    Baklava

Man, I've been wanting to try this place out for *years* after seeing and hearing so many rave reviews. Finally got my chance over the weekend, and I have to say...I was disappointed. Maybe underwhelmed is a better word. I dunno. Currently, they're open for carryout only. Everyone is masked up and the restaurant is clean, which I appreciate. The bathroom is even blocked off, which I appreciated a little less, having stopped in at the tail end of a road trip. Wound up going across the street to the gas station to use the bathroom, but oh well, it's their restaurant. Service was good enough -- not effusively friendly or helpful, especially the younger folks actually preparing the food, but our dinner came out fast enough and no one was rude or anything. We ordered a gyro combo plate and a chicken gyro plate with some garlic hummus and baklava for dessert. Portion sizes are very ample and the pricing is good; it was a touch over $30 for piles and piles of food. Meals come with meat on a bed of white rice, a large portion of salad, and two small soft pita triangles and an extremely small container of plain hummus. I'm glad we got extra. The food itself was...okay. I think I got overhyped for this place and wound up feeling disappointed. The meat in the gyro combo plate was better seasoned and more flavorful. Not sure if it's lamb and beef or just beef, but regardless, it was the clear winner. Salads were okay and we liked the dressing provided. The plain hummus was pretty unremarkable; maybe not as smooth as we really like but still enjoyable. The bed of white rice really would've benefitted from some more seasoning or spices, though it was cooked well. The garlic hummus appetizer we got came with both soft pita and pita chips. Really wish you were allowed to choose because I'd pick soft pita only every time. The pita chips were hard and stale. The garlic hummus was waaaaay too garlicky for me personally and we had some buyers remorse there, lol. The baklava was solid enough, sticky honey goodness. The low point was definitely the chicken gyro meat, though. It had a really unpleasant, spongy, moist texture. If I were to give this place another try, I'd definitely get something else. I have to believe this place is almost universally beloved for a reason, though, so maybe I just got the wrong thing.

    Gyro Greek Salad

5As is currently open for take out only. You can call in your order and they had mine ready within 15 mins. They are practicing very safe COVID prevention and following the guidelines. The Gyro Greek Salad was absolutely delicious. Plenty of meat, a lovely Greek dressing. Lots of fresh vegetables. It really hit the spot. There was a small tub of some sort of yogurt/feta which was amazing on the salad (not sure if that's what it was for but that's what I used it for). The Gyro meat was perfect, extremely juicy and perfect taste/seasonings. The Greek salad dressing was delicious as well with bits of feta. The salad was filled with olives, red onions, tomatoes and cucumbers. Overall it was the perfect salad. The red pepper hummus is delicious, and they offer pita and pita chips. They have a great menu, so I will definitely be back to try out different things. The employees were extremely nice and welcoming.

(4.5 stars) So um....yummy?! I heard 5 A's was owned and run by the same people who started Pap Gyro (one of my fav places to eat in HSV), so of course I had to shoot on over while I was in town visiting. Me and a friend ordered will our little hearts were content: Small Greek Salad - it is exactly what it sounds like. Good amount of toppings, nothing overwhelming. They include what at first seems like a way-too-small container of Greek dressing, but it's quite enough since it's flavorful and more of a vinaigrette than a creamy dressing. Eggplant Gyro - I was so excited to see this on the menu as I'd never seen it anywhere else. It had all the usual gyro toppings: lettuce, tomato, onions, olive, feta, etc. But the filling was thinly sliced, seasoned, and fried pieces of eggplant. It's really good, although I wanted one more layer of eggplant in my gyro. I might ask for extra eggplant the next time I get it (and there will be a next time) Portobello Mushroom Plate - my friend got the veggie plate which comes with rice topped with sautéed veggies (onion, peppers, sun-dried tomato, mushrooms) with melted swiss on top. It was seasoned and quite delightful. She said the swiss cheese was unnecessary, though. Spanakopita - while overpriced, in my opinion ($3.99 for 3 pieces), the spanakopita was flaky and hot. We ate them in the car :) I'm still not a fan of the fries; I don't like fries that have that batter on them. I prefer unadulterated potato and salt. Also, you gotta eat the fires right away or they get soggy and limpy. I likely won't get the fries again, but I'll sure be returning for the other stuff! If you like Papa Gyro (and I'm sure you do because you're a breathing human being), you'll love 5 A's.

I've eaten here 3 times and it has been good each time. I really like the kabobs, gyros, and the desserts. The owner seems friendly. The food can be pretty slow coming out though depending on the number of customers..so be prepared to wait. I believe the kabob plate comes with a small hummus but it was left off the plate last time in. I've tried each of their hummus flavors and like all of them. I've heard rave reviews from my Middle Eastern friends and friends that like this type of food. I find it very delicious myself. Kinda out of the way for me but I will make sure to visit here every time I am in the area. Can't wait to come back...

Had to get Shish Kofta and Hummus Tabouleh again. Current manager didn't know how S. K. designed the SPICY Chicken Crème Chop, so I decided to come back another time. Edit: Chicken Ghallabi is amazing. Stir fried chicken and vegetables, well marinated. It does include Mediterranean rice, which is seasoned wonderfully but it is therefore not keto or low carb. Still recommended. But the new favorite is the tenderloin Saijji. Well flavored tenderloin with on OUT of this world BOLD TANGY sauce. This is a unique moth sensation. 'Not spicy. Must try for anyone! Highly recommended.

They serve Pepsi products and do not offer alcohol, but do have a large selection of fresh fruit juices. This is not a gyro place - if you want a gyro, you will be disappointed. This is an Mediterranean place that offers a lot of middle eastern dishes; pitas, shwarmma, hummus, tabbouleh etc. The meats are heavily spiced; they offer lamb which is nice. All the servings were huge when it came to rice and fries, you won't leave hungry. I didn't think the prices were bad ($50+ tip) for 2 adults and a kid; I ordered an extra pita to try out the Sajji beef. The spices and flavors are strong and might not be your cup of tea but the staff was super friendly and nice, they gave us fresh warm bread on the way out. Give it a shot.

This seems to be a fairly new restaurant in Guntersville. I came for a solo lunch after work in the area a few weeks ago. The restaurant is on the smaller side but the inside is absolutely lovely and not at all what you'd expect from the location. The decor is really very beautiful and looks expensive -- modern and chic! Everything was spotless, including the women's restroom. Service was also fantastic! Unfortunately I'm a few weeks removed from my visit as I've been too busy to write super prompt reviews, but whoever my waitress was, she was such a sweetheart. She took great care of me, anticipating my needs and offering up useful information about the menu and items served. An owner or manager type also came by and spoke to me briefly, quite polite and genuine. On to the food... A complementary sampler type platter was brought out to start. It consisted of some bread, feta, olive oil, and an herb/spice blend (to dip the bread in before dipping in olive oil), along with one other small item that I don't remember -- think it was something pickled or similar. The items on the platter were on par with what you'd hope for, but the bread was unfortunately not warm and quite hard. I didn't eat much of it. I got the hibiscus specialty drink to sip on and that was actually quite lovely. Pretty color, not too sweet, very slightly tart. I was surprised to get a free refill on a drink like that one, but I certainly appreciated it! For my entree, I ordered the shawarma supreme wrap with a side of Brazos fries. This was probably the major letdown of the experience. So, I picked this item because it was on the cheaper side. Lots of the other entrees look good but were quite pricy for lunch. Therefore, I chose a smaller option. The menu said it came with marinated chicken and a garlic sauce, so I scratched my head when my waitress asked if I'd like my onions grilled on the wrap. I didn't know onions came on the wrap. I figured we were probably talking small slivers or cubes of onions, so I agreed. However, when I took a bite of my wrap, I found quite large pieces of onions -- maybe an inch or two in length and diameter both. This really hampered the experience for me because I don't like large pieces of onions at all, and it was impossible to eat even a bite without encountering a hunk of onion. I pulled them out or ate around them. It's a shame, cause the chicken and wrap and garlic sauce were all very flavorful. I agree with other reviewers that the menu is very flowery but doesn't accurately convey what to expect from the dishes. Still, flavor potential! Just gotta clear up what I'm actually ordering. The dish came with a few pickled peppers and vegetables to enhance the flavor, which I enjoyed. The fries were...not good. I should've stuck to a more traditional side dish like rice as I think that's where they excel. They had the consistency and shape of frozen fries. They were jazzed up by some sort of seasoning mixture on top, but unfortunately I really didn't like the flavor. The owner/manager caught me sniffing the fries (lol) and came over to assure me they were cooked fresh and all the way. I wasn't worried about either of those things; I just wanted to figure out what the spices were! It honestly reminded me of Old Bay seasoning but I doubt that's right. I wound up dunking my fries in the garlic sauce and tzatziki sauce to drown out the flavor. Last, I couldn't help but order some rice pudding for dessert. I love desserts from this cuisine so I had to! It was probably my favorite thing that I ate -- nice and creamy, lots of delicious chopped nuts and golden raisins. Good stuff! Would definitely order again but would also love to try the baklava. I guess I'm being extra critical just because I see the vision for something extra special! I'd love to return to try some of the larger, more expensive dishes, hopefully with my husband so we can share. I love this type of food and would love to have more of it in the area so I really hope they succeed! I'll be back to try again, but I'll make sure to double check what's in or on my meal before ordering next time.
