Loved this little whole in the wall. I was so comfortable here and the decor and drinks are amazing.read more

I'm not sure how I haven't reviewed this place yet?…read more I love it in here, they have really gone all out with the decor, they have old British Empire maps on the walls, the menus, food and drinks are all colonial inspired, a lot of thought and care has gone in to the smaller details. They are open in the mornings for tea, coffee, Masala Chai and breakfast foods, they do a great range of pastries and cakes, paninis etc... If you go in the evening I recommend the Masala Chai Martini, it's happiness in a martini glass, their wine selection is a little lacking and the drinks are a little on the expensive side, but you are definitely paying for the experience and atmosphere. They also serve food in the evening you have to order at the Cardamon Club a few doors down and it's cash only. You can book the areas at the back and you can even buy a bottle of spirit at the bar and they'll make you drinks with it all night, perfect for a night out with your friends. Only a couple of things prevent it being 5 stars, it's very small so it's gets very cramped very quickly, on Saturday when we went they obviously had a small party in the back area, and diners in the front so it meant lots of people were kind of hovering/sitting at the bar. The bar staff are friendly and welcoming, although one particularly barman Saturday night was clearly showing off a little for some customers, which meant at one point he accidentally splashed gin up my neck, when making a cocktail. Then a few minutes later he shattered a bottle of tonic when he 'couldn't find' the bottle opener (which was nearby) and tried to open the tonic with a cocktail shaker, considering how busy the bar area was, it seemed a little stupid. No one begrudges anyone having fun at work (really I don't) but it just seemed stupid to me. Overall awesome place, definitely need to go back slightly earlier in the night, perhaps order some food and more guarantee of a table to sit at, looking forward to my next visit and more Masala Chai Martini's.

If you're reading this, then you've most likely survived the "apocalypse." Well done…read more I am happy to say that, although I liked this place when it was it was take-away only, I rather love it now that we're allowed to come in and stay awhile. The interior is cozy and quaint; it doesn't hold an enormous amount of people, but I've never seen it completely full, either, so chances are you'd be able to snag a seat here, no problem. They also have a few tables and chairs outside, if that's your preference. During the lockdown, I fell in love with their toasties, (the avocado and halloumi toastie is amazeballs), but now that their full menu is back on, I had to rave some more about the sheer deliciousness of it all. While a bit more expensive than the smaller toasties, some of their more decadent options are definitely worth the price. My top 2 (thus far), are the Capuchin and Grivet. The Capuchin is a hefty portion of sweet potato hash topped with a perfectly-balanced mix of chorizo, seedless jalapeños, pomegranate seeds, a poached egg, and a side of sweet chili chutney. It may sound weird, but trust me it works. Crispy, sweet, salty, spicy... a symphony of flavors in your mouth. The Grivet is a smaller- yet no less filling- dish in the form of a breakfast sandwich filled with a generous serving of thick-cut bacon, poached egg, sweet chili chutney, finished with a slathering of creamy avocado, all wedged in between a soft brioche bun. It's a breakfast of champions, any time of the day. The rest of their menu still includes the old favorites, like pancakes & waffles, smoothies & cold-pressed juices, full breakfast plates, toasties, and of course, coffee & tea. And really, the service couldn't be better. It's the perfect neighborhood joint.

Inside instead the story was totally different and it seemed to us as if we had gone thorough a secret door to a buzzing, warm and cosy coffee hive full of people enjoying their weekend breakfast. The staff are quite friendly and welcoming but most of all the coffee is super smooth and pleasant. My daughter enjoyed a babyccino, a strawberry juice and a slice of lemon cake - which, by the way, she ate all even if we were just coming back from a birthday party. This is a place where I'll now go back to every time we'll be around Tooting!

I am clearly an advocate of the lunch option - delicious cheese toasties and spot-on flat whites. Could it be any better?! Nestled inside the little labyrinth that is Broadway Market in Tooting, there is Pedal Back Cafe, a small bike workshop that also does decent coffee and lovely melts, as they call the toasts. I never went there to get a bike done, but I have been there over lunch. Unfortunately, Pedal Back Cafe is a bit too far away from where I work to go there more regularly, but every now and then, I hop on the tube and get off at Tooting Broadway station. It's just a short walk from the station, and without any doubt worth the effort. Service is down-to-earth and very friendly, and they do really good coffee. I am also a big fan of the cheese melt, made with proper, dark, savoury bread. If you have a sweet tooth, you will also find some tasty treats - my favourites are perhaps the macarons. Pedal Back Cafe is a hidden gem. Once you have discovered it, you will keep coming back. The only downside: you better be able to tolerate the market stall selling fish just a few meters away.
