Splinter HELL, I hope you don't want ice…read more This hotel was fantastic at first, especially the corner pool terrace suite. Easy access to the pool, large and lots of light. But my god, it is splinter hell. Us, along with 3 other families that we knew of, were realizing at the pool that us and our kid's feet were completely full of splinters. We spent a total of about 3 hours at the pool over 2 days and my four year old had over 50 splinters in each foot! I had about 10 and spouse a few less. My four year old will not even let me look at his foot, nevertheless remove the splinters - yeah right. I think we are going to need to get sedated. This has ruined the stay to be honest. The hotel also didn't have tweezers. At least two families complained and nothing seemed to be done about it. The deck is extremely dry. This wouldn't be a hard problem to solve. ICE. I requested ice about 20 different ways, because there is no ice machine so they say just request it: - through the app on their tablet (3x, nothing) - through calling the front desk (2x, nothing) - in person at the front desk (2x, nothing) - through text to the front desk (4x, nothing) - in person to the person that came to the room one night (2x, 1x worked!) I got ice once, woohoooooo! The tablet is a joke. I needed an extra bedsheet and requested it through the tablet and it never came. In person at the front desk it did, however. Beautiful hotel, but the splinters ruined it. You could not pay ME to stay somewhere that my autistic kid gets 100 splinters in his feet. The hotel is feeling a bit neglected in some ways. Our "terrace" had algae on the deck area, one couch cushion had a big brown spot and there was half of a DEAD BIRD on our terrace. It was there the whole time. Of course my 4 year old was enthralled.Yay.

But you cannot call down to request your car. You must come down and physically wait for it. Which not sure if this hotel understands what "Valet" is but thats not it. On Sunday during check out hours there were minimum 10 people and families waiting for their cars while 1 person was on staff. the valet guys were beyond nice and apologetic, not their fault. When I asked the man at the front desk if I could just go get my car myself from the parking lot he yelled at me and told me I needed to "Wait my turn and quit being rude". Our room was damp and moist. In fact the corner of the rooms carpet near the AC was soaking wet. We called down to ask about it and the response was "yes we are aware but cannot do anything about it". Last but not least the power at the hotel went out for hours. How does a hotel on the beach of this size not have generators. No other hotels in Asbury lost power. We spent almost $1100 per night on this hotel. NOT WORTH IT! There are much better options in Asbury Park. Never again.

The hotel is beautiful and it felt like every single piece of furniture and decorations were chosen intentionally. Perhaps the best part of our stay was the phenomenal, friendly and attentive service from manager Emily. Truly a gem of a person, and made sure everything we needed was available. Would also like to highlight that Emily reached out even before our stay begun to ask if we needed anything upon arrival or had any questions. All requests were met and Emily was prompt to answer all questions. I would highly recommend The James Bradley to anyone thinking of visiting. If you're looking for a quick vacation out of this city, this is the place, so easy to get to, the town has wonderful restaurants/bars and the beach was beautiful (even if it was too cold to hang out). Can't wait to find a reason to return.

I'm all for minimalism but there needs to be functionality behind it. As for breakfast; more gluten free options please! And the soft boiled eggs we chose were either cooked too hard or way undercooked. The yogurt and fruit was delicious! Our server was great.

Quaint and no-frills, but great location, good price, and it gets the job done…read more Check-in is super easy, you can arrive after-hours if you must. It is billed as a B&B, so we sampled the options one of the mornings during our stay. Coffee and water, mandarins, and store bought coffee cakes were out, and the proprietor, who was super kind during the stay, made some scrambled eggs, which were really delicious. He had some bread and cinnamon raisin bread out, too, which we toasted. The room was decently sized and fairly clean, though there were some ants. One oddity is the bathroom situation. Our room had a private bathroom, which was a deal breaker for us. You can request that when you book. Most rooms share bathrooms - there are a few in the halls. The walls are pretty thin, and there was a definite clomper present during our visit, so we heard them a-clompin' from time to time. Overall, though, it didn't detract for us. The third floor has a nice little lounge and TV room if you need to stay indoors awhile, plus there are porches out front and on the second floor. Bonus points because at the entrance they sell "ping pong pals," which are ping pong balls with mini sunglasses. That's the stuff bonus points were made for. Extra bonus points for the single best selling point about this place - the location. They are a five minute walk from Ocean Grove's Main Street with its nice coffeeshops, bakeries, delis, shops, etc; less than five minutes walking gets you to the beach; and about 5-10 minutes across the bridge gets you to Asbury's main dining/night life area. That makes for an incredibly convenient stay. We were satisfied.

Not to mention the special band-aids when he got cut... and 100 other kid friendly moments. The four stories of this beautiful old mansion look right over the ocean. As in, you can throw a ball into the ocean from your room. Pluses - tons of little amenities. Plenty of towels, basket downstairs of shampoo/towels for post-beach shower even after check out, small library , fun and funky art on walls, laid-back and young, fun staff; dog Roscoe who hangs out, 100 nooks and crannies, both indoors and out, to hang out. Yogurts, various pastries and coffee/juice included. Towels for beach and big quilts if you want them. Just a great wraparound service place at the beach. The air conditioner is ice cold for those who need it, and they have a cool system where you put a little cap into the vent and you can block the air as well. Easy! Cons- The bed was not awful, but one of the less comfortable beds I've slept on in a lodging I've paid for. Also, no bathtubs. But I didn't ask. Oh, and if you go on Sunday, be aware that in this believin' town, the beaches are closed til post-worship 12:30 pm. Next time, I'd book earlier, skip the ocean view, and get the room with shared bath- that would be a real steal at the Ocean Vista! Will be back...
