most nights. they do have a wonderful prospects show on tuesdays though... its outstanding. and to close the night from 9-12 is a very easy listening local show that includes alot of highlights from the day for those who missed them first time around. overnight is just american syndicated programming... which along with the fact that the team doesnt have the oiler rights brings my overall score down to just 4 stars... but the morning show... the the 2 hours at lunch time... the prospects show... the saturday afternoon show... are all 5 star in my opinion. for a small market all-sports format, you cant really find a better station then this one and imo it holds its own against even the best all-sorts channals youd find in toronto or vancouver or anything ive ever heard from the usa too.

They carry edmonton oil kings broadcasts as well. At midnight they have jim rome rebroadcasts. Also they have the most ads i've ever heard on a radio station. Probably like 8 minutes of ads for every 10 minutes of programming.

I came to this actual building for a tour of their music library as part of an Edmonton Public Library Learn Downtown event and was wowed about the purpose-built space. The music collection is lovely and there really is more space down here than I expected. This area isn't normally open to the public but it is essential for the DJs preparing their setlists. We also saw some really great old-fashioned media. I wish I could have stayed longer and seen more. I'm super happy to have been able to visit the music library and get an even greater appreciation for one of my all-time favourite radio stations.

If you're entertained by cheap, immature publicity stunts, then you'll love Paul Brown's morning show. The Bear plays all the usual radio filler fluff like Nickelback, Green Day, Linkin Park, Nickelback, Nickelback, and Nickelback. I read that back in the late '70s, radio stations used to advertise "Bee Gee Free Weekends". Radio stations today need to implement such a promotion regarding Nickelback. In 1966, dozens of radio stations held bonfire parties for burning Beatles records. So far, no station (that I know of) has done such a thing for Nickelback. The Bear could gain a lot of street cred for this. Let's go! Anyway, the station plays a few classic rock songs too, but it's always the same obligatory "You Shook Me All Night Long with a Whole Lotta Love because there was Another Brick in the Wall" stuff. The usual. The only great thing about The Bear is Yukon Jack's "My Big Yap" segment. That is gold. I hear his commentaries and think to myself, "how can this guy work at a station that he should be making fun of?" If you're seriously a fan of rock music, get satellite radio.
