Another day, another coffee shop! This time I visited Safwa Specialty Cafe. I had seen them on…read moresocial media several times and decided to finally check them out, and I am so happy I did. The inside was warm and cozy, with plenty of seating and adorable decor. I saw many people chatting or typing away on their computers, so it is clearly a welcoming place no matter the occasion. They have a solid food menu alongside classic coffee and tea selections. While they offer fun specialty coffees and refreshers, my favorite part was their seasonal menu. This time around, I tried a bit of everything. I ordered the raspberry almond shortcake matcha as well as the sticky toffee pudding latte from their winter menu, and then added the Spanish latte from their specialty lineup! Of course, we needed even more, so after being stuck between the smoked salmon toast and the hummus toast, I opted for the latter. I was so happy with my choice! It was a light, refreshing homemade hummus topped with a Mediterranean salad of cucumber, onion, and tomato. The balance between the cheese, the creamy hummus, and the crisp salad was amazing. To finish, because a sweet treat is essential, we got one of their pastries: the cheese danish. The food was great, the drinks were even better, and the staff was super friendly. This is a must-visit spot and I can't wait to be back!

We tried a few pastries, all were good. The brown sugar shaken espresso was made really well with a balanced flavor. The latte cup for dine-in was a special, high quality mug, we appreciated the detail. Overall a good shop, glad there're more options for good coffee in the area.

After having my first peanut butter latte in Tucson that blew me away I was super excited to see a PB Banana latte here at Chapter 2. Unfortunately, the peanut butter was subtle and I think they forgot the ripe banana because I couldn't detect any. The espresso came through nicely though. We also got their almond crossiant. The cashier asked if I wanted it warmed up and I said yes. We waited and waited and by the time we were halfway done sipping our coffee, I had to go up to ask about it. The young girl actually gave me a straight face and acted like they didn't forget and when they served it to us it was not heated up. At that point I'm like why bother asking again. All-in-all it was okay. They do have a very exciting menu with interesting flavor combo lattes. Maybe I ordered the wrong drink? Probably won't return since I was not wowed on this first visit. Onto Chapter 3 of my coffee adventures...

That's when I stumbled across Hidden Grounds Coffee House... and let's just say, this place is not so "hidden" once you find it. I ordered the smoked salmon and cream cheese toast, and every single component was fresh, high quality, and dialed in. I added avocado (highly recommend), and it just took everything to the next level. Simple, clean, and absolutely delicious. Then came the honeybee latte, hot and wow. Whatever they're doing behind the scenes with this coffee, it works. Perfectly balanced, smooth, and honestly one of those drinks you think about later in the day. This is a non-negotiable order. And because discipline is overrated on a work trip, I added an almond croissant. I should've gotten two. It's filled with something magical, I'm not even going to pretend I know what it is, but it's rich, flaky, and completely worth it. If you're anywhere near Hidden Grounds, do yourself a favor and check it out. This place knows exactly what it's doing.

It ended up being the perfect weekday spot to sit and yap for a while. We originally planned to just grab coffee and a sweet treat, but once we got there, we ended up staying for lunch too. The decor is so cute and the overall atmosphere is really nice. It feels like one of those places you can hang out in without feeling rushed. The service was also great and everyone was super friendly and attentive. Only thing to note is the service charge. Not an issue that it exists, but it wasn't super clear before paying. I did notice after the fact that it's explained on the back of the plaque with the menu QR code. We ended up double tipping, which was fine because the service was great, but it's just something to be aware of for next time. Overall, definitely a spot I'd go back to for coffee, food, and a good catch up session.

I opted for the pink pistachio chai, which despite its visual appearance it was sort of mild in flavor. I didn't taste the chai spices that I love. The French toast was very lightly dipped so it wasn't "custardy", so again I was missing the French toast flavor. And 2 pieces for $16 means $8 a slice, which was so not worth it. The beef bacon was good. I loved the presentations of the food, it just didn't quite deliver on execution.
