Well, it was a good thing we did, since we didn't get to go back for afternoon tea... Just as the name suggests, it is located right by the canal. It was very picturesque, peaceful and relaxing. They also have seating upstairs, and had histories on the canal, with photos posted all around the wall. Their cakes looked amazing, but I decided not to order any dessert on this day. Yes I know, a big mistake! Our friend ordered Heavenly Hot Chocolate, and it looked so pretty! We went with Teashop House Blend Tea, and Earl Grey. The young boy who brought the teas (I hear this is a family-run business) was trying to very careful not to mix them up. But the funny thing was, he totally mixed the tea up! LOL. We didn't realize until half way through... I thought the House Blend tea tasted so much like Earl Grey. For lunch, we had Ham, Cheese & Chutney Sandwich and Eggs Benedict. They were both tasty, nice portion, and filling. Our friend went with something healthier, and ordered one of their vegan sandwiches. It is nice to have that option if you want or need vegan dish. We had a nice quick lunch here. It was adorable and cozy. The food was good, not amazing, but good. I think the sweets might be better than the actual food...I will never know, unless I go back! Lesson learned: don't never expect your plan to go just the way you planned them...and have your dessert first!

Mind you I still haven't been inside the Millennium Seedbank which houses a collection of seeds from around the world!! Our current fave is feeding the birds at the Himalayan Glade lookout. We take some seeds, put them on the fence posts and then sit on the bench admiring the tits, finches, robins and pheasants having a feeding frenzy. Wakehurst is part of Kew and the National Trust. My best tip is to become a NT member or buy an annual pass to Wakehurst for £20 - a single admission is £10 so you only have to go twice to make it worthwhile. There is a large shop, small garden centre and cafe at the entrance and a further cafe/restaurant approx. 1km from the entrance adjacent to the Manor. Although the food & drinks are not that cheap they do have Green & Blacks hot chocolate and choc. cornflake cakes which are irresistable and in the summer the sliding/folding doors open up to enhance this modern piece of architecture. The gardens are extensive with a plethora of different themes and some very large trees - one of which is lit up at Xmas and provides the backdrop for a fantastic carol singing event for all the family. There are two large ponds at the bottom of the hill where the muddy ducks are very entertaining in the bread feeding department - another toddler favourite. Overall, Wakehurst is great for all ages and is a great expanse for young children where the gardens themsleves are the play areas. It is also great for pushing the pram around as an escape from the house. You'll never get bored discovering the place and one day I'll make it to the Seedbank.

The shop is lovely and the plants in the garden centre are gorgeous. The Millenium Seed bank is fantastic, i learnt lots in there, and they are doing a fantastic job. The seed bank is really good for children as there are touch screen computers which you can use to find out more about the seed bank.

The cooking area is open plan so customers see that the food is prepared in a clean environment. The menu is vey full which ranges from a cooked breakfast to a full roast dinner at very competetive prices. They also offer a service where you can telephone your order through and collect it if you don't have time to sit and eat in. All in all I think the cafe offers a good service and the food is excellent.

There were forgotten items on our breakfast and again the waitress apologised she bought over the items over but had to ask three times for toast and that came halfway through eating. The so called waitress said she'd alter the bill but didn't when we payed so they gave us two cans of coke. The waitress seemed apologetic but clearly wasn't!!! They had Deliveroo orders to take and a full cafe to attend to and as two other customers entered they saw the place was busy they went to leave, the chef/cook went out after them and bought them back in to seat them up front, however this chef/cook was wearing gloves at the time he touched the door handle and went straight back into the kitchen area I think that's disgusting. We won't be returning ever!!! Very unprofessional
