Finally, I went inside and asked if they were still seating people for dinner. "Yes, of course, sit anywhere you like!" That would have been a good bit of info when they walked past us for 8 minutes. It took a long time to get our order in, but it is what it is. Can't expect much from a place like this on the service front. Food: Four stars... four stars is a bit aggressive, but I'll be an optimist. The patatas bravas were crisp and the bacon wrapped figs were excellent. The dorado was boney but still pretty good. Location: Five stars... can't beat a place where you can do some people watching and listen to the mini-waves lap at the sand across the street. If we at ate this place somewhere else, it would have been 2-3 stars. That said, our expectations for beachfront dining are very low, and this place exceeded those expectations for the most part.

Bossa Nova is run by the most wonderful and charming couple and the rest of the staff is equally, if not more, pleasant. If you let them take care of you, you will enjoy the food very much, even though on its own it would probably deserve a 3/5. We had a seafood spaghetti to share as a primi, with a very nice sauce and a good variety of seafood; shrimp, mussels, vongole, cod and more. Pasta was al dente. For a main dish we had pork scaloppine and saltimbocca. Meat was tender, while the sauces had decent taste, but slightly lumpy. There is also a set lunch menu that is very good value for money! Not a big selection of wine on offer (just a red, white and rosé). All in all, if you just want to wind down and feel some genuine warmth while out and about in the more touristy parts of Palma old town, this is the place to do it. The food is also quite comforting!

When we first arrived, we asked for a table for 12, and were told it wasn't possible--even though the restaurant was half empty. We even offered to split into two tables of 6, but were still turned away. We tried again by having our Spanish speaker ask separately, and a different waiter agreed to seat the group. As soon as we all walked in and sat down, the same staff member who had denied us became visibly upset and, in a very sassy tone, said "those are the same 12." She then told us we had to sit in the back if we wanted to stay together, so we moved. Moments later, she changed her mind again, insisting that because we had a baby, part of the group would still need to sit separately. At that point, it was clear they simply didn't want our service, no matter how flexible we tried to be. After being shuffled around and treated so rudely, we decided to leave. Extremely disappointing and, frankly, felt discriminatory. Families and larger groups should be aware before coming here.

Our late lunch comprised the tapas, we didn't try main course this time even though I saw grilled dorada with salad at the next table and it looked excellent. Rating for tapas: (1) tuna tartare with wasabi alioli- super fresh, flavorful, beautifully decorated, quite a large portion (5/5), (2) Spanish jamon with melon - one can't go wrong with this dish in Spain as it's secret is Ingredients, perfect sweetness for juicy melon with thin slices of flavorful Jamon (5/5), (3) fried calamari - the best I have tried so far in Mallorca, super fresh, deep fried in a very thin coat that doesn't overwhelm the sweetness of calamari (5/5), and (4) small fried fish - very fresh but had a taste of boiled fish that then was deeper into a drier just for a second, I think I was expecting it to be crisp (4/5). Bread and olives were great, as always in Spain. We would like to come back for a dinner to try other dishes.
