Surfing the wave in the raft

An amazing experience if you ever visit Gatlinburg. My family booked this excursion after not being able to use our Groupon for another company which I won't name. I'm glad things didn't work out with that other company and we ended up with 5 Rivers. We did the upper pigeon river trip. Our tour guide Derek appeared young at first glance but was very nice and was a safe guide for our rafting experience. We had an awesome time. I would definitely recommend this to anyone interested.

That's Cole! The best guide EVER!

Best company to go with especially if you're a first timer at White Water Rafting! I was super nervous and really freaked out (I'm just a worrier) lol but we were under the care of the nicest guide ever, Cole! Cole made sure we were safe, he made jokes and he was super knowledgeable and kind! He knew I was nervous, heck I couldn't stop saying it but by the end of the trip I was ready to go again! We all put our trust in Cole and he didn't disappoint! Heidi (I asked for his moms name, lol) you raised a well mannered young man! Congrats! Chuck (owner of the company) you should be proud in having wonderful ppl like Cole represent your company! Thank you 5 Rivers Adventure for making this experience a great one! Hey Chuck, I suggested to Cole that all the guides should wear go pros and record the adventure from the back heck I bought the photos I would've loved to purchase a video if one existed. I'm sure many others would agree! Think about it! More revenue for you all! There were other companies out there (yellow floats)and trust me when I tell you they were not having fun at all. Everyone on board was so serious they looked miserable.

This is going to be a long post so...grab a seat and some popcorn, sit back and relax while you enjoy the ride! I have been white water rafting since I was 8 years old or so. I'm pretty river savey. Decided to go I white water rafting in Costa Rica 2 yrs ago but almost died, seriously. This was a very horrific experience for me as one could imagine. A few years back, we came to 5 Rivers Adventure and just loved it. I had not gone rafting since my trip to Costa Rica b/c of PTSD. I couldn't go last year, I was just too affraid. This year I decided to put on my big girl panties and suck it up! Hell, I'm not getting any younger. So, I called and told the lady I wanted Chuck, whom we went with years prior and briefed the lady on the phone with the reason why. I knew he would take good care of me and my son. (Who was terrified b/c of my experience with almost dying). Chuck introduced himself to me, then recognized me and said I was in good hands. He had me sit in the back with him, which was never my norm I prefer the front but...This was a great way for me to get my feet wet. He briefed our team on how to run the rapids and off we went. He made sure I remained in the raft the entire trip! We went through several class 3 and 4's, stopped at a swimming hole and just had a great time. This trip has helped me become a lover of the river again and will continue to come here year after year! This company is a smaller one and I know there are many other choices to raft in TN, but if you want that personal touch and not to be hearded through the river like cattle, then this is the place to go!

Me, my baby sister, & little brother. This is before we started but where your ride.

We weren't planning on white water rafting while in town. We were searching for zip lining & came across this place that offered both zip lining & rafting. Best idea ever! It was about 5 miles long, they let us get out of the raft & float, jump off a rock, and surf. Fun & informative staff as well! We had a comedian on the bus whose jokes were entertaining. What do you call a fish without eye's? I'll be honest, I'm the college graduate in the family and had to ask the didn't go to college baby sister to explain the joke. ‍ Adam was our tour guide and did an awesome job! When he raised his hand on the bus when asked who was nervous, I thought he was kidding. Until we were on the river & he told us we were his 1st group. He had just finished his month training. We passed a lot of rafting companies on the way the way from Cosby as well as when we drove through the 1 intersection of Hartford. I wouldn't pick any other company after going with these guys. Just do everyone else a favor and be on time. It's not fun waiting around in the sun for an extra 10-15 minutes to get started because other groups are late for their scheduled time.

Such a great experience rafting with Bekah. We went as a group of six and none of us had ever been white water rafting before but Bekah made us feel comfortable. She was really knowledgeable about the river and we all learned so much. We had a blast and all the other employees we dealt with were also awesome! I highly recommend 5 Rivers Adventures!!

    1st time rafting!

Raft trip number one was for our sons birthday. We had never been rafting before and Crystal was the perfect guide! Just enough to leave us wanting more! Today we went back for the high adventure! Travis was amazing! Best family experience! Love 5 Rivers and we will definitely be back!

We had an AMAZING time!! We got Travis as our guide and he MADE our trip! We was funny and knowledgeable. He kept the adventure exciting for our entire group. Travis went the extra mile to make sure our three daughters truly had an incredible first time white water raft and experience. If you're going to book a rafting trip in Hartford make sure it's through 5 River adventures and ask for Travis, you won't regret it! Travis made us all feel like we were on an extreme adventure yet somehow made us feel completely safe as well!! THANK YOU TRAVIS and 5 River Adventures!

This course is around an hour float down the river with a few class II rapid sections. For most adults, it should be easy going as long as you know how to maneuver a tube or raft. For young kids, I'd probably tether the child's tube to yours. Our two kids, 7 and 9, did fine. But, we had to make sure they rode the tubes correctly. Cowboy Tubin's prices are less than competitors by $5/pp and the run is slightly longer. They have very clean indoor changing rooms and bathrooms. Much nicer than some other places. Also, very friendly staff.

The restrooms and changing rooms were spotless which is always a major plus in my book. Sometimes it's the simple thing and this one thing sold me on this company. The lady that we signed in with gave us a rundown of the river, what to expect, what to wear and what not to. She mentioned my hat and suggested not wearing it (which I agreed) then our sunglasses. What set her apart was the fact that she pointed out they sell sunglass retainers but if we didn't want to buy them they could tie some twine on them so we wouldn't lose them. That's rare, she had an opportunity to upsell us but didn't. Simply offered them then gave us a free option as well. As simple as it was, it was appreciated.

The shop has a lot to offer in regard to things that you may want/need for your trip such as necklaces to attach your shades to, dry bags, sunglasses, etc. They employ a lot of young people/teenagers, and those individuals helped us to get our life jackets, tubes, safety training and launching us into the river. It's a self-guided tour. No staff members accompany you, but they tell you to stay left at the fork and if you go under the overpass, you've gone too far. With this being our first tubing experience, we were a bit nervous. We ordered the XL tubes (unnecessary) as well as the cooler tube (also unnecessary). The majority of the route is shaded from the sun, and I believe I would've been okay taking one full reusable water bottle. We rarely accessed our cooler and after floating in the river, we didn't really want to snack...even with the use of hand sanitizer. We saw horses, a beaver and a turtle during our float. The water level seemed to be a bit low, with us needing to lift our bottoms to avoid contact with rocks. It was slow-moving and relaxing, but I'd love to return and experience it when the water level is a bit higher. At the end, we loaded onto a waiting shuttle bus and went back to base. Their changing rooms and bathrooms were clean and very convenient. The only thing that could've made them better were showers! We changed out of our wet swimsuits/trunks and freshened up as best as we could. We spoke with the owner briefly, who told us how her sons (the best in the world, she says) built that place for her. Upstairs are 3 apartment units. She was really nice. I also overheard her praising her team for the good work they'd been doing this season, and her hopes that the weather and crowds continues as they have for the remainder (I was in the restroom). I would definitely suggest this as a reprieve from the Summer heat if visiting the area any time soon!

Unfortunately, we couldn't do the second float because there was an accident that had the road completely blocked for hours. The first float took us about 2 hours, which felt like a pretty good amount of time on the water. Depending on the water level, you may have to hop out of your tube in a few spots and walk it over some rocks because parts of the river can get pretty shallow. It all depends on how high or low the water is that day. Also, make sure you use the bathroom before you start and don't forget sunscreen. There are a lot of beautiful houses along the river, but remember to stay off private property. Overall, it was a fun time and I'd definitely come back again.

On the 10 minute ride some of the guides performed fun comedic routines which kept us from thinking about how hot we were on a bus with no AC ( except open windows), decked out in life jackets and helmets while holding our paddles upright. :-) We got paired with a river rafting guide named Brantley.
