It would've been nice if they had us shoot at the targets before sending us straight into a game without knowing if our guns worked properly. They have a big, open course, and a small course with buildings. The small course was shaded, so we stuck to that one a lot more. It was nicely designed and looked like a video game. They don't have running water or AC, and they have one porta-potty. They provided a filled water container without cups.

When we got to BLORA we were the only players there so the kids could learn at their own pace. CONS: We rented the equipment that was not well maintained. The masks still had paint on the lenses. The guns either were malfunctioning or the air tanks weren't filled. All 3 bags of 500 paintballs which we each received had one or more broken balls and therefore paint on the surface of the paintballs which affected trajectory. The balls were also old and were resistant to breaking on target. One of the two workers/ referees had never played before and it was his first day on the job. I overlooked all of that, knowing my kids didn't know any better, and I guided them through a more thorough safety brief and basically refereed the 3 of us. PROs: The staff members were polite and at least one of the two were knowledgeable. It was not crowded. The multiple scenario fields were good. The paintballs didn't break in the guns. We did have a lot of fun and now my kids are hooked. It's a great place for a first timer. It's also a great place for small, private groups. VERDICT: For an uncrowded paintball field, serious Veteran players in a group will want to bring their own gear. I will continue to take my kids there until they outgrow the experience and either lose interest or are ready for a more competitive paintball experience but we'll consider getting our own gear.

I have been to dozens of rural towns museums throughout Texas. This one though is the Diamond in…read morethe group. On our recent trip to Gatesville we found this gem. Its claim to fame is that it has over 6,000 different spurs, which is the Worlds largest and part of a 10,000 spur collection. You will see spurs that date back to the early 1800, along with Jackie Kennedy's spurs and those worn by Poncho Villa. This place has two floors, housing thousands of rare antiques and artifacts. It is huge, covering a City block with unique artifacts, to include Native arrowheads, millstones and clothing. It is very tastefully laid out with an antique soda shop, a historic school classroom, a transportation section displaying Ford Model T, a full scale log cabin/jail and numerous antique farm equipment, including a huge old case tractor and other early farm artifacts on displays. You will see a full scale doctor's office, a dentist office and partial hospital, displaying artifacts dating back to the early 1800. This is the single most impressive place I've visited in years. We spent two hours in it and didn't see it all. This is a must see museum. It has a gift shop loaded with very interesting merchandise for sale.

It was so nice to have visited on their first day of reopening due to getting a new elevator (it has two stories). The volunteers were so sweet and offered up their knowledge on the displays, which was truly appreciated. There is so much history here including the Lloyd and Madge Mitchell world's largest spur collection and stories behind these extraordinary people. I appreciated the diverse history in the museum. There were so many displays and narratives posted, that it would take all day to read through it all. If you appreciate Texas History, it's definitely worth experiencing this museum. I'd like to pop in again if I get the chance to read all of the narratives that I didn't have a chance to get to last time. The hours were: Wednesday - Saturday 10 am to 4 pm.

It is a great pool and full of teenage memories. My parents used to be regulars on the dance floor. Superb dancers. He retired from the military a few years ago, but they were the bell of the Officers Club when they were there. I had my senior dance here. Ah, I remember it well. In those days we all sponsored an end of the year event of some kind. Mine was a formal dance at the "Club." Everyone I knew was all dressed to the teeth, instead of jeans & t-shirts, bobby-sox and loafers. Over the years the club has been renovated a couple of time and it is even better today then it was then. Stopped by a few months ago to just make sure it was still holding its own. From the perspective of a lazy 17 year old lounging at the pool and eating lunch in the snack bar, it was pretty damn good then . . . . and still is.

Decent portions and taste - better than the fast food restaurants also located on post. It supports the Morale, Welfare, and Recreation fund for the Soldiers stationed on the post. You will be surrounded by Soldiers, former Soldiers working on post as contractors or government employees, or family members. Makes you quickly realize that you are on a military post. Rod and Gun Clubs are found on most (at least larger) Army posts. They sell fishing/hunting licenses, fishing/hunting supplies (rods, reels, lures, ammunition, and some even sell rifle, shotguns, and pistols). Depending upon the posts, rifle/shotgun range(s) are also available.
