Thanks for Elite Yelp giving me two free tickets to the Legally Blonde musical show~ My first time going to Cabrillo Music Theater. There is a parking structure, $8. Some people park the car at the Clam Jumper plaza (FREE) and walk up to the theater. The building is well maintained & very clean. Next month, they are doing renovation in the lobby, it is going to look even better when it is completed. 3 windows at the Box Office. It takes me about 10 minutes to get my tickets from the Will Call windows. The theater is not too small. Sound system is excellent! The ushers are super friendly. The Legally Blonde musical is phenomenal~ All the performers are very talented with great voice. The music is very cheerful. The story is very funny. What a great show~ The story is very inspiring for the children!! It is a perfect show for the family. read more

Legally Blonde, The Musical... OH MY GOSH! OH MY GOSH! First, a HUGE thanks to Brittany A. & Genna U. for organizing this YEE (yelp Elite Event) so close to home and inviting us to enjoy this unexpectedly wonderful opening night performance! A pleasant surprise was the complimentary tickets... LOVE being on the yelp Elite squad! Just for clarification, the Cabrillo Music Theatre is the musical production company that performs at the Fred Kavli Theatre of Performing Arts, at the Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza. Easy parking access. We arrived at 7:40pm with a daunting line at the will call/ ticket booth, but the line moved quickly and we were still able to hit the restrooms before settling down in our seats to enjoy the show. The Kavli Theatre is a modern structure that is even more beautiful @ night. Staff is friendly and VERY helpful. Auditorium is a good size, seating about 1800 people. Well spaced, as it wasn't difficult to pass through the rows. I didn't kick or knock knees with anyone to get to our seats. We sat in the orchestra section, Row P, and could easily see all the facial expressions of the performers. Not stuffy at all in the large hall during the performance and never heard a glitch in the sound system. Most men were casually dressed, as it was rare to see a suit & tie (I was out of place sportin' the bow tie), but lots of ladies looking elegant in their dresses and heels. As far as the show, Legally Blonde, the Musical, was SO ENTERTAINING! This movie adaptation was FUNNY, with captivating voices & performances, and the music was engaging. I enjoyed the movie, and this musical production stayed true to the film, yet, enhanced the story of Elle Woods... brought it to another level! OH MY GOSH! Bravo Cabrillo Music Theatre... BRAVO! Running a little late, I sent my friend to pick up our tickets at will call in advance and met her over at Umami Burger for dinner before the show. She had no problems picking up our tickets and making everything happen on time! The show was so much fun and so high energy; we got to experience it on opening night! Really high energy performers, lots of humor and awesome dancing! During intermission, we gathered outside, overlooking the fountain. The venue is clean, and the staff is very professional and friendly. I have been to this theater before and think that it perfect! There is not a bad seat in the house. read more

Secretly, I was very excited to go to the opening night of Legally Blonde. I joked to my boyfriend about going blonde in preparation for the musical and let me just say that after the musical, I felt more desire to want to go blonde. But really, no, I'm still a raven head. Upon hearing the first song, I thought to myself, WHAT DID I GET MYSELF INTO?? The super chirpy Delta Nu girls and blaring sounds of "Omigod Omigod you guys" literally scared me out of my seat. But later, I was absolutely in love with this production. Super cute and does the movie justice and has its own unique additions (like wtf Ireland?). Although, now I can't hear "oh my god" the same way ever again.. But yes, loved the group's rendition of Legally Blonde! In fact, I am currently listening to the musical soundtrack right now and thought that the Cabrillo Music Theatre did a better job (no offense, Broadway). But Emma was just absolutely perfect as Elle and is a UCLA Bruin herself (Go Bruins!). The crew were all amazing in their roles and I honestly could not stifle my laughs each time the Delta Nu sorority girls made an appearance. Would definitely watch the musical again if I could. read more

Oh this was incredibly fun! Brittany B, thank you for a terrific experience. I have actually been to this theater many times and enjoyed every show. They are always professional, finely tuned in terms of choreography and uplifting. I love "Legally Blonde" - it was super show, high in silliness factor and a lot of positive fun! They did a great job translating the movie into performance and the dance was just comic pleasure. The acting, direction and voices were terrific. If I had one thing I might suggest to the Theater it would be to check audio. The sounds are tinny and landing on too many flat dead surfaces. I live with an audio engineer and it was very apparent where the issues were, the audio decisions did no favors to the cast, and this critique is not specific to this performance, I have noted it in the past. Apart from the audio issues in this theater, the performances are really terrific! Simply amazing shows! Spectacular talent, lovely set design and just a lovely theatre experience for adults and children alike. We have seen Peter Pan, Beauty and the Beast, and Shrek so far and we can't wait to see all the future shows as well. Truly, Broadway-level performances, but without having to travel to New York! Yay! Thanks Brittany B. and Elite Yelp for the complimentary tickets to the opening night of Legally Blond the Musica! The musical was absolutely amazing: entertaining, fun, great dance numbers, amazing performers, and heartfelt all at the same time. My plus one was quite skeptical and hesitant initially, but ended up loving the musical. (I'm sure he did) This was our first time at the Cabrillo Music Theatre. The theatre was a great size, not too large and very intimate. Most of us from Yelp were seated in row P I believe, and from there we were still able to see the expressions on the actors faces and sound-wise, the acoustics were great. The theatre staff were all very friendly and during intermission we were all able to go outside and mingle in front of the beautiful fountain. To park in the immediate parking lot, the cost was $8. In terms of will call, eventhough the line was long, the staff worked very efficiently and got us our tickets quite quickly. I'm really happy to have spent my friday night with the other yelp elite enjoying this great musical. Catch it while you can, it a definitely fun act that I personally think might not be too kid friendly given that certain jokes and references were a bit yea.. but all in all, if they dont notice, then a family event can be had. read more

Cabrillo Music Theatre is beautiful inside and out! Outside, there are restaurants where you can sit and eat; a mall right next door so you can shop; a beautiful (shooting) water fountain that is even more beautiful at night when the lights are lit. The inside is very comfortable. This theater is the first theater that allowed food inside. I was starving and was secretly thrilled that I wasn't being mad-dogged or reprimanded for snacking on some cut fruit that I brought in. People came in with drinks and everything. My best friend and I watched Legally Blonde the musical here (free tickets from Yelp!!!) and it was absolutely a delight. Super entertaining. Very funny. Great performers. Excellent acting + singing. If Thousand Oaks wasn't so far away, I'd confidently state that I'd be back. read more

Wow, what a talented group! Saw them do a production of Legally Blonde and was pleasantly surprised. I had previously seen the same show in Broadway and this rendition was almost on par - obviously the set design couldn't fully compete with the budgets of Broadway, but the talent was certainly there. I would see them again! One thing I will say that completely threw me for a loop was that "Cabrillo Music Theatre" was the LOCATION I was told to go to, so I was looking for a physical building with this theater's name on it. It turns out, it was within a building whose theater is a different name. I didn't realize before attending that this was the name of the troop. I wish it had been better organized and more clearly explained before hand, but the actual show was great, as were the performers. Just make sure you know where you're going! read more

We attended the July 19th performance of Legally Blonde, The Musical. The quality of the performance, comfortable seating, and polite volunteer staff all made for a great evening. LIKE OH MY GOD YOU GUYS! Let me start off by thanking Brittany B. for providing two orchestra tickets with an amazing view on opening night. My girlfriend thanks you too! This was my second time to the Civics Arts Center but my first time catching a Cabrillo Music Theatre production. I was blown away by every aspect of the show. All the actors were great, and with the entire show being extremely entertaining, it's hard to pick a favorite act or performer. I do, however, have to admit Bruiser stole my heart and I was so happy to hear he is a rescue. If you enjoy musicals then you must see this show. If you think you are too manly to enjoy a musical then think again because I was on the edge of my seat in laughter and didn't want the show to end. Plus they serve beer, so you will keep your man card if you chug a few beers in the lobby. We will surely be attending another Cabrillo Music Theatre performance in the near future! Cheers read more

Fun venue, nice big theater that puts on professional shows, but feels like a little community theater, complete with community announcements before the show. As they announced, lots of people get their start here and go on to bigger things. Legally Blonde here was amazing, the cast was mostly very very good, and I can't imagine it being much better. read more

It's been awhile since I've been to the Civic Arts Center in Thousand Oaks, but thanks to Yelp I was able to see the great Cabrillo Music Theater perform Legally Blonde. I was definitely impressed by the quality of the performances. The singing was quite good and the cast had great comedic timing. Legally Blonde is a high-energy comedic musical so it's lots of fun to watch. I was really impressed with the outreach Cabrillo Music Theater does. They are supporting animal rescues with the performance of Legally Blonde since LB features Elle's well-trained chihuahua. Great way to spend the evening! read more

Pretty Nice Theatre....came here to see a friend in Damn Yankees (great show btw) and there wasn't a bad seat in the house. There's parking, and after a short walk your there. No matter where you sit your view is great and the acoustics are nice for the ear as well. If there's a show you want to see and it's playing here you might want to check it out. read more

Thanks to Brittany B. for including me in this Yelp Elite Event at the Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza. The Cabrillo Music Theatre presented Legally Blonde at the Fred Kavli Theatre last night. We arrived early and parked on level three (the same level as the box office). Back into parking species for an easy exit. We picked up our tickets easily at will call and went across the street to Mastro's for dinner before the show. Our seats were fantastic! The show was wonderful and closely followed the original screenplay. Musical numbers were upbeat and funny and star Emma Degerstedt outdid her self as Elle Woods. Sets were beautiful. YAY!! Thank you Yelp and Brittany B for the tickets! The musical was awesome there is no bad seat in the house! All the performers were so talented! The 2nd half of the show was definitely much better than the first half but it was still all around very good! They do such a great job performing on stage! The only annoying part was definitely when they had to talk about how you should donate to their foundation etc which is understandable since they want to make money but after you get through the whole speech everything else is great! There is plenty of parking and many ushers to guide you to your seat! I've been here many times and love it every time! Thanks again! :] read more

This was my first visit to Cabrillo Music Theatre and was impressed that I can see Broadway "at my backdoor." Away from the hustle and bustle of Pantages and Ahmanson in DTLA, Cabrillo is a great alternative to see a show not too far away for Valley residents. Before this experience I thought there wasn't any reason to visit TO. I now can say I will definitely have this theatre on my radar for musical theater experiences in Los Angeles. I came to the Legally Blonde, The Musical premiere through Yelp and had a really great time. I had never been out to Thousand Oaks before and thought the Cabrillo Music Theatre was a cute venue. The staff was extremely pleasant and friendly from the moment we go there to the moment we left. I had seen the movie in snippets over the last few years (I swear this movie is a drug to most women in their 20s and 30s) so I knew the basic story line by the time I saw the play. But the play was so well done you could appreciate without knowing the movie. I have to say, for the first 15 minutes I was having to try and force the images of the movie cast out of my head, but the theater cast did such a good job that I became engrossed in their performing and it truly became their version. The lead actress was phenomenal and the sorority sisters were nonstop laughs throughout the play. I think its a great venue to see off Broadway plays. Solid plays with a solid cast! read more

No complaints there. The bartender there was great as well. I wasn't a big fan of the show itself, but that's a whole other story. I guess I'm not a musical lover after all. This review is for their production of A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum. The production values were as good as Broadway. They have a live orchestra hidden onstage, supporting an excellent cast. The set was charming and inventive. Inventive also describes the direction. The total effect is a delightful theatre experience. The lead actor was phenomenal. His ability to play with the audience and ad lib made this production outstanding. He (with the director) freely added modern pop culture references. His dying scene alone is worth the price of admission. Like the Genie character in Aladdin, he jumped from one reference to another in what seemed to be stream-of-conciousness but was probably rehearsed. He had a knack of playing every beat as if it were the first time, so it didn't matter whether scripted, rehearsed schtick or ad lib, it all seemed fresh and fun. It made for a wonderful afternoon of theatre. Get your tickets while you can. Highly recommended. read more

My wife and I saw the Dress Rehersal of Memphis last night. The music was excellent, the dancing was outstanding. Todd Adamson's performance of Huey Calhoon connected with the audience and his vocals were strong. Lakeisha Rene played Felicia Farrell and her voice was powerful and had great range. The dancing was top notch and the music made you want to get out your seat and dance. We highly recommend seeing this show while it is in Thousand Oaks. read more

The venue was great and we paid for parking in the structure which was $8. We did get there just a it early and there was no line at that time at the ticket office. This is the first time since I been to a musical in over 15 years. I was very excited to watch this musical. The production was great, the cast was awesome and the show was 2 thumbs up. I would have not thought about coming to watch this musical if it had not been for the complimentary tickets. Definitely will try to watch future shows and if you have not seen shows at this theater, I would recommend going here and watching a musical show. After this production is done in couple weeks, they will be doing renovation in the lobby. read more

Went to see West Side Story this weekend. I have seen at least 3 different stage versions before. This was absolutely the best I have ever seen! Great cast, Great voices, Great choreography. Wonderful pit orchestra. The director and choreographer added a children's chorus and dance to "Somewhere." Very powerful, and did not leave a dry eye in the house. If you see one musical theater stage production this summer, make it West Side Story at the Kavli Theater! read more

Saw Matilda last night (3/28). In one word, it was terrible. Sound system is totally inadequate. Could not understand most of the dialogue or songs. Play was very dark. There were several children sitting with their parents near us. The script talked about the teacher's early death of her mother and her father's suicide. Child torture by school's headmistress. What? Very inappropriate. Especially, with so many children in attendance. And, the "happy ending" was about Matilda's family giving her away to her teacher because they "didn't have room" for her. Very disappointed. Don't see it. read more

This location is so beautiful! I love the layout of the civic center and the dining area right next door. I want to thank Yelp and Brittany for putting this together. I had a wonderful time, they put together a great show, I was entertained the entire time and caught my self really getting into it. OH and that UPS Delivery man :) Lets not forget about him. Very spacious Cabrillo Theater and a few snack choices during intermission. Parking was 8 dollars but you can also park in the little center next door, which is what most people seemed to do. Great musical, props to the lead woman playing Ellen she did a great job, and I wish them success for the rest of their show days. read more

I have yet to be impressed by a production at this theatre. The venue itself is beautiful and there is not a bad seat in the house. It is next door to some great restaurants making an evening of dinner and the theatre very easy. Yes, they do offer some well known, fun show choices. But, for the ticket prices they charge I expect higher quality shows and performances. The live orchestra/band is always wonderful but the actual productions never seem to be well put together. I have seen much better shows at local high schools. Just saw Grease there this past weekend and was terribly disappointed. The cast seemed very uninspired and the choreography was extremely lacking. read more

Just watched the musical Annie yesterday at CMT. I was impressed by the venue and its production. CMT doesn't host traveling shows--all their shows are put up by the locals in the community. Annie was awesome. I would definitely go back when there's another production of my interest! read more

unfortunately i have to be honest and can't leave a glowing review such as the ones left no doubt by family, friends and members of the casts. if you're lucky you will get 2 or 3 average cast members in any given show. just like you would at any local high school. expect to get introductions before the shows by local real estate agents and such who will advertise their goods. you can tell a good theater company if they actually SHOW you videos of their shows on their websites! i found videos only on youtube and TAKE NOTE; they never let you hear the real sound of the performers. they always have clips of them supported by the broadway cast album!!! local community theaters need support but they need to be honest about who they are within the community. they are absolutely NOT "broadway in your backyard". for myself, i've seen better high school productions. read more

Ok your probably wondering why I gave cabrillo 2 stars. Everyone knows they are the best at putting on a show in all of ventura county but there audition system? Me thinks not. So I have audition for numerous shows and have gotten the main role in almost all of them. I have been dancing for five years, singing for eight, and acting for four. I get to the audition for mary poppins. Everything seems normal, until this one girl. Lets just call her amy, walks in and I immediately know I can't get the role because here in thousand oaks if you get a role one place and you are not even good you will get a role anywhere in thousand oaks. The system is messed up. first of all this girl sings like a chicken that is dying, second her acting skill are those of a two year old, and third she dances like a donkey that got its legs cut off. In this buisness expect for everything to be rigged. Long story short some other girl got the role which somehow makes me feel better but still sucks. read more
