I was a patient of Dr. Esser's at 614 Chiropractic for 7 months. First, I want to say his Business Manager and Decompression Coordinator were top notch. Ayla and Mak were professional, compassionate, and welcoming. When I first went to Dr. Esser, I made it clear that my cervical spine could not be twisted or treated harshly. Due to vertigo/balance issues, I had been under traditional chiropractic and NUCCA chiropractic care for 4-1/2 years. I had stopped traditional chiropractic care because my symptoms were exacerbated from the twisting of my cervical spine. But at the same time, the NUCCA care wasn't taking care of my scoliosis or dowager's hump. Something more was causing the dizziness/balance issues. When I moved to Dublin, I chose 614 Chiropractic because Dr. Esser was listed as a spine injury doctor. Dr. Esser took X-rays and found the lower part of my cervical and lumbar spine was compressed. So, I agreed to go through decompression therapy. Of course, it's sold cheaper in a package; I purchased 24 sessions. They don't take Care Credit, so I had to take over $2,600.00 out of my savings. After I had completed my decompression therapy, I felt somewhat better, but I had hoped to feel more relief than I was experiencing. Then 6 months into treatment, as I was prepared for the normal adjustment, without warning Dr. Esser sharply twisted my cervical spine. After that appointment, my dizziness and balance became worse as if I'd never had any treatment at all over the previous months. When I told Dr. Esser, his response was that wanted me to continue to come in weekly and buy another package of decompression therapy. I paid for more decompression therapy in individual increments. When the package came up again, I told Ayla, no, that 30+ sessions should have been more than enough to decompress my spine. While I wanted to keep traditional chiropractic going because of my scoliosis, I had to return to my NUCCA chiropractor to take care of and calm my cervical spine. After Dr. Esser knew I was going back to the other physician, his adjustments became harsher. The final visit was so harsh that I struggled for days with dizziness/balance. I then decided to get another opinion, an orthopedist, as I wanted to make sure there had been no damage to my cervical spine. The orthopedist took an X-ray and immediately noticed an issue at my C0. He ordered an MRI and found a diagnosis of Chiari Type 1 which was missed by all previous doctors and it confirmed my brain's reaction to the harsh adjustments. My cervical spine had decompressed and I did not need any further treatment. When I responded to a text initiated from 614 Chiropractic that I would be going only to the NUCCA Chiropractor, Dr. Esser only responded with a self-congratulatory on his decompression therapy recommendation. My thoughts as a reminder to all future patients, Chiropractic [truly any doctor] is a business with the goal to make money. Listen to your intuition. You will be sold only what you allow and when you don't give in, pay close attention to the physician's response. If there is a negative response, walk away. read more
