Starbucks - 78th & State (Kansas City)…read more
Located at outdoor shopping area. Opened 2022.
WELCOMING:
The interior is spacious and offers good amounts of seating. I asked when they opened because the interior looks so nice, clean and everything looked brand new. The friendly baristas shared with me that this location opened four years ago. I was pleasantly surprised. It's visible they are doing a great job preserving this space, with pride.
As soon as you walk in, you will be greeted by friendly baristas and it doesn't seem forced. They genuinely mean it. All your main seating will be to the left, from main entrance. Right by the door, you can relax and enjoy your visit with two leather lounge chairs. They offer three large, leather benches with six tables and five chairs, against a large panel of windows. A nice touch, letting natural lighting in.
In the middle of the café you have more seating options. Five tables with ten chairs. By the back window, overlooking the patio, you have two more leather lounge chairs to unwind. Speaking of Patio. Here, you can find six tables and thirteen chairs, including the type to just relax and lounge in.
SERVICE:
While staying here and working, I was able to observe and listen to the remarkable service. The baristas did an amazing job working together and communicating properly. As if they are friends who have know each other a long time. They were able to assist all customers and make it right, despite a few very demanding customers who felt entitled.
SIDE NOTE: SUMMER 2026
Since Starbucks summer menu officially launched today, (May 12, 2026), all their drinks, including hot coffee prices have increased.
To put it in perspective. Yesterday, (May 11, 2026), I ordered Ethiopian Tall coffee, in my personal cup. My total with $0.10 personal cup discount came to be $2.82. Today, I ordered same coffee, in same personal cup. My total rang up to be, $3.15. That's a $0.33 increase. Without personal cup, expect to pay $0.43 or higher. These new prices will vary by state and regions.
RESTROOM:
Restroom was clean and no issues here. They did a good job making sure it stays clean. At this location, the restrooms don't offer any paper towels. It's a 3-in-1 modern faucet sink, with soap, water and hand dryer in one.
A lot of new built Starbucks are starting to do that. I personally think it's counterintuitive. Why wash your hands just to go open the door handle. Not everyone will wash their hands. The two restroom doors are key code access only. Access code is long when you receive it.
Wi-Fi:
Wi-Fi worked good and efficient. I was able to stay here for few hours and get work done and upload things. I was not able to find USB outlets, but they do offer regular outlets, located on the floor. Kind of odd, to be honest.
OVERALL:
Overall, my experience was good. My only recommendation is to lower the music while customers are staying awhile and trying to communicate with one another. Make the space not so cold or hot, depending on season. Otherwise, if I travel through Kansas City area again, I don't mind stopping by here again.
