The renovation on our house is almost complete. Just weeks from being done. And I only have good things to say. This was a fairly large project and it went pretty smoothly. Only a few minor things popped up but you cannot do this kind of work to a house and not have a few issues. However, Eden, the owner of 5blox made sure that things were taken care of immediately. We had half the house demolished and added a second story with some additional square footage downstairs. We had the floors in the entire house redone as well. We replaced the majority of the windows in the house. I added a few photos so you can get an idea of what we did to the house. Once the final bathroom is complete, we will have 3 brand new bathrooms. The kitchen is a completely brand new kitchen, and the house now has 4 bedrooms. We added a few custom things to the house, like a dog grooming station and a dog feeding station just to mention a couple of things. We never had to worry about what was going on. When I met Eden I knew he is the supervisor I was looking for. He is patient, professional and very enthusiastic about his profession. I recently purchased a townhouse. I knew it needed work but was scared having never done a remodel before. Yelp is asking for a review so here you go. My problems started with Josh (one of the owners) lying about the structural design not being done. He said 5 Blox was still waiting for the design from Burk engineering, but when I asked Burk they told me they sent it to them over a week ago. That was a problem because 5Blox said they couldn't start until they had the design. That was the first red flag at least. Their designers were a major disappointment too. Almost ALL their measurement were wrong. The vanities were measured wrong and transposed. They showed the guest vanity with one sink going into the master bathroom and the master vanity with two sinks going into the guest bathroom. An obvious mistake to anyone who has any experience, but they wouldn't listen to me. I had to go and remeasure everything for them to prove they were wrong. The measurements for both vanities were also incorrect and they had me ordering the wrong sized vanities until I corrected it for them. I was promised all that info would be corrected "no later than" Sunday but I didn't get anything until the following Tuesday. That was the start of a theme for them. They almost never delivered anything when they promised. I paid $6K for a 3D rendering of the remodel and it was all wrong. The physical layout of my house in the 3D rendering was totally wrong and the engineering firm had to correct it for them so they had to redo the 3D rendering. The backsplash I picked out was wrong. They randomly added cabinets in the master bathroom I didn't request and I asked them numerous times to get it corrected. Their design team made numerous mistakes that I had to correct for them. Many if not most of their measurement were incorrect. The vanities, the doors, and carpet were all incorrect. The way the doors swung were incorrect. I had to ask them numerous times to get it corrected. They said they corrected everything, but I soon learned that was a lie because they were still wrong. The material list they sent me was wrong. We had to reorder the doors several times because their information was wrong. I sent them the asbestos report and they didn't know what to do with it or who to send it to at 5blox. Apparently it was fault because I sent it to the wrong person at 5Blox and they wouldn't forward it to the right person. Bizarre! It was very difficult to get them to respond to my concerns and correct all their mistakes. They didn't update the change orders so those invoices were wrong. The shower pan was framed at 29" but it was supposed to be 32" and they had no idea because the project manager was rarely at the house to make sure this stuff didn't happen. They had obvious mistakes during every phase of the project. They even missed several items on the demo. Simple and obvious stuff but they had no idea because no one was there to make sure my project was getting done correctly. This was a whole home remodel and it became clear they were in way over their head. Again, they had no idea what was going on because no one was there to manage the project. The final charge for the bathroom was 400% higher than the estimate. In their contract they kept saying 5blox will "buy and supply" varies items then they would request payment. They tried to tell me that "buy and supply" didn't mean 5Blox would pay for it. Crazy! I wasn't living there during the remodel and almost every day I would find my house unlocked and doors left wide open. I couldn't even get them to secure my house at the end of every day so I eventually fired them and hired another company. My experience with 5blox was not good. They had numerous obvious and egregious mistakes at every stage of the process starting with demo. It created a ton of extra work for me and it became clear to me that this job was way beyond their experience level. 5Blox has cute and matching outfits, but they had so many mistakes on my project during every phase of my project that I don't think they have any idea what they were doing at least on my project. Like I said I hired another company to finish the remodel and that only confirmed I was right. 5Blox was in way over their head with my remodel. read more

My kitchen remodel project was a bit complex because it was involving a removal of a load barring wall. I could see Edén had experience in that, he made me a 3D design , brought the architect to draw the plans and approve them with the engeneer, pulled the permit and supervised the entire project. I was excited to start my bathroom remodel but nervous who to choose for the job . I knew I needed to take 3 estimates so I started taking them 3 months ago . I met some nice contractors but they seemed like they knew what they are doing but I didn't feel like they understood me and they were rushing me to sign now which I didn't appreciate. Barry Tucker from Smart Homes gave me an estimate on the damaged FACIA board on my home. It was a good one and Barry was so easy to work with that I asked for an estimate on painting the interior of my home. I was hesitant to begin such a huge project, but Barry assured me that I would have their help from start to finish. It was amazing ‼ The painters delivered boxes for my packing before the weekend. When they came Monday morning, Barry had already been back to help me move the boxes I had packed. The painters were clean, quiet, respectful and very professional! They moved all my heavy furniture so carefully. They even moved my China cabinet when it was still half full without moving one item inside! They cleaned up after themselves each day. They worked in a mindful fashion so that as much as possible got done every day. The job that could have taken 5 or 6 days was completed beautifully in 4. Barry came frequently to evaluate and help pack or put back materials as needed. As promised, everything was back in place when the work was done. Several corrections by Smart Homes for re-modeling our two bathrooms were necessary. The first was repairing the yellowing of grout shortly after Smart Homes completed the first bathroom. Eden pushed back, "... blaming us for cleaning with harsh chemicals, and/ or our water being responsible to cause the yellowing of the grout." (Neither is true.) After going "back and forth, on and on for at least thirty minutes, Eden agreed to do the repairs if we signed a waiver no longer making Smart Homes liable after repairing. The team member who completed the repairs told us, ".. The initial grouting was not properly done." Several months have passed and no further yellowing. (same cleaning products, same water.) The second bathroom had a large shower tile that was cracked. I met with Eden and once more he pushed back,"..blaming us for buying bad tile." I informed Eden that all the tile we purchased was inspected 'piece by piece' by us and purchased from Flora Decor, his recommended source, and that if it was not damaged when we purchased and even if it was, "... Your team should have noticed before installing." Eden finally agreed to repair and insisted on us signing a waiver before repairs... which he never provided. Smart Homes did repair and the tile sub informed us that the original installer, "... most likely cracked the tile during installation." Additionally the painting and grouting of the second bathroom had to be corrected three times. The two tone painting in the bathroom overlapped where the walls and ceiling joined and the grouting had deep pockets. Eden took pictures and corrections done had to be done and re-done. And a promise by Eden for one specific weekend to have his crew show up and get the job done, "correctly," never occurred. That weekend Smart Homes came out Saturday for an hour and did not return on Sunday. On that weekend my wife and I even canceled our weekend plans to accommodate Smart Homes. Additionally the second bathroom has a tiled enclosure in the bath- shower for soap and shampoo storage with very crooked walls. We did not want to have that re-done because, "enough was enough."
